PSP Go revealed in June issue of Qore [update]
Update: A video from the June issue of Qore is now available on YouTube (and after the jump). In the video, Qore host Veronica Belmont discusses the new PSP Go handheld with Sony's John Koller who mentions the handheld (which features 16GB of internal storage, a memory slot for expandable memory and bluetooth) will not replace the current PSP-3000 -- they will coexist.
According to Koller, new titles will be revealed for the platform at E3, specifically: a new Metal Gear Solidand Jak & Daxter. Also, expect Sony's E3 briefing to mention Jak & Daxter PSP (announced previously) and Gran Turismo PSP -- which has been known since the birth of the platform. Get those bingo cards out, kids!
Original Article: According to images grabbed by the Gaming Console Network, PS3's virtual magazine (Qore) made its latest issue available early and revealed the (long-rumored) PSP revision. As rumors and mockups theorized, the PSP Go in the images features no UMD drive and a sliding screen. It also features a single (and poorly positioned) analog stick. Adding fuel to the fire, PlayStation LifeStyle has posted an image it states is of the actual retail packaging for the soon-to-be announced handheld iteration -- and both designs match.
As we have not been able to spot the images on Qore our self, we're calling this rumor. It appears, with the video, PSP Go is all but confirmed. Only a few days until we find out if the madness is true.

jeff @ May 30th 2009 1:06PM
It looks a lot like that 1up mock up.
Scuffles @ May 30th 2009 1:19PM
Wow .... just Wow ..... that thing is funny and I'm not talking funny haha I'm talking funny uhoh
Seriously if thats not a joke its time to do some culling down at sony ~.~
Brazen @ May 30th 2009 1:32PM
It reminds me off those 20 quid knockoff's of actual products...
CH3BURASHKA @ May 30th 2009 1:34PM
I second that. What's with the 'chrome' edges and it looks like it's made of cheap plastic. Hopefully this is NOT the real deal.
Echnaton @ May 30th 2009 2:34PM
Oh man, it's just ugly ... why why why ... sony could have done a better job ... i know!
Well, at least apple will be happy about that ... (i don't like the iphone, but i'd prefer to buy one instead of that ugly psp go ...)
Asim Fareed @ May 30th 2009 2:39PM
Hold on, why is this called the PSP Go? The portable go?
What does that make the non Go PSP? Sony's latest hook on a portable console is a new version that's uh, more portabler?
I was hoping for a slick new PSP with better linking to my PS3, but this is just epic fail...
HAAS599 @ May 30th 2009 4:47PM
Not like its the sexiest gadget ever, but how is it ugly?? Its just a big screen with 4 holes on either side. I dont see how this is so ugly. The design looks like it will be more comfortable to hold and play for longer periods of time. I like all the new features too. Hopefully you can still do video output to an HDTV and with bluetooth you can connect a DS3 and play game with a regular controller if you want.
ridgecity @ May 30th 2009 5:12PM
My god, they ripped off one of the chinese knockoff PSPs! just missing a couple stuff and looks the same:

I wonder if it comes with a nes emulator...
aristokrat @ May 30th 2009 5:48PM
Actually guys, I'd say that it was definitely inspired by the design of the Sony Mylo, which I thought we heard a rumor about before. Check it out, they're both incredibly similar.
Alex @ May 30th 2009 6:45PM
Exactly what I thought. Looks like some of those hideous phones on the market.
Is this real? Seriously? Look at it for God's sake.
Carlos @ May 30th 2009 7:21PM
so where the f@ck is the second analog
that thing aint gonna sell good if it dont have a second analog stick
Matt @ May 30th 2009 11:27PM
Wow, imagine that.
The first comment summed up what I feel.
BananaBoat @ May 30th 2009 11:49PM
I can't believe that they went with the slider approach, and somehow still managed to make it look hideous. Remember that mock up with the clean lines, and the almost apple-esque design? It's almost as if they copied that, rounded the edges, and made it look like an awful knock off of some greater product.
Good on them for ditching UMD, but also ditching regular memory stick (he said memory stick micro, correct?) seems like a dick move when the entire PSP fanbase has regular memory sticks already. Also, how would I get the games I already own over to the new model PSP, if it doesn't have a UMD slot? Am I supposed to buy an entire new library of games to play on the thing? I won't, so that begs the question of "who is this for?" with the answer seemingly being someone that has never owned a PSP before, but that really wants one. Hopefully for Sony, that market actually exists.
Chente916 @ May 31st 2009 9:11AM
why doesn't the first post on this subject not mention the lack of a second analog stick? who gives a shit about how ugly it is... just because something is pretty, shiny and black, you must buy it? fuck that... function over fashion is the way to go. if this is the real psp go, i'm never going to by another sony product. they really have a hard time listening to the customer. how hard is it to slap another analog stick on there? really sony? suck it.
Chente916 @ May 31st 2009 9:15AM
/edit
why doesn't the first post on this subject mention the lack of.....
phinnvr6 @ May 31st 2009 2:36PM
Yea I'd much rather have the better looking current PSP that is now on sale at most places for $120 than this dumb thing. 16GB of flash memory does sound nice but the screen is even smaller.
Pyrokindfullflame @ Jun 1st 2009 11:59PM
IF they do make the psp go? wouldn't that mean it has to be (ds) toucch screen?
Captain Planet @ Jun 1st 2009 10:56AM
Looks like a T-Mobile Sidekick...pass.
Jampirow @ May 30th 2009 12:33PM
It's true. Don't know if I can post this here, but here is the Youtube Vid of the episode.

Here's he video via Engadget: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-EtvIhFRU
I said this over there but this is either the most elaborate fake ever concocted or Sony has lost their touch. How can they go from the dead sexy PSP and PS3 to this dog turd?
ymmv @ May 30th 2009 12:34PM
What do you mean rumour. I've downloaded the June Quore episode and watched the whole PSP Go video two times already.
Everything was revealed:
43% lighter than previous versions
3.8" screen
Bluetooth
No UMD
You can download games and movies from the PSN
New games:
LittleBigPlanet
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo
(Plus possibly Warhawk and Jak & Daxter)
Hashbrown Hunter @ May 30th 2009 1:10PM
Wait...so you're telling me it's ugly as fuck AND it has a SMALLER screen than the original SKUs?!
I love the PSP, but come on...
Tim Parsons @ May 30th 2009 1:26PM
How'd you manage that? it's not out until Thursday!
ill trooper @ May 30th 2009 1:32PM
Is it WiFi? I mean, it seems like a given but I haven't seen any mention of it. That guy keeps mentioning 'bluetooth' but that's it.
Frank @ May 30th 2009 1:32PM
Did you say a new MGS on PSP? That's the only explanation for the timer then...
Tim Parsons @ May 30th 2009 1:36PM
nevermind lol, that's funny it's listed as COMING SOON but yet you can download it lol,
will see for myself shortly
Comtar @ May 30th 2009 1:48PM
Yeah, but the analog stick placement doesn't look comfortable.... Might still be, just doesn't look it.
dextro @ May 30th 2009 5:16PM
@ill trooper The pictures have the small WiFi light like the current PSPs so take what you want from that
ill trooper @ May 31st 2009 4:21AM
@dextro: Yes, I would say you are correct! Nice (obvious) catch, I didn't really look at the photo too closely, as you can tell.
blackric @ May 30th 2009 12:35PM
+1, its quite ugly looking, like the Nintendo DS-prototype ugly
mr nimblewick @ May 30th 2009 12:42PM
That was my impression as well.
Chris Are @ May 30th 2009 12:48PM
I just don't get how they go from the relatively sexy-looking current PSP to this... It looks like the only thing they improved upon was the lack of UMD.
Kinsey @ May 30th 2009 3:45PM
How is lack of UMD an improvement? The thing is ugly as fuck and the fact I can't play my current games means myself and majority of the earth's population won't buy it. I love the PSP but this is just ass-backwards and a disappointment, but only time will tell if this really is a good product or not.
ArchiGamer @ May 30th 2009 12:35PM
Ugly, ugly, ugly....
Erik Stroud @ May 30th 2009 1:39PM
I know, and I was excited about a new PSP model and then this came. It's might be alright is I can mod it, but without homebrew, I won't be buying a new PSP to give up all my UMDs.
Unplugged @ May 30th 2009 12:38PM
If its real I'm not buying this, and if its fake then the gods have spared us PSP owners from the evil abomination that is this.... thing.
NaeemTHM @ May 30th 2009 12:38PM
I have a pretty big stack of UMD games and a broken PSP...does that mean I'm shit out of luck if I want to "upgrade" to the PSP Go?
I guess my only choice is to purchase a PSP-3000.
mars @ May 30th 2009 12:47PM

DUDE!
There are no words...you just made my weekend. Thanks a ton!
mars @ May 30th 2009 12:52PM
although actually I just realized that is a link to a PSP 2000. Although it does mean you can homebrew on it, which the 3000 can't.
NaeemTHM @ May 30th 2009 12:57PM
That's why I'm excited actually. I wanted a PSP-2000!
mars @ May 30th 2009 1:06PM
haha well then congratulations on your newest purchase. and great job sony for alienating your fanbase! keep it up!
iofthestorm @ May 30th 2009 1:42PM
Haha, I could buy a PSP for less than a DSi... kind of sad. But I'm going to have to buy a DSi anyway since my DS is almost literally falling apart, and I do have my library of DS games, whereas with the PSP I don't have any games stored up so there's no real reason for me to get it. It still is tempting at that price, but I think I'll pass.
Jinsenken @ May 30th 2009 3:05PM
@Mars: PSP 3k has homebrew, just no isos/cso support as of now. People are working on it tho.
And @Naeeem: Make sure that's the older model of the PSP 2k. The newer ones are just like the PSP 3k, so they have no isos/cso support either.
Dragod @ May 30th 2009 3:34PM
If I had the $120 and I knew of a game I'd for sure like on the PSP, I'd totally go after that. Seems like a steal, though it doesn't have any games.
Also, without a PS3, it's just a very nice piece of hardware that didn't live up to its potential. :(
dextro @ May 30th 2009 5:05PM
@Jinsenken Look arround, they do now ;)
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ May 30th 2009 12:39PM
Well yeah it is ugly, but on the plus side it seems to be smaller and more compact than the current psp, and maybe they'll improve the looks until release.
