theyd be retarded to have slim ps3. It would cost more money to make and they're still losing money on the one now

How would it cost more to make? Isn't the point of slimming down to cut costs?

Not necessarily, with better engineering and advancements in technology the size of the internal components of the PS3 has likely been reduced drastically. By releasing a slim PS3 they are likely just downsizing the plastic shell to better suit the smaller insides, actually saving Sony money.(Less money put towards plastic for the shell etc.)

Sorry, but you'd have to be stupid to think that.

Here's the main bulk of the PS3. Internal Power Supply. Blu-ray housing. Cooling.

Slim PS3 would clearly have an external "brick", no cost increase there.

Slimmer Blu-ray housing, saved costs there.

The Dies on the chips have shrunk from their original release, thus less heat, less cooling needed.

To sum up, LIKELY CHEAPER TO MAKE, if not the same price! The shipping weight would be a lot less too in gross, so there's more cost savings.

Knowledge is power!

iluvmyzune my friend you are wrong!!! Everyone else u are right :)

Point and case, when they slimmed down the ps2. Save cost on physical material as cited before as well as cooling the unit.

Very good idea from Sony.

If would cost more money if they were upgrading stuff while making it smaller, right now, they are just catching up with the component market that can make the same stuff smaller.

That how technology works, the only ones that charge more for smaller old technology was the car industry.

They might save on materials cost on a large scale too, not only from less plastics used on the actual system, but less packaging. Also, even if it ended up being the same weight, they would still save on shipping costs if they slimmed down the size of the retail box as well. Could be their way of cutting the MSRP, though I doubt these savings would be enough on their own.

look the logo on the ps3 box is just horrible the P and especially the 3 look like crap. look closely the P is rounded, and the 3 is just plain ugly. it looks exactly at how a counterfeit would look with all these minute but obvious imperfections which distinguish it from the original.

DeepFriedSushi: It's the same exactl style that's on the PSP box though, and it's pretty much the same style of the slim PS2...

i dunno. rumors are afloat that Squenix will have an exclusive MMO for the PS3, and that Epic has a PS3 exclusive coming. those would be two big suprises.

i wouldn't sweat the Team ICO leak though. everyone knew something was coming from them already; and given that the leaked video was probably over a year old, chances are newer stuff will look almost completely different graphically, if not aesthetically.

@ atrimus

There will always be exclusives, why do they still 'surprise' people?

Console: "bag of money for exclusive to offset risk of sales flop?"
Publisher: "yup"

i hate to say it, but sony boy is right. the top is nice and sleek, just like past PSPs. if you can still control video and music functions with it closed, i definitely wouldn't mind being seen in public with the thing.

(disclaimer: I bought it on clearance for $30, and was like 10 years old, so I totally didn't care that I looked like a doofus while playing)

I wouldn't worry...if the PS3 Slim box was real, then it means a change in the way Sony is branding the PS- line, in specific terms of the PS3/PS2/PSP/PSX style logo from a thin, squared off design to a more rounded edge and thicker design.

The PSP Go box branding should have also show this change in branding, because big companies like to keep things like that consistent. But its not, its still using the same PS.. branding as we've seen for the last decade or so. So therefore, I call bull on the PS3 slim *box*.

The PSP Go looks very good when is closed, very sexy. But the metal rings and the analog placement are the things that makes the design looks not so sexy.

And also, I just noticed how in the back there are four huge screws... that looks ugly too. They should have covered those screws.

agree with this. however i cant really judge the ps3 slim because we havent got a complete look at it just yet. whereas with the PSPgo we have videos and plenty of press shots. if i didnt already have a blue 2000 i would bite on a go simply for my downloadable titles from the PSN.

oh, and add trophy support to the psp please.

infact, support our PSN Friends list while your at it.
