Square Enix has seemingly jumped the gun on at least some of its E3 news, with the trailer for Nier finding its way online, not to mention the game getting an official website. Hey, there's even gameplay!
The art style looks like a pretty dramatic departure from the Japanese company's usual androgynix, not to mention the vast swathes of blood. Maybe that has something to do with Square's recent fascination with the Western market? That remains to be seen. We'll assuredly see more as the week progresses, though feel free to peruse our gallery of screens below in the meantime.

It's a square-enix game what more did you expect?
Anyway I have no problem showing this game ahead of time, clears up the "meh" games from the MS and Sony conferences.

ya that and the music. the music they choose for some of their games really doesn't seem to fit the mood, thats one thing that has kept me a way from a lot of their games in the past

If anyone can make an awesome console action game, it's the folks who brought us Dirge of Cerberus!

Is it a cool thing to have less armour?
Characters have no helmets in games, little fabric for armour and no sheilds
EG, Kratos, Marcus, Killzone soldiers.
Is the only hero with any common sense Master Chief?

Wait what...? Seriously...? Marcus and the Killzone soldiers do wear armor.
Kratos though? His armor is his angst and muscles. Arrows do nothing when he flexes his pecs, and blades can not slice skin coated in the ashes of that person's loved ones...
Can't get much more armored than Kratos...

You realize that the armor policemen and soldiers wear is practically all fabric, right? We don't equip people with large steel mail and plates to stop bullets; we equip them with layers of kevlar. You don't see soldiers lugging around shields either, because they're too cumbersome. If that's your idea of reality, you're off the mark. Yes, there are some people lacking their helmets in Gears and KZ, but the creators are just trying to differentiate the characters.

It's called exaggeration DrgnAK, I honestly don't expect every game character to be running about in full steel metal armour with shields and titanium helmets, come off it.
While I'm taking the piss out of the fact Kratos wears little or not armour (most of the time), I'm also baring in mind that him not wearing any armour is a way of demonstrating how tough he is (although, JRPGs made by square are a different story, they tend to wear baggy jeans and funky tops, nothing else).
Honesty, whether the character wears armour or not makes no difference to me considering its a game, I just figured I'd mention the epidemic of none armour and appropriate defensive equipment :D Much like Ivy in Soul Calibur.
You would have thought you'd get the hint I was messing about after I used Master Chief as an example, he never removes his armour, even when hes safe at home sipping on a cold beer.

It depends. Some cases little armor can make a character more flexible, able to swing that heavy sword around faster, run faster, etc.

Hmm, SE is making Devil May Cry.
Besides, if they really want to target western markets, they need gruff dudes in power armor with big guns and biceps with a diameter that matches monster truck wheels, not dudes with spikey hair and big swords.

Am I the only one who got the Too Human vibe from the fraction of seconds of gameplay that we saw? (Yeah, the obvious joke would be to say that I'm the only one who actually played TH)
