They changed this because people complained?

So instead of going into a store, paying 20 dollars and getting all fronts, a free theme, a poster and presumably a free xbox dvd case...we can now pay the same amount of money to just get the map pack.

Good job retards. Good job. One of the few times a company will ever give you a legitimately good deal and you guys convinced them not to.

Van Faulk, your info is wrong.

BEFORE everyone complained just the map pack by itself cost the same as the retail disc that had the extra stuff.

Now the map pack by itself costs $5 less than the retail disc that has the extra stuff.

Just to clarify, before your options were:
All Fronts retail: $20
Dark Corners download: $20

Now your options are:
All Fronts retail: $20
All Fronts download: $20
Dark Corners download: $15

All Fronts = map pack + extra stuff
Dark Corners = just the map pack

Errr, a little more accurate clarification.

All Fronts = Map pack + new campaign + both old map packs + premium theme
Dark Corners = Map pack + new campaign (does not include the old map packs)

Then why, pray tell did joysiq write:

As for 'All Fronts,' it's ditching its planned retail release for an exclusive Xbox Live Marketplace stay, where fans will be to download the content for 1600 ($20) at 12:00am GMT on July 28.

That doesn't sound like there will be the planned retail bundle at all. It sounds alot like people complained and epic scrapped it, which is what I was angry about.

@vcize

Hes not complaining about the price drop. Thats cool we all like price drops. What we have a problem with is that they dropped the retail pack completely. So we lose all the extra that could be bought with the retail pack and still pay the same price.

there wasn't that much extra in the retail version to begin with. the only thing it had that the downloadable one won't is the poster or whatever it was. thats it.

This SOOOOooooooo messed me up. My wife and I play Gears 2 just about everyday. So much so, that I picked up another xbox so if she is playing and I want to play something else, it's no problem. I was going to buy the retail package and use it for the second copy of Gears. I guess that screws that up. I already have the other map packs. How will I be able to use it for the other box now? Are they going to split up the download keys, or will I have to screw with the license tool that you can only use once a year to clean this sh!t up.

And don't get me started on the fixes in the title updates that neuter that game for whiners while people still use glitches. I mostly play just horde, and in many respects the game was better on release day. Hopefully when the release the new maps they add host migration.

So if you want the maps, you pay the $15 and if you want dark corners you pay $20, I thought the 20 dollar price tag nets you all the maps and the campaign dlc. Now its seperate? Someone make it clear for me.

No if you want just dark corners which is the new campaign and new maps you pay $15. But if you want all of the maps including the new ones then it is $20. That is the way that i understood it.

is dark corners an entire act or just a chapter? I just replayed and, and saw the part where Marcus thinks he knows how to sneak in and has some theron armor, but that was halfway through an act, and 15 dollars seems like a fucking outrageous price for 1 chapter

"Believe me if its anything like the Pc bonus chapter is worth the 20$ alone and it includes all the previous map packs and with any luck the Premium theme."

See this is whats confusing me. Buying the dark corners gets you the maps as well or no? I have a feeling that if I want the dark corners and the new maps, Im gonna end up paying over 30 dollars if its seperate.

I believe it is just a chapter or so, not a whole act.

It's not really $15 for that though, it's more like $5 since the MP maps probably account for $10 out of that $15.

oh yeah id forgotten Dark Corners had new maps too, I thought they were just put in the other part of All Fronts. Also to the first guy, no I havent played the new map, what I said was, I replayed Gears of War 2, and at the part right after Dom kills Maria, Marcus has a pile of Theron Guard armor and says "I think I found a way to sneak into Nexus, but if you wanna go in guns blazing I don't blame you", but in the regular game, you do indeed go in guns blazing, and it's obviously the part where Dark Corners would have branched off

I lost so much respect for Epic games between Gears 1 and 2. They continue to show they have no clue about what makes games great. Playing Gears 2 makes it so apparent that Gears 1 was a fluke.

Gears 1 is one of my favorite games of all time Gears 2 is like the biggest letdown since DMC2.

Sorry to rant but Epic is just fucking up left and right.

The game itself is fun, the support from Epic has been absolutely horrid.

There are still plenty of bugs and loopholes that have yet to be addressed.

I'm not buying Gears 3.

@Manly

Yeah so melee and grenade tagging through walls, jumping through walls via hopping over a sheild, chainsaw invincibility, Sheild weapon glitching, weapon sliding, blind firing that launches bullets at foot level, random dropping from parties during matchmaking, 20 mintue matchmaking times, spawning without weapons, infinite ammo, crab walking, mantling over cover to float in the air, invisibility, kung fu flipping,

Yes, HUGE improvement! Gears 2 is a better game than the first in theory but in practice it is a walking joke when compaired to the first game.

Sadly, with all the problems with Gears 2 I keep hoping that the next patch will bring back the spark that made the first game great.

I don't really mean to be a jag-off, I felt the same way with gears 2... I was an insanely huge gow 1 fan, played it for hours a day... and had those same problems with gow 2...

But it is important to notice I say had, they have fixed pretty much every single one of those problems (admittedly now I am bothered by the whole no shooting out of a roadie run...) The guns blindfire straight, the slides are fixed, the chainsaw flinches now etc etc

I think 1200 is reasonable for the Dark Corners DLC, as long as the theme is included. I hope it's not an "extra" only included in the All Fronts pack. It's bad enough that newcomers are getting a much, much better deal that the rest of us, and giving extra goodies to these people isn't fair. All the loyal fans who've been spending their hard-earned money on the game for the last 9 months would be getting a rough deal. Surely it's those people who should be rewarded?

READ THIS PLEASE

For all you confused people: the original pricing for dark corners (7 new maps and the campaign chapter) and all fronts (all of the map packs *flashback, combustible, snowblind AND Dark Corners) were both 20$ (1600 ms points) so obviously it was a total rip off to all the fans, like me, that had already paid for the map packs and Epic is a cool enough company that they actually LISTENED to their fans and made the pricing fair.

hope that helped

You know what, at the end of the day its not the fans faults, because we were all split on getting either or, i personally wanted the disc as i had missed one of the map packs, so i wanted to get the retail disc, for the poster and the physical media.

At the end of the day Epic and Microhard just screwed up on this one, they could have made a good chunk of change but instead tried to make a killing and screwed up and showed their true colors. I lost a lot of respect for Epic when this came out, now i know to always wait on maps, thats all.

Yeah it never was a disc. Even at retail it was a DL code. The box was just for the poster and guide and so it could be put on a shelf.

Maps get discounted all the time, this sure isn't the first.

And I blame MS for this. Epic tried to release this at retail and it sounds like MS wanted this all on the XBLM.

Epic tries, they just don't get much help from MS like Bungie does. The big issue is still lag. Everything else that bad anymore. Same as gears1.

Wow what total confusion. After reading all these comments I STILL don't know for certain what the cost and content is for Dark Corners and All Fronts. Why doesn't Epic just sell all this shit separately? I, for one, would welcome downloading a new campaign chapter only, as I rarely play multiplayer. And paying for All Fronts is kind of a waste of money for someone who already has even one of the downloadable map packs.

There was NEVER a retail DVD of this stuff to be had.

Kotaku even posted the box art when this story first broke. It was ALL CODES IN A BOX. Just like GTA L&D. No DVD AT ALL.

The box had a big red banner across the top that said "DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT ONLY".

Ditching that was a good move because that was just annoying. I think that the positive reactions to the DVD of the first two Fallout DLCs was also a factor here. Now if they want to do a retail disk, they can really do something cool and I would personally like that over "codes in a box".

GFWL - And there is always the possibility of Gears 2 on the PC as well.

OK, fantastic... so this pack will be 1600 points. In Canada, we can buy (at retail) points in denominations of either 1400 or 2800. Thanks a lot MS. I'd been going to pick this up Day 1 using store credit . Now? Not so much.

Yeah I see where you're going. I have $10 store credit and it would have been great to get half-off All Fronts. Now I've got to use it to get half off 1400 points, then the next best option is 500 points directly from MS for $7.25 to make up the difference.
