These are the artists rocking out in Guitar Hero 5
When Activision announced Guitar Hero 5, we knew little more than the game would include some notes, and possibly a popular ditty or two. Now, we know all sorts of stuff, like the proposed "Band Moments" and the game's release date (9/1/09). But, we still haven't seen anything on what we've all wanted to know: The included artists. Now, we're happy to report that would-be rockers and rockettes now have a definitive list of talent featured in Activision's latest cash generator music rhythm game. And, it's staggering. So much so that we were forced to place the info past the break, for fear of an avalanche on the front page.

if My Morning Jacket's "One Big Holiday" makes this game, i'll be pissed...Rock Band needs to get on the Indie/Alt wagon
Tiptup300 @ May 31st 2009 3:22PM
"Bob DylanBon Jovi" is one of my favs.
Dmacleod14 @ May 31st 2009 3:35PM
i know!
the fact that the arctic monkeys are here could either be a good thing or a really bad thing. Good being that maybe rockband will also get them, bad being that neversoft, being the a-holes that they are, probably bought the rights to it and so we'll never see these songs charted correctly.
umm....hello??? @ May 31st 2009 7:09PM
umm....this is a GUITAR HERO game, not Rock Band.
Cookie Monster @ May 31st 2009 7:26PM
ummm....hello? ...a lot of people don't like guitar hero, because the owners of the "Guitar hero" franchise (activision have done NOTHING for the rhythm game genre except for when they bought other peoples ideas (harmonix), copied other peoples ideas (harmonix), take the rhythm OUT of the rhythm game genre (see: GH3's "tapping"), and then they ran what could have been a great franchise straight into the ground (hopefully they get to hell soon...).
The only positive thing they have really done was generate some competition.
Kornkid @ May 31st 2009 9:38PM
"hey ran what could have been a great franchise straight into the ground"
Lego Rock Band..
Drew @ May 31st 2009 10:05PM
I'm sick of the "indie" shit. Its over-marketed bull. Indie was good after 90's punk. Now its all "ooh, look he is talking about a "litteh albatross, flyehn in the aehr," he should "play faeh." It redundant crap that must have been edited together by Parkinson's sufferers. Then they stick on the whole "Oh, we wanted to try something new" bull crap to make the out of tune harp shit fit in, and all these ex-"scene" kids eat it up! Fuck!
In my opinion.
Here's something we can all agree on: GN'R, get back together and save us!
Luigi193 @ Jun 1st 2009 12:54AM
Woah, I was comment the same exact thing as tiptup...
kenewser @ Jul 15th 2009 11:59AM
megadeath yes my fevorit band
tmacairjordan87 @ May 31st 2009 2:20PM
Wow that is one awful list of artists. I'm interested to see what the megadeth song is but that's it really since rock band's getting all the good Maiden songs soon.
Johnathan @ May 31st 2009 2:27PM
What awful list? Do you mean to say that Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Johnny Cash, Peter Frampton, Santana, The Police; just to name a few, are all "awful"?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 31st 2009 2:32PM
No, Maiden's good but like I said Rock Band's getting all their great songs soon.
soccerdrew17 @ May 31st 2009 2:39PM
frapton=auto win. probably show me the way, but do you feel like i do and its 10 minute jam would be amazing
Dr. Flex @ May 31st 2009 3:26PM
You can't really get excited over the artist list. I thought GH 3 was a good example of great artists and mediocre songs.
Sly, King of the First Isle of inFamous [PSN SniperChameleon] @ May 31st 2009 3:33PM
the list is epic, i've seen some of my favorite artists on it. finally, a music game got the gorillaz! and looks like GH5 is gonna have a nice healthy dose of JACK WHITE!
Flit @ May 31st 2009 3:38PM
There's Maybe 10 artists on there not previously seen in a rhythm game, which is disappointing to say the least. Especially since most of the "new" artists to the genre are One Hit Wonders, rather than actual good artists whose songs would be fun to "play", in the game sense.
Oh, and one of those bands is Spacehog, which, as everyone knows, makes the entire video game world worse off for having to resurrect that Damn song for one more beating of our collective eardrums.
oolz @ May 31st 2009 4:06PM
Flit:
Well said. people ooh and aah over the list, but a lot of those bands can be found in the other guys game. Also, few of these bands are exclusive to Guitaro Hero. If Activision has them, you can almost guarantee that Harmonix does as well. Iron Maiden is a perfect example. When their name popped up on the Smash hits set list, people freaked out, but then Harmonix practically trumps that entire game by releasing a shit ton of Maiden. I'll save my money and use it to pick and choose the things I want when I want them and play them in a game that, even after Guitar Hero 5, will still be superior.
mynk @ May 31st 2009 6:58PM
where's does it offend you yeah?
neal @ May 31st 2009 2:21PM
looks good, tho could all be added as DLC but noooooooo! activision insist in another bloody game!
Shadsy @ May 31st 2009 2:36PM
That's a good price for that many songs though.
jamie365 @ May 31st 2009 2:52PM
i agree could just get a whole set of songs and realist them as DLC for like £20 instead of milking the game even more
Hafkie @ May 31st 2009 3:29PM
World tour is NOT A GOOD GAME. I don't want to play DLC in it.
I want to play DLC in a good game like Guitar Hero: Metallica, but it's not there (except for Death Magnetic)
WT DLC will be in GH5, WHICH WILL HAVE THE IMPROVEMENTS OF GHM.
And what I mean is, the drums just go so much better on the eyes in GHM. I can't see the purple line on most note highways in WT, and the new bass drum line is MUCH better. Also, GH5 and GHM both have "Black Fretboards" (GHM via option/cheat, GH5 by default it looks like)).
With the interface being easier to read and there being individual star power/band saving mechanics, this game is already miles better than WT and Metallica (which was already good).
What I want now:
Improved auto-converting for RB drums. (Instead of Ride and Crash on blue, put Ride on Blue and Crash on Green. Also, throw 16th/32nd note hi-hats on the red pad instead of the yellow, switching the snare to Yellow)
Allowing RB2 and the Ion to have velocity sensitive hits. Also, 5-Lane drumming for Ion kits.
World Tour Exporting (I like the songs, it's just the engine I hate)
3-Way Faceoff (No more byes in GH tournaments!)
Lobby-based online system (They used in GH3, and it was great. Don't know why the ruined it in WT)
VaultICEE @ May 31st 2009 4:41PM
It may be a good price, but why can't we just hand select the ones we want?
This kind of applies for Rock Band releases as well as GH ones, though.
Vcize @ May 31st 2009 4:54PM
Waaaiiiittt a second. When RB2 released with little more than what could have been applied in a patch for RB1 (WT solo mode) everyone said it was a good thing because it meant you got all those songs for $60, whereas to buy them as DLC would cost much more.
But when a new Guitar Hero game releases that looks like it will be a MUCH bigger step up from GHWT than RB2 was from RB1, it should have just been DLC instead?
That doesn't make any sense.
Danny @ May 31st 2009 5:23PM
Quit yo bitchin
swanny5150 @ Jun 1st 2009 10:40AM
@Vcize
Damn fine point.
It never ceases to amuse me how RB fanboys often contradict themselves while bashing the GH product.
MarkHawk @ May 31st 2009 2:24PM
Guitar Hero 5! Now with a more Rock Band look! Also some songs we didn't put on the other 4 disc we had coming out this year...
MystileArmor @ May 31st 2009 2:25PM
Goddammit... Damn you Arctic Monkeys! Making me have to buy GH5.. ugh!
Einhanderkiller @ May 31st 2009 2:36PM
Everybody always says that but they never really mean it.
MystileArmor @ May 31st 2009 2:42PM
My fullband set of GH world tour says hello.
I bought that only cause of Dig Out Your Soul that appeared on it in full.
Rockband 2 I got, cause of the other Oasis tracks that were on there. I enjoy playing it, but only vocals and drums. I've never even touched the guitar that came with it.
I am a musician, so I don't really get off on playing a fake plastic guitar. I don't own a drumkit, however, so playing along with some of my fav songs is fun. Singing along with them is a good way to improve on my singing abilities, although the pitch detection is not as accurate as I'd like to see.
Eduardo Mori @ May 31st 2009 5:06PM
Also planning to buy this because of Arctic Monkeys...
...if Harmonix don't announce a DLC or this band in Beatles Rock Band.
MystileArmor @ May 31st 2009 5:07PM
Now all we need is The Last Shadow Puppets' Age Of The Understatement as full album in one of these games and I'm set.
Harmer @ May 31st 2009 2:27PM
Face to Face song HAS TO BE Disconnected. That will be so much fun to play.
mikazi @ May 31st 2009 2:27PM
Does "Queen & David Bowie" kinda confirm Under Pressure?
Ace @ May 31st 2009 2:34PM
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking... wish they will have some more Queen in there besides Under Pressure, there are way better queen songs.
Ghoti @ May 31st 2009 3:09PM
Yeah, and Wild Cherry would more than likely mean "Play That Funky Music".
Alex McKee @ May 31st 2009 2:28PM
The inclusion of Arctic Monkeys makes me smile. The Kings Of Leon stuff better be something off of Youth and Young Manhood, or I'll be pissed. I honestly wonder how Gorillaz is going to work, being Guitar Hero and all. Gotta love Bob DylanBon Jovi though. :P
Danny @ May 31st 2009 3:46PM
It's going to be Use Somebody or Sex on Fire, you can bet on that. And when the set list is revealed we will collectively put our faces to our palms.
Cian @ May 31st 2009 4:16PM
It's Sex on Fire, it was already confirmed.
Sly, King of the First Isle of inFamous [PSN SniperChameleon] @ May 31st 2009 6:37PM
the gorillaz song is probably gonna be clint eastwood. that's the only song i imagine would fit well in guitar hero.
Rick @ May 31st 2009 2:30PM
If it's Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do (Live)"...then consider this a day one buy!! Otherwise....I'll live without another rythym game in my life.
Shoooryuken @ May 31st 2009 2:37PM
I threw up in my mouth a little. :[
craig @ May 31st 2009 2:33PM
king crimson - 21st century skitzoid man; please guitar hero gods!!!
B3astofthe3ast @ May 31st 2009 2:34PM
Megadeth? They betrayed Metallica!
Martin @ May 31st 2009 2:42PM
They have a whole 'nother game to add those tracks to. ;)
The Baron @ May 31st 2009 6:11PM
If it's not Tornado of Souls, I'll cry for a good few hours.
StGermain @ Jun 1st 2009 6:46AM
Please let it be their "Duke Nukem Anthem"...
Conor @ May 31st 2009 2:34PM
That line up destroys Rock Band!
bongoes @ May 31st 2009 9:02PM
Normally I would disagree but, THE WHITE STRIPES!!! ARGH!!!!! WHY CAN'T THEY BE IN ROCK BAND!?!?!?!?!1/1/
Indefinite Implosion @ May 31st 2009 10:15PM
yeah, I dislike pretty much everything about GHWT, from the stupidly fat necks on their guitars, to the playlist of ghwt and the look at feel of the game and how activision runs it, but now this set list, dammit.
I might just have to buy this :(
unless rock band gets some serious dlc announcement soon that includes some of these awesome artists.
p.s. I do think GHWT probably has a slightly better drum kit, but that's it.
