Assassin's Creed 2 launches November 17

In addition to the crazy announcement that Assassin's Creed 2's Ezio has beaten pretty much the whole world to the invention of the gun, Ubisoft announced that the game will be out on November 17. ...Seriously, if you've got advanced weaponry like that in the 1400's, you could probably make a very tidy living as an inventor. Why all the running around and killing people?

ThatPCgameryouhate @ Jun 1st 2009 11:02PM
Just start saving money now. It's not that hard, you put a nickel in the jar every day for four months and you have... 6$. Dammit, only 1/10 of the way there... unless it's rockband.... then you're 3/100 of the way there.
Crap, I'm screwed.

L4D2 is on the same day...
Foetoid @ Jun 1st 2009 10:24PM
Was it really a gun? It kinda looked like he retracted the blade into his wrist then fired it out.
Crusty Magic @ Jun 1st 2009 10:30PM
"...Seriously, if you've got advanced weaponry like that in the 1400's, you could probably make a very tidy living as an inventor."
Only if said inventor was fabulous.

"The oldest surviving gun, made of bronze, has been dated to 1288 because it was discovered at a site in modern-day Acheng District, Heilongjiang, China, where the Yuan Shi records that battles were fought at that time."
Thank you wikipedia.
That's under the term "firearm."
Bryan W @ Jun 1st 2009 11:33PM
Except, you know, guns were around in China in the 1100s and reached Europe by the 1300s.
FJ 2036 @ Jun 1st 2009 10:35PM
They Said Da Vinci would give him " advance weapons " ... but I think it was a blade that fired, not a gun
Premature ejaculation man @ Jun 1st 2009 10:38PM
Clusterfuck of games! Who didn't see this coming again? I'll probably buy this around christmas
Nathano235 @ Jun 1st 2009 10:39PM
I haven't seen the footage, but guns, including pistols, existed in mainland europe before 1485, when this is set.
Sly, King of the First Isle of inFamous [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 1st 2009 11:00PM
what they didn't say is that ezio's gun is actually a MINIGUN! take that, 1400's!
Cosmo @ Jun 1st 2009 11:01PM
I hope it'll be a simultaneous release for all platforms, I'm looking at you PC. ; )

I just couldn't get in to the first Assassin's Creed, but hopefully AC2 means that we'll see more of Jade Raymond in the spotlight. :)
Victor @ Jun 1st 2009 11:26PM
why does he have his ring finger? assassins don't have their ring finger!
xtremeholymuffin @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:41AM
The first one was awesome. It only suffered from 3 things: repetitive sidequests, completionists who unnecessarily drive themselves insane trying to collect everything and do every sidequest and then complain on the intarwebs, and most importantly, giving the player too much freedom to play the game THE BORING WAY.
Penny Arcade doth quoth: "It's ASSASSIN'S creed, not MANIACAL GUARD KILLER'S CREED"
xtremeholymuffin @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:48AM
Oh, and the storyline was really great. Cool concept, innovative storytelling (the Desmond bits) clever historical/religious tie-ins (Jesus, anyone?), subtle details (the way the assassination targets are interconnected), interesting analysis of the Assassins' philosophy, predictable but nonetheless satisfying twist, and I loved the character development of Altair from jerk to....misguided professional.
The combat system was also completely underrated. Again, they gave you too much freedom to just stand in one spot and counter if you want.....yes, it's effective but how can you complain about how repetitive it is when you're not utilizing all of the attack options you have been given?
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 7:16AM
I agreed with everything you said but this:
'completionists who unnecessarily drive themselves insane trying to collect everything and do every sidequest and then complain on the intarwebs'
This wasn't one of the problems with the game (it's not even related to the game, duh). The problem was that Ubisoft created those templars and those flags... for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They might as well have not included them, they were basically useless.
At least GTA would reward you for acquiring every single item, I hope Ubisoft learnt their lesson.
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 7:17AM
Oh, and don't get your hopes up on the gun.
Remember the crossbow? That's what I call fake advertising.
Brandon @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:08AM
The first game had an identity crisis. Every single thing that you had to do was based in realism, from the weapons to the stealth attacks (hiding from guards in order to escape.
Until the final boss, who could teleport from point a to point b. Where did that come from? I was left pissed off that the entire game could be so cool and realistic and they pull some stuff out of their @$$ for the finale.
lefty1 @ Jun 5th 2009 3:31PM
I've seen gameplay footage, it looks AMAZING. Check out the designer interviews on the Ubisoft site, they talk about all the things they ditched after the first game (like the flags), supposed to make gameplay more fun.
And the wings are a DaVinci glider, which you use in a really sweet sequence.
