while I understand this game is a hack and slash style game like God of War, I think you're giving it a little to much crap for it.
Personally I can't wait to see some damn game play.

Whoa!
The art style sucks, looks like a bad version of God of War.
You would think any artist reading the Divine Comedy would have better ideas for the look of the world.
Seems uninspired.
I thought they would make looked wicked trippy but still evil.

It's like no one who posts here understands that God of War was inspired by Dantes Inferno among other works and ideas, and that Dantes Inferno itself will be something very different from God of War, and that if two games look similar because that's how the inspiration works, it doesn't mean it's a copy.
Plus MANY PEOPLE, don't play PS3 games, and thus having something similar is a good idea for them.
I was blown away by the accurate portrayal of some of the levels of high content as seen in the beginning of the game with the sinners who couldn't move and were "grown into" the ground in a root like manner.
But as in many things, much torture, possibly imprisonment, and scarring needs to be made on the main character, if it's to have any semblance to Hell, his sacrifices and losses (fighting through Hell won't be easy and you will most certainly not win every event or battle) and of course if its to stand a beat towards Dantes Inferno itself, and the concept of Hell.
Here's hoping for a real torturesque game wth sacrifices and imprisonment... I'd just love to see that character (but I might settle for someone he knows) to be suffering and tortured possibly imprisoned in one of the levels of Hell, in very visceral and graphic manners..
I hold little hope that it will give us a true semblance to Dante's Inferno, but I maintain a fraction.

I love the *idea* of this game, but I find the design of everything, and the voice acting that I heard in the trailer, to be absolutely terrible. Maybe this sort of thing would have flown a few years ago, but I feel like currently, games can be more than this.
But seriously, I could even deal with the voice acting if it didn't look so 100% vanilla. Gotta appeal to the frat boy population, I guess.

does anyone remember the psp cover they made that made it look like you were reading the divine comedy?
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/07/02/reading-the-divine-comedy-or-playing-psp/
i guess one of the developers played god of war while using that and thought "hey, let's make dante's inferno like this!"
and thus, the dante's inferno video game was born.

I just can't help but be bugged that Dante is doing crazy, gravity-defying leaps, all without bending his knees in a suit of armor..

All genres have look-a-like characters. FPS have the slightly grizzled brown haired dude with a beard, RPG's have the spikey haired blonde youth with a large weapon, action games have dude with sharp objects.

The problem lies in that it isn't JUST that, the "copying" isn't subtle at all, hell, they have very similar animations,

Noshino is correct, the similarities are more than just because they are the same genre. there are other games in the same genre that have completely different directions which work very well, like Devil May Cry and Prince of Persia. this seems to be a downright carbon copy of God of War though. similar subject matter, animations, plot, art direction, musical score, etc. but even with that said, i friggin love God of War, so to be able to get a similar game possibly right around the time God of War III drops (hoping we'll find out for sure in a couple hours on that) will be a nice treat. i'm not offended at all that they are so similar honestly.

So, does this mean we'll be seeing Dante's Purgatory and Dante's Paradise too? :\
I still have mixed feelings about the epic poem being turned into a mainstream blood-guts-gore-action-fest (!!!) of a game. I too would have liked a more original looking style than what is presented, but that would not sell as well I suppose. Too bad. I hope it's still more interesting then just slogging through a typical hack and slash, not that I don't enjoy that I just enjoy new experiences more. I will be keeping a look out for the reviews and hoping for the best.

The dialog hurts my brain. I don't know quite why in particular every spoken line made me cringe: maybe the forced, over-the-top delivery, the pointless cackle, the fact that each line seems dragged from "The Big Book of Meaningless Cliche's," or that this was all inspired by a work or poetry.
I've never read all of the Divine Comedy, but I assume "You'll never get the girl...Daunte! Bwahahahaha!" is not a direct quote.
Apart from that, (insert positive comments here).

lookin good. this is one that i've been keeping an eye on because it looks like it could turn out to be pretty good. i mean the only real limit is how far the devs want to push this because they have every opportunity to make something special with this subject matter. that can really be said about just about any game honestly but this one has the advantage of being based on the classic Divine Comedy, which gives it a great foundation. depending on when it's released, it could certainly serve as a poor man's God of War while i wait for God of War III or a little after i finish God of War III and will undoubtedly want more. either way, they had my attention from the gate and i'm still eyes open on this one.

Waiting for some gameplay footage - the more I hear about this being a god of war clone and the longer it goes without showing any gameplay footage makes me worry.
Though I think it looks good and I'd probably get it if it turns out to be an 8/10. As I loved god of war very much....

the real danger in putting out a game that looks, smells, and feels like God of War, but aint....is you may have problems with gamers who know how to slice, dice, decapitate, and flat out spill some demon/god blood...
If it smell's like mouth watering, cheese melting, topping laden, hot pizza.....but taste like ass....alot of times you don't choke it down....you spit it out...and ask for your money back...unless your a monster like me and and choke it down anyway....
all in all will have to wait and see if this bad boy comes to play...

um, did Dante stab Beatrice in the face in the book?

What a travesty. Has nothing to do with Dante's Inferno whatsoever. He's a pilgrim, not a fighter. His trip through Inferno is about learning how people are punished for killing, stealing, cannibalizing, being frauds, etc. Maybe the developers of this game will learn that the hard way.
