Crytek isn't waiting around for the next wave of consoles to hit before melting eyeballs in the living room. In fact, publisher Electronic Arts announced that the German developer is already prepping a follow up to Crysis, this time for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well as the PC.
Creatively titled Crysis 2, the title is the first built using the studio's new console-ready middleware, CryENGINE 3. Nothing else is known, though with E3 kicking off this week we've opened up a new box of tissues just in case we hear more.

Find me a gaming pc for 399 that can play a game like killzone 2 or gears of war 2 maxed out at a constant 60fps (30 is damn near unplayable on a pc) I'm not against pc gaming or anything, I'm just saying that not everyone has $1500+ to blow on a gaming pc every 2 years. (ok maybe it's more like $1500 at first and then $250-$350 yearly for graphics cards)

399 dollars? OK
We're going by the metric that the games will be played at 720p, since that is console resolution for pretty much every game these days.
9600GT = $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187032
AMD X2 2.5Ghz dual core = $56
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103255
Socket AM2 Motherboard, 1000MHz FSB = $44
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153120
4GB of 1000Mhz RAM = $55 (or $32 for 2GB - still enough)
500-600W power supply = $30ish
160GB hard drive = $40
Windows XP OEM = $90
Sorry, joystiq only allows 3 url's in one post. The rest is all also from quick searches on newegg.
Grand total of: 395 US DOLLARS! (or $378 if you only go for 2GB ram)

Baron, you can't go more than 3GB really for windows XP so I would assume 2GB would be better (and is more standard for games).

@ Chris D.
Yeah I know you can get more that 3GB support on x64 systems, I thought he meant just XP OEM. It's all good though, I think everyone made the point that PC gaming can be as cheap as you want it to be.
@jorojoserojas
Yeah that is all it really is for a decent PC. Except if you never had a PC before, you'll have to get a monitor (or you can use your TV if it supports it). He also didn't add in a case (which can be cheap as shit if you want it to be).

Yeah, I forgot the case. If you already have a PC then you use the case from that (they're pretty much standardised), as well as your mouse and keyboard etc. Cases can be as cheap as $20 though and don't really make a lot of difference, so again it doesn't matter. All the peripheral parts like that are very cheap anyway, most can be had for under £5 here in Britain.
That graphics card, and indeed pretty much all of them today, have HDMI outputs for TVs, and DVI outputs (which can cheaply be put through adapters to the older VGA) for monitors, so that would also be fine.
On a related note, that PC kicks the shit out of a PS3, and I was purposefully finding very cheap components. Put another couple of hundred dollars in and you can get a monster - but again, this is completely optional. You CAN spend $1500 on a PC, but I wouldn't :P

I beg to differ. I had that card and a similar cpu (2.6 ghz) and it would hardly ever go above 40fps in team fortress. crysis wouldn't work well (above 10fps) on anything above low settings. and this was at 1024 X 768.

You sure?
My old card was an x1950Pro 512MB, bought for £90 3 years ago and about 3 generations behind the 9600GT. My CPU is a 2.2Ghz AMD X2 (i.e. worse than the one I said), and that setup, with 2GB, maxed TF2 with 4xAA on 1680x1050.
Might wanna try updating your drivers.

x1950Pro 512MB is leagues ahead of a 9600GT. there is a reason you require a much more powerfull power supply.
9600GT is an okay card, its definately no better then mid-range, you could probably play Crysis at low settings getting 15-25fps.
most other games would be playable on average to lower settings.
the rest of the components aren't terribly important, but I would be scared to use your 30$ power supply unless you don't mind replacing components regularily. Power supply is one of the most important components in your tower, I would suggest a more expensive one, NewEgg has the Corsair 725 on for 110$ right now regular 250ish (CDN) plus you get a mail in rebate. you won't have to replace that supply or fry your ram/hard drive for a like 10 years.

1. Monitor. ~$200
2. Case -- good case necessary for necessary cooling. ~$100
3. Your PSU will do more harm than good +70$
4. Nvidia gtx 260 your best bet for decent performance +100$
5. Better off getting a core2quad or a core2duo +50$
6. 160GB Disk, to run out of disk space after a couple of weeks, great.. Might as well +50$ and get a 1TB disk..
AMD rig will run hot and the performance is gonna be shit compared to a core2duo or core2quad rig, for not much price difference..
How will you cool this rig ? Also overclocking ? If your going for budget you got to be thinking about overclocking as well..
No offence, but not my idea of a great rig, might appear to be cheap, but then your better off spending that money on a laptop imho and not even bothering with the build.

The baron,
NVIDIA's G96 core is only comparable to a stock G92 equipped card when heavily overclocked and, even then, still loses by about 15% at its absolute best; whereas G92 cores have between 112 and 128 shaders, G96 only has 64. And, to be completely honest, the Geforce 9600 GT's a bit of an underperformer for the price since $20 more buys you an HD 4770; not only does the HD 4770 simply slaughter the Geforce 9600 GT, it's faster than the Geforce 9800 GT and often offers either slightly slower or equal performance to the more expensive HD 4850 and Geforce 9800 GTX +.

What are the specs of your PC and what settings are you running at? Are you running at DX9 or 10?
The console versions will be locked at 1280x720 whereas for a PC, the sky is the limit, you can use a Xbox 360 controller for Crysis and hook up a PC to an HDTV.

Well it's Core2Duo at 2.66Ghz, 4GB of RAM and ATI HD 4670. I think it's powerful enough for Warhead isn't it? and it's DX10 and on Vista.
I have no doubt that PC version will be wildly superior in terms of graphics and such, but that's the way I like to play games, I gave up PC gaming years ago!

luckily for you console gamers. CryEngine3 was made for the PS3/360. That was Cryteks number one goal for CryEngine 3 since they knew that it would obviously work on the PC easily and it dosn't take any real effort for them to make it work for the PC.
The problem is that because of the system specs of the 360/PS3 even though CE3 is amazing and incredibly advanced you guys still won't have the highest level of detail but probably around a high, maybe max dx9 settings.
Regardless it'll still look good, just not as good as the possible PC Max.

wtf are you talking about? your eyes can't see the difference past 30fps. So you would never know the difference between 35fps and 120fps. It does sound like you have a grudge against PC Gaming. I didn't have 1500 dollars to blow on a pc. So I bought it and payed it off in about 4 months without interest.
I still think it can be said as fact that PC gaming ALWAYS going to be the winner based on the fact of sheer versatillity. You can use Mouse/keyboard or go joystiq (or flight stick or wheel, macro game pad etc.). You can buy/build a pc for about ($800?) and be able to play all modern games (albeit with medium settings). Free online, Free Mods, Free Patches (and more patches at a time). No licensing fee so cheaper games (You can buy a game for PC for $49.99 while the same game of xbox360 or PS3 is 59.99. Free multiplayer that doesn't cost anything (or get shut down if no one plays it for a while {PS3}. The option to view games on your TV or your monitor or 2 monitors or 10 monitors (hard to do but still).
The list goes on.

2. Nobody plays Crysis online on the PC, for the reason in 1.
3. I'd be amazed if this sells well on consoles. Most console kiddies will rent it, play through it once on easy, return it, then bitch about how it sucks and how they'll keep playing Halo/Killzone/MindnumbinglygenericconsoleFPSofchoice.
