@ Fenix: because UFC is so perfect....

i can only imagine a MMA game as polished as Fight Night. So long as they somehow get the UFC fighters in there game then good. otherwise this is going to be lame.

In about ten years, probably less, EA will probably acquire every MMA license they can get, then release a mediocre product with tons of hype and yearly $60 updates.

i am not sure how this game will compare, it might be the skate of mma games. activision did some things with tony hawk but when skate came alone it didn't bring anything TO the table, it BROUGHT the table!

ufc is a great game BUT is very limited to what you can do outsied of online which is laggy and full of quitters who hate to lose and a career mode with TONS OF MENUS! by ea coming out 2nd with EA MMA it gives them a chance to tweak what they have and see where thq and yukes went wrong.

only downside the only mainstream name being randy couture who i believe isn't in the thq game because his rights were tied up with ea.

lets just wait and see!!

Not sure how they're going to pull this off without the naming rights to all the fighters. The vast majority of popular MMA fighters are owned by the UFC, and MMA is a very identity-based sport. People want to fight as their favorite fighters, or at least fighters they know. Made-up or obscure (at least to the casual MMA fan) fighters just won't cut it.

Maybe it'll be made up fighters, or maybe they'll license fighters from other UFC type fights such as Strikeforce, WEC, or even the defunct Elite XC?

Since this is their first MMA type game, I bet it will mostly be made up fighters and a handful of licensed ones not signed to the UFC game such as Couture and Shamrock.

UFC owns WEC. Haven't watch much of the WEC tho. Only a few fighters I know like Jens Pulver and Uriah Favor (spelt that wrong I'm sure).

I'm sure they're gonna lock up Strikeforce, Affliction and or Dream/Sengoku. There are a bunch of names not in the UFC.

Fedor
Gina Carano
Babalu
Mayhem Miller
Eddie Alvarez
Barnett
Lil Nog
Brett Rogers
Kid Yamamoto
King Mo Lawal
Kevin Randleman
Gilbert Melendez
Josh Thompson
Jeff Monson
Bob Sapp
Aoki
Alistair Overeem
Nick Diaz
Robbie Lawlor
Jake Shields
Randy Couture
Bobby Lashley
Cung Le
Frank Shamrock
Ken Shamrock
Phil Baroni
Mousasi

Theres a TON of names not in the UFC. By the time this game comes out just about all these names should be familiar to MMA casuals since Strikeforce has the Showtime and CBS TV contracts in place. I cannot fucking wait!!!

handlas

Actually both WEC and UFC are owned by *ZUFFA, and yeah it's Urijah Faber.

EA should have no problem with finding names for the game. I 100% doubt they will just put made up fighters in there. Theres plenty of guys out there for them to roll that route.

If the EA gameplay is better than THQ, I think most gamers will play it over THQ.

Just look at FIFA vs PES franchise. FIFA had more clubs signed on, but for so many years gamers preferred PES over FIFA because of the more realistic game play.

yea umm...theres only one problem with this game...who are they gonna have? randy couture (maybe), fedor emilianenko, matt linland, josh barnett, maybe renato babalu sobral and nick diaz,,,,but thats it...they cant sign anyone else cuz everyone in the ufc game signed a 10 year contract with thq prohibiting them to appear in any other game....sure the ufc game isnt perfect...but its pretty damn good....ea can make a good game, but it wont go far without the ufc license...if anything it will make thq work harder for ufc 2010

With no UFC support, this game is an instant failure. There aren't enough relevant fighters outside of UFC/WEC, it's like making a basketball game without any NBA players.

Also, apparently UFC has the lifetime game rights to Randy Couture along with most of their other fighters over the last few years. So even dudes outside of UFC now or who leave in the future aren't going to be allowed into other games.

This game could get expensive for EA with Undisputed the UFc was able to just shove a piece of paper under its fighters nose and say sign it. However with this there are different promotions to deal with plus fighters agents and the fighters themselves who unlike THQ does with Undisputed as the UFC owns there video game likeness they ALL have to be paid.

There are CAF lists online for UFC 2009 for everyone not in the game. Plus they have the UFC guys.

This one ain't gonna sell, sorry. Ask any casual fan what they think of when they think MMA and they'll answer 'the UFC'. Affliction will be lucky to have a 4th ppv after hemorrhaging all their losses (even though the CEO claims they'll have 3 more after this "trilogy").

Strikeforce is a decent competitor because unlike EliteXC they actually make a profit and don't put overrated under-trained fighters (Kimbo Slice) against UFC rejects (Seth Petruzelli) to lose and essentially kill their company overnight. And Strikeforce owns most of the contracts of the EliteXC fighters including Carano.

I can see this EA game making a deal with Strikeforce, but I doubt they'd go after Affliction since Affliction is more like their own thing (having WAMMA belts) versus the UFC having their own stuff and Strikeforce having their own belts as well. Between Affliction and Strikeforce, Strikeforce is more likely to be around another 6 months.

There's only about 5-10 fighters that casual mma fans will know that aren't in UFC... And buying individual people to use as characters can get VERY expensive. With that being said, THQ made a great game, which will only get better, it's only problem is if EA can make those improvements in their launch title.

What I think would be cool is to make it EXCLUSIVELY CAF... Make it super-indepth, not to the point of RPG.... but insanely indepth.. And have some people, like Randy, Fedor, as trainers and unlockables and guys to help base what you want to play as..

Personally, I like Creating fighters to play online with exactly what I want... Why play as UFC characters when I can play as me online...

So everyone here is just going to bitch and complain this game isn't going to make it because they don't have access to the UFC roster?

I don't know about you but I'd rather have fucking awesome gameplay, with FNR4 graphics and lesser known fighters than a shiny fucking GSP throwing superman punches at me all day, and then quitting once I pound his ass out.

Maybe, but they'd have to wait at least 10 years, since THQ was there first and already locked up the rights for that long.

Personally I'm not interested in licenses. I believe that EA can provide superior production values to their games, an MMA game of Fight Night's graphical calibre would be sublime.

What I truly want is a game to fill the void left by the excellent Def Jam: Fight for NY, I loved that game to death. I don't care about famous fighters, I'll make my own in my likeness with my own style. If EA can provide that experience better than THQ can then they'll have my money.
