Epic's Cliff Bleszinski just took the stage at
Microsoft's E3 keynote and revealed
Shadow Complex, a new game for Xbox Live Arcade in collaboration with Chair Entertainment, the folks behind XBLA title
Undertow. Mixing elements from titles such as
Contra and
Super Metroid, the game is a 2D title infused with slick 3D graphics. Big guns and big enemies are the name of the game here, as Bleszinski promises big boss battles and a summer release for the title.

The Live Demo they just aired was pure EPIC!
1) Cliffy B and some dude come out. The other dude begins talking and the mic doesn't work. He continues talking while they scramble to get him a new mic. They give him a new mic, but that doesn't seem to work. The dude says, "I won't need this now, because I'm just gonna play the game." The dude then continues talking for another 10-15 seconds.
2) The demo ends with the main character floating in the air and apparently glitching. Granted, it's just a demo of unfinished code. But so was GEARS 2!.
BRAVO EPIC, you've outdone yourselves once again!

"The Live Demo they just aired was pure EPIC!"
Don't ever say that again.

didnt catch a live feed.. honestly i cant blame him raggin on epic but Vic is a general hater i dont wanna fight about it.
live shows have glitches, thats why i like E3 summaries more than live play by play coverage. im not gonna get caught up in the poor showmanship; these guys get paid to make [complete] games not powerpoint presentations..
i really think devs should stop showing unfinished games.. i hate media blackouts but poor presentation doesnt help sales and it only fuels the fanboy flamewars.. trailer, teaser or nothing at all

Yeah sadly this isn't Epic's doing. This had been in the works for a long while by Chair Entertainment group, long before they were acquired by Epic. If I have my facts straight, this is in sync with the Empire IP created by Chair with the release of the Empire novel, authored by Orson Scott Card, who is the author of the Ender's Game series.

Here's a more accurate recollection of it:
The guy's mic doesn't work, it keeps cutting out. They scramble to get him a new one, and someone runs up a handheld mic. He says "I can't use this because I'm about to play" so he starts playing and talking, but you can't hear him.
Cliffy B ad-libs and does the talking for him while he plays. He did a pretty admirable job for not being prepared to talk about it. But then at the end of the demo the guy is up on top of a boss shooting down at him and the boss just disappears (glitches). The guy is still standing on top of the boss, but you can't see him so it looks like he's just floating in the air. So the guy pauses the game and they cut the demo.

This game looked good - veeeery good.
A cross between Super Metroid (SNES) and Flashback: The Quest for Identity (Sega CD/MS-DOS/3DO/Jaguar).
I've been looking to a proper Flashback sequel or spiritual successor for almost 20 years now. And right now, Shadow Complex looks to be the closest thing that I am ever going to get to that goal.
Definitely, day one purchase. And all haters . . . well they can play something else if they want to. After all, it is a free society.

AlpahGeeeK @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:26AM
Yes, the mic didn't work, yes the boss disappeared at the end and left the player levitating BUT: the game looked awesome. Can't wait for this one.

I don't believe the presentation would sway people away from buying their products. That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.
Anonymousaurus @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:27AM
i cant believe this didnt get that much attention,
watching the demo in action showed lots of exciting potential for the sidescroller action/shooter; despite the bugs that can be easily fixed when this game ships out on XBLA.
