Facebook, Twitter on Xbox Live this fall

Also: Twitter is coming to Xbox Live! We'd say more about it, but that isn't in the spirit of Twitter.

CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 1st 2009 2:59PM
That whole presentation by her was horribly awkward.
Alex Sohn @ Jun 1st 2009 3:02PM
awww a ps3 fanboy is crying...did the metal gear announcement hurt you too much??
That facebook announcement no matter how it was delivered, is HUGE
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jun 1st 2009 3:04PM
An actual web browser would be even better...
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 1st 2009 3:06PM
I sold my PS3 about a year ago haha. I rarely play my Wii...usually it's just my 360. So no, you are horribly wrong.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 1st 2009 3:09PM
Yes, a full web browser would be nice. I'm surprised they haven't put out a version of IE for 360 yet.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jun 1st 2009 3:37PM
DUDE, you NEVER say awww on joystiq. EVER.
G3ORGE @ Jun 1st 2009 3:41PM
no i think the Wii ppl are crying their major cliche' just went out the door
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 1st 2009 5:46PM
why would Wii people be crying? it has a browser too, just like the PS3. this is certainly more slick integration but facebook has been viewable on both PS3 and Wii for literally years now.
B @ Jun 2nd 2009 6:20AM
@dark_inchworm Uh, no. It wouldn't.
The PS3's browser is so damn shoehorned into that machine it's unbelievable. I've had the browser crash on me countless times because it's just not optimized. It crashes on damn YouTube videos due to the lack of resources.
I'd rather have channels that are form fitted to the 360.
Philip @ Jun 1st 2009 3:01PM
Great News :)
Sion @ Jun 1st 2009 3:03PM
I can see it working. I would like to know more.
Rhamsey @ Jun 1st 2009 3:03PM
i dont use facebook for twitter, but Felicia Day is hot, so points for that. well played ms, well played.
Ghen @ Jun 1st 2009 3:43PM
She is hot. and I'd make a facebook page just for her if it came to that. Which it never will. *cries*
Pumapayam @ Jun 1st 2009 3:04PM
Anyone else notice that the riff-raff site "Myspace" was not even mentioned. How the mighty have fallen. Another win for Facebookers.
Myspace has really fallen out of style.
Hafkie @ Jun 1st 2009 3:12PM
Well, I don't think it's that as much as the fact that Myspace gives users too much freedom and this would be difficult to integrate into the Xbox without making a full browser. (which they could, but I wouldn't use it)
In fact, I used Myspace for a week before I switched to Facebook. It gave people WAY too much freedom, and I don't want my computer blowing up because some idiot embedded 50 Youtube videos on their page, and pointless annoying GIF animations as the background. I've seen enough of that crap on Geocities back in the day.
Facebook is very uniform and clean, especially with the new facebook layout. It is much more friendlier on the eyes.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 1st 2009 5:52PM
i agree with hafkie. i've had MySpace and facebook since i started college 4 years ago and facebook is the only one i keep track of now. MySpace is poorly coded and it doesn't help that people that use it have no design sense and create some horrible looking pages. facebook is just right, clean, quick, and now integrated everywhere. sure i miss it only being open to college students (cause then i could put whatever i wanted on there) but it's still a much better site than MySpace.
Firespray @ Jun 1st 2009 3:27PM
Oh dear God no...
Obie @ Jun 1st 2009 3:28PM
Felicia Day is adorable.
deanb @ Jun 1st 2009 3:29PM
You can get Last.fm, Twitter n Facebook (and Myspace and well the entire web) through a Web Browser. Rather than having to systimatically integrates sites with the 360 don't they just stick IE on it and call it a day?
Ghen @ Jun 1st 2009 3:46PM
They just don't want the xbox streaming redtube.com (nsfw if you don't get the context). That'd be bad for their image.
And almost none of Wii owners have the browser because they didn't get it when it was free.
deanb @ Jun 1st 2009 3:54PM
I suppose I get the fact they don't want the kiddies getting onto the bad stuff, but surely it shouldn't be too hard to build in a parental filter? They have that Live Family thing for PC.
Also another thought I've had, whats the point of Twitter without a browser? You won't be able to add folks, view Twitpic, or any links that are posted. it kinda throws half of Twitter out the window.
Badboy1979 @ Jun 1st 2009 4:19PM
Yea, you could get all that thru a browser but having it integrated into the system makes it much better in my opinion.
It's kinda like comparing Netflix on the 360 "version 1.0" to the new version that's coming out soon where you can add, browse, movies... having better integration makes the experience much better. Also, kinda how the Iphone app is much better to use than just pulling up Facebook on the Iphone's browser.
Sure I could browse to facebook on my PS3... but having a customized UI giving me the ability to view full screen photos, see streamlined updates of statuses, browse profiles, etc is a welcomed move as opposed to using a mouse pointer to clicking facebook/twitter on my console's browser.
Some people like using browser's on their TVs, which is cool... I, for one, don't. But that's just my preference.
Joshua @ Jun 1st 2009 5:25PM
Because we don't need another shitty version of a shitty browser - and if they do it they would use IE - so that's what we would get...
Cory @ Jun 1st 2009 3:36PM
hmmm... I don't think I'll ever use facebook on my 360. I don't really see the point in it. And Twitter interests me none at all. Seems kind of like a pointless feature. can't be mad at them for putting it in there though I sure some people will enjoy it. whatever.
el serpiente @ Jun 1st 2009 4:02PM
Great, welcome to the new AOL of the living room.
The walled garden lives!
Jacksons @ Jun 1st 2009 4:22PM
Sad, but true.
Brandon @ Jun 1st 2009 4:07PM
They need to add myspace!!
Cory @ Jun 1st 2009 4:17PM
well they did say 25 social networking sites so I assume it will be there.
Christian @ Jun 1st 2009 4:35PM
liked that the note about twitter is less than 140 characters....
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 1st 2009 5:56PM
dude what the hell is your avatar of? does that kid have a chubby?
Maulok @ Jun 1st 2009 4:56PM
I couldn't care less about Facebook and Twitter integration, as the functionality is just stuff that already is or should be integrated directly into NXE (and PSN for that matter, but don't get me started on how behind us poor PSNers are. We just got text chat LOL!)
That said, mainstream press that are jumping on the Facebook and Twitter fad will surely cover this story, garnering lots of press for MS.
*checked cnn.com to confirm*
Mission Accomplished.
slainbaby @ Jun 1st 2009 6:12PM
What electronic device doesn't have Facebook or Twitter added(an bit of an exaggeration I know). It seems Microsoft is sucking up all the companies they can: Netflix, Last.FM and now this plethora of social networking sites. All of which we could have had, had the 360 just had a browser.
moby @ Jun 1st 2009 6:23PM
I rarely use the chat features now except during a live game. I'm all for integration, however, to me it is more of a distraction if I'm in the middle of the game.
Christian @ Jun 1st 2009 10:39PM
It's anime: Gintama when he found out he has hair other than his head....
rambodude72 @ Jun 1st 2009 11:01PM
maybe they could make a browser to come out with the motion thing thatd be bitchin
Nick @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:29AM
First, Felicia Day is the cutest thing since sliced bread. She kicked ass in Dr. Horrible and loves to promote Joss Whedon. Me saying this obviously makes me gay, but so be it.
I don't need a browser on my 360. I have a computer. I have a phone with a browser. I'm good.
I DO however like Facebook and Twitter on the 360. I can constantly update my status when I've p0wned some other n00b on my Gears of Dead: World at Fortress!! :D
On a serious note, they need to make the stupid on-screen keyboard QWERTY!
Can I get a 1,000,000,000,000 strong against that stupid linear on-screen keyboard?
Kevin @ Jul 1st 2009 1:05PM
hello? u can make it qwerty if u go to initial settings in my xbox and go to language and click on English(QWERTY)
Nick @ Jul 2nd 2009 1:02PM
o.O.
I never knew. That's freaking awesome. I've changed, happy days!!!
This must have been new come the NXE, and I was just so frustrated that it couldn't be changed before, that I never checked. Awesome, thanks!

Why the hell some people are against facebook and twitter on xbox is beyond me, you don't to bloody use it.
