But staying true to classic Square Enix form, this trailer still involves ZERO gameplay.
Hey Square Enix, just a tip: when I'm researching a game, I want to see what aspects of the game I'll actually be controlling. Not the ones that will present me the best opportunity for a quick bathroom break and/or Cheeto fix. k? thanks.
JXCgunrunna @ Jun 1st 2009 11:13AM
Except its developed by Double Helix, not Square Enix
Storm Eagle @ Jun 1st 2009 11:17AM
Your point is? My point is every game that has Sqaure Enix's name tied to it, regardless of wtf they're doing with it, their trailers include no gameplay. No matter what stage of production the game is in. I don't want to see MOVIE trailers, I want to see GAME trailers.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jun 1st 2009 11:33AM
I have to agree here. I might as well be watching a trailer for a new animated movie. This tells me nothing about the game or why I should buy it.
Michelobius @ Jun 1st 2009 1:11PM
Yes, god forbid the first trailer for a game you see is scant on details but is designed to pique interest and is known by everyone to be a teaser trailer
/sarcasm
But no, Squeenix is pretty bad at not showing gameplay in their trailers. Worse, this trailer doesn't even tell you anything about the story, characters, and didn't involve any humans in any way. In all honesty this teaser trailer doesn't even do its basic job of getting me interested.
Rhamsey @ Jun 1st 2009 10:54AM
I liked the ending of the video, with the mechs charging off, but i wish we could see the game in action.
Tony @ Jun 1st 2009 10:57AM
I really don't see it as a "reboot". Nintendo didn't reboot Mario with a Tennis game... FF has had variations as well.
I'm glad they're exploring other options. I doubt they'll ever just drop the strategy games entirely.
Captain Planet @ Jun 1st 2009 10:59AM
Oh how I miss MechWarrior...
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 1st 2009 11:01AM
Mercenaries was awesome.
JeSuZ Cicle @ Jun 1st 2009 11:46AM
I miss Mechwarrior and Mechassault, I'm getting tired of these silly Japanese mech games. They make the mechs very similar to a human running around, almost to the point where you could swap art assets, and have a half assed 3rd person shooter. I miss games that made you feel like you were driving an unwieldy walking tank with ridiculous firepower.
Seriously why the hell would you design a war machine with nimble little hands, instead of attaching the damn gun straight to the thing? Oh because that would actually make sense :D
captain underpants and the bringdown gang @ Jun 1st 2009 7:16PM
interchangeability, and so you can pick up enemy weapons also, hand to hand combat etc...the real question is why would you
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 1st 2009 11:02AM
wow that trailer looked like it was for a PS2 launch game. The in game screens look 10x better than that did
Ghen @ Jun 1st 2009 11:08AM
Agreed, definitely not up to Squeenix's normal graphical prowess.
SunKing @ Jun 1st 2009 11:18AM
Agreed, the CGI is terrible. Actually, the whole thing is terrible :(
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 1st 2009 11:03AM
Well I may not speak for everyone but:
You Dig Giant Robots,I Dig Giant Robots,We Dig Giant Robots ,Chicks Dig Giant Robots...Nice.
Neo Senku @ Jun 1st 2009 11:06AM
You speak for me and because my vote is worth the population of the platnet+1 you do speak for everyone.
headkicker @ Jun 1st 2009 11:09AM
YEESS!! What happened to that show?
person guy @ Jun 1st 2009 12:08PM
i loved that show! lol nice
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 1st 2009 12:32PM
holy shit i just realized that's where Mr Khans avatar came from
Jerk Face @ Jun 1st 2009 11:05AM
I just peed a little bit. Oh, how I love Front Mission - turn based strategy or otherwise.
headkicker @ Jun 1st 2009 11:06AM
I never played a Front Mission game. Is the DS one any good?
KapsLocked @ Jun 1st 2009 11:47AM
It's essentially two of their old SNES RPGs put into one console. They never released them stateside, however, so they're nicely translated.
I liked em', but I do like them robots. Basically a turn-based RPG where you get to customize the parts and weapons on the mechs, with an interesting story to boot.
Get it.
Xoonaka @ Jun 1st 2009 11:15AM
Don't forget, Americans also love slow motion shell casings flying and logos conveniently placed atop them as well.
profeteer @ Jun 1st 2009 11:21AM
Dammit, I don't want it to evolve! I want something like FM3 with badass graphics. We have enough mech action games.
Sophtaveus @ Jun 1st 2009 12:02PM
i partially agree. if they had already produced a current gen fm that was the standard turn based affair then fine, evolve away. but since a fm hasnt hit the states since fm4 years ago on the ps2 they should provide a turn based fm before they go all armored core.
Frank @ Jun 1st 2009 11:22AM
oh god oh god oh god oh god.
I don't care if it'll still be turn-based or if they decide to go Armored Core/Mech Warrior with it. If it turns out nice, I'm freaking sold.
-Vexx- @ Jun 1st 2009 11:41AM
Looks like Square's Turn based mech explosion fest is back
*big smiley face*
SuperGayParade @ Jun 1st 2009 11:47AM
Holy crap it's Starcraft 2! A marine's suit is being assembled!! OMG!
:\
Pureshooter @ Jun 1st 2009 11:50AM
No U-Turns? How the FUCK am I supposed to turn around!!??!!
-Vexx- @ Jun 1st 2009 12:14PM
Umm Im starting to wonder if anyone posting here even know that Front mission is a Turn-Based Strategy game :|
The only way it should be compared to Armored Core or Mech warrior/Mech assault
Is the appearance of mechs
cafecito @ Jun 1st 2009 1:45PM
I do know Front Mission is a SRPG series, but a previous joystiq article says it's gonna be an action game. I don't even know where to start on how dissapointed I am by that... I really wanted a REAL current-gen Front Mission game.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Jun 1st 2009 12:30PM
Oh man these guys don't give me much confidence as developers. I love Front Mission though, and I hope it turns out good!
cafecito @ Jun 1st 2009 1:50PM
So ... Double Helix is out to insult another established game franchise. We all know how it went with Silent Hill Homecoming...
I mean, it's not a strategy game anymore? C'Mon!
kwizzeh @ Jun 1st 2009 4:18PM
A favored RPG franchise + Double Helix = Everyone loses. The Star Trek-equse teaser does not help at all.
Tez @ Jun 1st 2009 6:09PM
Just make it play like FM3, please.
