'Fury' coming to WipEout HD
One of the new modes being reintroduced to WipEout HD is the "Eliminator" mode, last seen in PSP's Pulse. This combat-centric mode gives favor to killing instead of racing. It's one of our favorite modes from WipEout Pulse, so we're glad to see it make a comeback.
In addition, the upcoming Fury DLC will add "Zone Battle," a multiplayer twist on the classic "Zone" concept. In this new mode, players will be able to acquire zone pads and choose between a speed or health boost. Opponents will be able to drop zone barriers, a deadlier WipEout interpretation of Mario Kart's banana peel. Finally, the "Detonator" mode has players shooting at mines while trying to try through 14 different stages. We'll be giving you a full hands-on report on "Fury" later this week.

3D Patch!!! Come on Sony, give me 3D tech.
traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ Jun 1st 2009 10:17AM
I honestly don't see what the big deal about this game is, but that music kicks ass.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 1st 2009 11:36AM
I actually agree, I was really excited for it, I bought it near day one and found it to be extremely boring. It's very very pretty, but other then that...boring.
Overgauss @ Jun 1st 2009 7:35PM
I've already had a talk with WHD explaining that it's me and not the game that's at issue, and that even though I absolutely have no more space left on my 60 gig that I won't delete WHD and will even hold the cursor over the title image once in awhile, activating the thumbnail animation to remind me of the times we had. Heck I even saved the in-game screenshots we took together.
Depending on pricing, this might be enough to re-kindle our relationship.
WiredKnight @ Jul 17th 2009 3:52PM
@tiptup
Try a race in the Phantom speed class and see what happens.
JamboGT @ Jun 1st 2009 10:17AM
Now thats what I call an expansion, great game getting better, best value game of this generation so far as well!
Fun DMC @ Jun 1st 2009 11:23AM
I love the game too, but Burnout is by far the better value.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 1st 2009 10:18AM
Why haven't I downloaded this yet? I own every other Wipeout, yet I have yet to experience the sheer joy that this one has to offer. Today. It's getting downloaded today.
Billy @ Jun 1st 2009 4:34PM
You're in for a treat. It is is absolutely gorgeous.
JamboGT @ Jun 1st 2009 10:23AM
Everyone with a PS3 should have this game!
required @ Jun 1st 2009 11:54AM
The PSP versions are a lot better. I personally do not like the PS3 title at all.
Mornelithe @ Jun 1st 2009 6:20PM
@ traceur_ryuk_shinigami - It's a big deal because A) The Wipeout franchise has been tried and true amongst the Sony fanbase for quite some time, and B) It remains to be one of the only games currently out for consoles that is native 1080p @ 60fps (along with GT5). As such, it looks absolutely fantastic, handles brilliantly, and provides an incredible experience for a simple PSN download.

JamboGT @ Jun 1st 2009 10:26AM
Anyone into their wipeout action should look up www.wipeoutzone.com
Neuromancer @ Jun 1st 2009 10:26AM
Kick ass, 8 new tracks! That's like, double!
Neuromancer @ Jun 1st 2009 10:30AM
But when will it come to the masses, that's what I want to know... They don't even guesstimate.
ThermoPants @ Jun 1st 2009 10:52AM
They should put WipEout's soundtrack on the PSN Store. It kicks ass!!
Surfaced @ Jun 1st 2009 11:06AM
Yeah, really. I wasn't feeling the original tracks so much even though I love electronic, but this electro house is rockin the shit.
steven(PSN: small_hands) @ Jun 1st 2009 11:29AM
+1
Wipeout's music is always intense I love it! Good music to listen to down at the gym aswel! Not so good to drive to though... anyway, Wipeout soundtracks on PSN would be a day one purchase for me!!

Coming this Summer.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jun 1st 2009 10:39AM
I guess the chances are slim, but it would be great to have the Puma ship from Pure.
Obi-Habby @ Jun 1st 2009 10:39AM
Always heard good things about this series. Nintendo needs to announce an F-zero so I won't be tempted to buy this.
Cellien @ Jun 1st 2009 10:53AM
Love this game. It's about the only game I REALLY enjoy on my PS3.

8 new tracks? Brilliant! I thought there was only gonna be 3 or something, like the Pulse upgrades. Awesome. Love this game.
Did anyone else notice that they called it PS3 rather than Playstation 3 at the end of this advert?
JamboGT @ Jun 1st 2009 11:06AM
That is a very interesting observation and its in a funky font...
Hitman101 @ Jun 1st 2009 11:04AM
WHAT SONG WAS THAT??? I MUST HAVE IT NOW!!
devilmaker @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:19PM
Machine Gun by Noisia. Good luck trying to find it though, I've been searching too and the best I could find was a youtube vid of the soundtrack. It turns out this must have been a special remix that the wipeout guys made.

NOT FREE DLC for a already cheap game?!?!? EPIC FAIL SONY!!!!
LOL! I figured I would beat someone (anti-PS3 person or someone who wants all things in life for free) to posting this.
GoonieGooGoo @ Jun 1st 2009 1:01PM
I love me some WIPEOUT....but I do have to say.....none of the modern versions have yet to match the perfection that was WIPEOUT XL.......
Descender @ Jun 1st 2009 11:20AM
Huh. I will admit that being someone who doesn't use my PS3 very much, I didn't know they had another WipEout released. I remember the one on the N64 being... unique as a racer, and took some getting used to, but was tons of fun. Just knowing that there's a WipEout HD might be enough to dust off the PS3 controller, instead of the BD remote!
Anyone else have memories of the old N64 version of WipEout?
JamboGT @ Jun 1st 2009 11:23AM
I do but it wasn't as good as Wipeout 2097 on ps1, it was still great though!
Darkdrium777 @ Jun 1st 2009 11:35AM
Who is JamboGT on wipeoutzone? :p
Hi o/
JamboGT @ Jun 2nd 2009 10:59AM
JamboGT is Jambo on wipeoutzone, been there a while but lurk more than post :/
Sega Uranus @ Jun 1st 2009 11:46AM
Why is this BREAKING news? Shouldn't that title be saved for something important?
Whoppy @ Jun 1st 2009 12:17PM
Jizzalicious news.
Bendok @ Jun 1st 2009 12:25PM
Awesome awesome awesome awesome!!!
I better start playing again, I'm getting a little rusty!
tsoul @ Jun 1st 2009 1:12PM
PSA, stop with the WipEout stuff. Yes, it looks like there's a capital E in there, but it's only because of the font. It also looked ridiculous when Wipeout 3 came out and had that "l33t sp34k" Wip3out moniker. It's just Wipeout, and that's how the company itself refers to it. PSA out.
Chris @ Jun 1st 2009 1:30PM
1080p racing with mad electronic beats FTW
Arturo @ Jun 1st 2009 1:37PM
