Game sequels are usually better than the original because of technical and monetary limitations with the first's development. Completely opposite of movie sequels where they spend too much money anyway on every single project that isn't indie.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Has Valve ever released a sequel within a year? I was kind of hoping they would just do downloadable levels.

Hmmm, well would you rather have 4 new campaigns for $15 for L4D 1?
Or a brand new game that comes down to the same price?

4 campaign maps for $15. I'm sure the "new" game changes aren't anything a patch couldn't take care of.

TF2 has seen so many content patches which have added up to MORE then what their adding to L4D2. Why release it?

That came out of no where, it kind of seems like a little too soon doesn't it? Especially for Valve.

Things Valve should do first:
1. TF2 content on Xbox
2. Episode 3.

Things they should do first:
1. HL2: EP3
2. Finish TF2 characters
3. RELEASE THIS AS A DOWNLOAD >

If they make the changes with the AI director that has surfaced then just patching the first game would have been impossible. Sure they could just add new maps of nawlins, but this is going beyond the facelift of a DLC package with just the meager features they've released today.

I don't mind tbh, sadly I never got the first one last year, but I loved the demo and I am definitely excited to hear about this!
I just think it'll get bigger and better.

WTF Already? I guess for them to do any major changes for the 360 they would have to charge so i guess they are trying to get more money from PC users while they are at it, Kinda a dick move Valve.

Then we find out it's an expansion pack for the first game that adds a ton of content for a low price.

At least, that's what I would expect for a game that was just released last year.

Perhaps it will end up like Madden, where every year they feature a new foursome of celebrities that, due to the L4D cover curse, get maimed by the zombie hordes.

That is quite an odd move on valve part. They just barely released the files to make custom content and now there are developing L4D2? Hopefully it will be done in valve time (4+ years) so L4D will be boring by then.

Why would they support both? Sorry, this is valve milking us, oh well. If anything this is just a signal that left 4 dead (1) support is over.

I'm glad they are doing a sequal over DLC. I love L4D but the glitches, and lack of a ranking system are killing it. Hopefully valve learned from the first L4D.

Oh come on! The glitches, instant kills, and other odd quirks made it extra fun!

I mean, I think dumpsters, pianos, and generators shouldn't be moved to block exits, but spamming melee and doing fall damage instant kills were fun.

What if it is just more levels and etc to add on? For a cheap fee of 20 or 30 dollars.
It looks more serious than the first one though, I hope Bill is still in it.

Considering it took years to make left 4 dead 1, this one cant be anything more than more levels or something.

I bet they just want to get more campaigns out, aren't they too big to be in any DLC for the 360.

Anyway even if it's only slightly improved over the first one it will still be great. I'm still trying to master the first one, especially survival mode.

surprise? that sentence wasn't even really needed, anyone could see it from a mile away. chainsaws sounds awesome! i was thinking about picking up the first on PC, but I'll just wait for this.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I enjoyed L4D, but burned out on it quickly by what I felt was a lack of content (i.e. needed more levels).

I have a couple of friends that were recently considering picking L4D up since they've recently burned out on their holiday '08 purchases (which had me pleased since it meant a few more hours of squeezed out of my not-quite-worth-it $60 purchase). This announcement will almost certainly mean they'll just wait for the sequel.

I would have gladly ponied up MS Points for L4D DLC, but now it's looking to be a wait-and-see as for any L4D2 purchase for me.

Exactly. I'm a zombie enthusiast so I got L4D on xbox the day it came out. All was well for the first 2-3 months, after that the user base just went down. I really can't see myself buying #2 for the Xbox, I loved the game but the PC version just has so much more life.

This should have been DLC.
