We've also got the first shot of the game's Ludwig drums. We think it's safe to say they don't quite replicate the look of the real thing as well as the guitars. We're sure they play just fine though.

It debuted only a few hours ago at Microsoft's E3 press briefing, and now we have it right here for your viewing pleasure on the Joystiq stage, the first trailer for The Beatles: Rock Band. The trailer travels through the various eras of the Beatles' career, from the humble, black and white beginnings to the trippy, technicolor middle and even the famous performance atop Apple Records. Check it out after the break.
We've also got the first shot of the game's Ludwig drums. We think it's safe to say they don't quite replicate the look of the real thing as well as the guitars. We're sure they play just fine though.

Oh man. It made me really sad seeing John Lennon's lifeless 3D model singing up there.

It made me somewhat happy. To know that my hero's legacy will carry on and possibly influence people who would otherwise not be that familiar with The Beatles.
Maybe some kid will be so inspired, pick up a real guitar and be the next great musician a couple of decades from now.

Was it me or was Ringo and John not happy at all to be at the Microsoft press conference?
Ringo seemed to be really pissed.
But man that opening cinema is trippy as hell.

You mean Paul.
Do you really mean to tell me you're not aware John Lennon has been dead for well over 20 years?

It's rather weak... especially next to the Bass. I thought by the look of the presentation this morning that the cymbals would be included in the box.

Yea I love how they tried to fake us out at the presentation with the drums with raised symbols like GHWT but all were gettin is the same RB1 drums with fake metal and giant beatles logo

Wow, it looks like they've actually put a lot of work into this. I'm still hoping it will be exportable to Rock Band 3 though.

For some reason that made me kind of sad. I will love this game.

it's kind of bittersweet, i think, because it's going to be great to see a whole new generation of people getting into the Beatles with this game.
but it's sad because John and George are not around to see how much their art is still appreciated decades later.
that's just my take, though.

Wait...
If someone were purchasing this game, why would they ever expect any other artists to be in it?
That makes no sense to me at all.

Its called BEATLES rock band for a reason. And the Beatles don't really have any bands that inspired them like aerosmith and metallica had to put in the game. Unless you want to play chuck berry or elvis songs.

Like any musicians, the Beatles had tons of influences. Along with 50's Rockers like the aforementioned Elvis and Chuck Berry, they were also heavily influenced by other genres, like Tin Pan Alley popular songs, and the English music hall traditions. Plus as they went on, they were influenced by both their pop contemporaries (the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds") and other cultures, like Indian sitar music.
Just how much of that you could get into Rock Band, I don't know. But it would be fun to get that sort of mix in there. I've been dying for some Chuck Berry since the first Guitar Hero.

Wow! I could just sit and watch those cool takes on the songs/performances all day. It had me completely mesmerized. I'm super pumped for this.
Beatles fans and music fans in general should be excited. Hopefully this introduces the band to the newer generations that don't really seem to understand the influence they've had on the industry.

This is the only thing that Microsoft showed off that was a rehashing of something that I liked.
Being a Beatles fan, I can deal with it being somewhat of a Rock Band clone. However, Project Natal and the PSP Go are obviously playing to the casual gamer.
I was hoping for innovation, but it seems that price points (we all know Sony is capable of making the PSP with an OLED screen and dual analog sticks, but why do this when the DSi adds a camera and sells millions?) and add-on toys (the Xbox motion sensor) is what we're getting this year...
I don't even think this will pay off for Sony and MS in the end. They both haven't made the mounds of Nintendo has, and therefore, they can't go on a PR spree to inform the 'casual gamer' about the ton of shovelware coming their way.
I really feel that this year is going to be a slump for us.

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed that they went with the same design. Still no support struts on the green and red pads, but maybe the apparent metal will hold up better. I thought all the visuals looked amazing, but I'm not to happy about the note highways. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but the fact that the notes don't protrude from the track just seems kind of off to me.

I was also kind of hoping to see one more guitar track on there (seeing as they are releasing three unique controllers and all the characters are playing them in game).

That doesn't look like metal. I think it is just "skinned" plastic. Much like the faux-wood sunburst finish on the RB2 guitars.
Really upset with the drums. Was hoping for more than a skinned RB2 kit. I would like to see the pads, to see if they changed the material.

Wow, they got the Gibson/Epiphone guitars they played? I thought Gibson swore off the games with that Guitar Hero lawsuit?

Why is no one else freaking out about this like i am? Three part harmonies? Music video-like backgrounds? And if that wasn't enough, some of the greatest songs ever written. (and to all the non-Beatles fans out there, why are you on this post if you don't like the Beatles?)

Me too; before this I couldn't justify another 'plastic instrument game', but this looks epic.

I am really excited for this, and everything about this game looks wonderful. EXCEPT for the interface.
I understand that there needed to be a change for this game, but some of these changes make the game harder on the eyes.
The vocal track being tan looks like it will be really hard to see if you are the orange vocalist, and having three tracks will just make things even messier. They should have made the pitch lines brighter and have the vocal track be dark gray, rather than the clashing tan. Also, in overdrive, some of the notes are harder to see. It should be a little bit darker. I'm kind of upset, since Harmonix has always been ahead of the game when it comes to nice easy to read interfaces.
Other than that, this game is golden. 3 part harmonies FTW.

I was pissed that those geeks at the conference didn't give Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr raving standing ovation. The Beatles deserve that and more. That was pathetic, young and stupid F***ing Nerds!
