The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition coming to XBLA, PC

Remember that XBLA version of Secret of Monkey Island that was rumored a few weeks ago? Brush up on your insult swordfighting, because it's totally happening. LucasArts is bringing Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition to XBLA and PC.

When don't know when it's happening, but LucasArts will revitalize the series in-house along with its Singapore studio with high-def graphics, full voiceover, a remastered score and a new in-depth hint system. You can check out comparison shots of the old version and the new one (pretty!) in the gallery below.

Why remaster the score?

It originally had almost no music.

VERY happy to see this coming, but I really hope they get the same guy to do Guybrushes voice, it just wouldn't be the same. Instant buy for me either way though.

Gotta make it hip to the younger generation of players, many of whom are to young to remember this series and wouldn't appreciate it as much as us veteran gamers.

Finally a remake of something that I can relate to!!!! I do hope the remastered score is just that, remastering the original score, and not doing a new one, I loved the midi based soundtrack from that game. It was awesome because when I got my first ever soundblaster card, it came with all the lucasarts adventures games, and the actual game cd also doubled as an audio cd so you could pop it in the cd player and listen to the soundtrack, now they just need to announce Loom, Day of the Tentacle, Fate of Atlantis, and The Dig.

I don't know what looks worse, the oh so generic remake or telltales new stoner Guybrush.

I dunno, watching the video there it looks pretty good to me.

And it seems you can switch from the new look to the old pixel-y look. So there's that.

You can switch between the new and old looks. Silence complainers! Don't ruin my buzz.

I like it. handpainted backgrounds. come on. that's awesome. and the switching from the original to the new seamlessly is great!

I havent been this happy for a game announcement for a very long time. Too bad its digital only, i love me some awesome boxart vintage lucasarts. Who knows maybe we'll see Lechuck's Revenge too.

Day one purchase!

I'm so excited for this. Hopefully we'll see more Monkey Island titles in the future, as well as Sam and Max Turbo HD Remix.

Wicked, but I wish the graffics would ressemble more the Monkey Island 3 or 4, rather than the owns we are being showed.

I agree wholeheartedly. Curse of Monkey Island still looks great.

What will make this even better is if they use the headsets for voice recognition instead of having to type anything.

Graphics look less ... funny ... but god I'm glad they're bringing the genre back with this remake. I really, really miss the humor of these kinda adventures.
