This is the Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer you're looking for
Bioware released the first cinematic trailer for their Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO, and it's so awesome you might just forget that Jar-Jar Binks ever existed. Bounty hunters, Jedis, lightsabers, blasters, dramatic orchestral soundtracks, and gravelly Sith voices making threatening statements -- if it's from a long time ago and a galaxy far away (and incredibly awesome), you'll find it in this trailer.
The trailer itself is called "Deceived," and apparently it's about the Sith Empire's sacking of Coruscant. And that's how it begins -- Sith baddies are invading a Jedi temple, and dispatching the meager forces they find there. But a Jedi temple has some strong defense of its own... and that's where the video gets really good. Bioware has also released information about something called The HoloNet, an ingame database of gameworld history, classes, planets and factions, and they've told us that the game is "fully voiced" -- every character you meet will have audio to share. Head on over to our sister site Massively for more.

Jetpacks! Lasers! Explosions! Stuff crashing! Blue titties! Summer blockbuster right here!
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jun 1st 2009 8:46PM
This is what the prequels should have been. Get Bioware working on 7 through 9!
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jun 1st 2009 8:47PM
Nevermind, I should have read teh comments below.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jun 1st 2009 9:34PM

rv @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:40AM
Epic saber battler.
I wish this was single player though, I will never play an mmo.
Frivolous @ Jun 1st 2009 8:03PM
Not a drop of in game footage... uh-oh
Taco_Hell @ Jun 1st 2009 8:04PM
Yes, because when you want to hype an MMO, you want to show gameplay in an empty world.
TwistedBishop @ Jun 1st 2009 8:31PM
The two video documentaries on the official site have shown ingame footage.
devilsei @ Jun 1st 2009 8:31PM
And especially when you want to hype a new MMO, you'd rather show a Jedi swinging a lightsaber at a Tauntaun, hitting it for 20 damage per swing, and taking 5 mins to kill.
Obviously thats much better than showing a trailer made to make the game look like it will be every Star Wars fan's wet dream...
Taco_Hell @ Jun 1st 2009 8:03PM
Sad thing is, I'm pretty sure that one trailer was better than all of the fights in the prequels.
Young_Nastyman @ Jun 1st 2009 8:08PM
Clone Wars cartoon (fuck the cgi one) would like to have a word with you
Rosssas @ Jun 1st 2009 8:09PM
haha hell yes, just a shame the game wont be like this.
Taco_Hell @ Jun 1st 2009 8:13PM
Hey, I said prequels. Clone Wars (the one from the Samurai Jack/Powerpuff Girls/ Dexter's Lab creator) was its own special thing which I refuse to associate with those abominations.
Jomolungma @ Jun 1st 2009 8:04PM
I just peed a little. In my pants.
playwhutyalike @ Jun 1st 2009 9:55PM
Well, I just pooed a lot in mine.
CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 1st 2009 8:07PM
I looks awesome, but it's an MMO, which is too time consuming for me.
Meh @ Jun 1st 2009 8:09PM
I think I just had a nerd-gasm
Destron @ Jun 1st 2009 8:08PM
Man, that was a bad-ass cinematic. I would watch a whole movie if it were done in that style.
emirabal @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:36AM
CON FU**ING CURRED
beans @ Jun 1st 2009 8:09PM
that trailer alone is greater than anything the prequels ever did.
MechaGamerX @ Jun 1st 2009 8:09PM
That Jedi didn't even implodee into his robes when he died!!
Worst. Sith. Ever.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 1st 2009 8:10PM
Step 1: Hostile takeover of LucasFilms.
Step 2: Kick George Lucas out on his ass.
Step 3: Hand the keys to BioWare.
Step 4: Episodes 1-3 reboot.
Taco_Hell @ Jun 1st 2009 8:15PM
Well, we must first gather the Star Wars fandom, the ones who will truly admit that the story in Knights of the Old Republic was superior to the prequels, then, TO NERD-WAR! Which will conceive of everyone fighting with their plastic lightsabers.
Shmil @ Jun 1st 2009 8:15PM
then make episodes VII to IX
Blah @ Jun 1st 2009 9:04PM
You forgot to include the most important steps, the step of cutting a hole in a box and all that follow
squeehunter @ Jun 1st 2009 9:35PM
Lucas can do what the hell he wants with his own stuff.
johann @ Jun 1st 2009 10:28PM
follow with X and X-2 because we all know how well that worked..
Jess Q. @ Jun 2nd 2009 6:30AM
I speak on behalf of the Star Wars fandom when I say, KOTOR was way better than any of the prequels and BioWare pwns the holy hell out of LucasArts.
And all Star Wars fans who disagree with me are heathens.
Also, I will admit that I met my boyfriend through a Star Wars fan club messageboard. That's right: I used Star Wars to get laid.
(YES, IT IS POSSIBLE.)
Covnam @ Jun 1st 2009 8:11PM
Awesome cinematic, now if the game just played like that... I wonder if it would come close if it was a single player game...
TwistedBishop @ Jun 1st 2009 8:34PM
If you look at the Bounty Hunter section of the Old Republic site, it describes and shows little animations of stuff like the bounty hunters jetpacking up into the air and using wrist-mounted flamethrowers. So the cinematic was definitely working from concepts already in the game.
tensider @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:31AM
Agreed about the trailer vs. the actual game. I'm having a Force vision of fetch quests and grinding, which isn't the epic-ness that this trailer hopes to convey.
Arnie @ Jun 1st 2009 8:16PM
Its trailers like these which make me glad I am the geek that I am :) Hope the MMO is as good!
Zack11190 @ Jun 1st 2009 8:25PM
Holy shit! This is going to be fucking awesome.
Lol @ the awesome tag
mortegro545 @ Jun 1st 2009 8:27PM
I can get behind this game.
gamepete64 @ Jun 1st 2009 8:28PM
One word: KICKASS!!!!!!!!!
Sizer @ Jun 1st 2009 8:49PM
If this is at all representative of the in-game style, then it looks like they've dropped the ridiculous body proportions we were seeing earlier.
DrRocktopus @ Jun 1st 2009 8:55PM
Nice little cinema there. I really loved the KotOR games (even the woefully rushed and incomplete sequel) and this just makes me wish they'd do another sequel as opposed to an MMO. I've tried getting into several MMO's and found that, personally, I just get no sense of satisfaction from the mechanics of the genre. I also think that the genre doesn't lend itself well to storytelling which has been my favorite aspect of the KotOR games.
I'd like for the game to be great but I just have a feeling it won't be for me.
Will @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:44PM
Amen, brother.
Mike @ Jun 1st 2009 9:10PM
Let me start by saying that Star Wars is George Lucas' story. I'm all for extending the story via other writers, but it is first and foremost his and he wanted to make the prequels and he had the resources to do so. If you for one second think that he had no right to do that then you sorely lack an understanding for the creative process. If you don't like them, fine, just don't watch them. I for one think that, when watching from episode I to VI, the prequels do a very good job at setting up originals (why Luke and Obi-wan were on Tatooine, why Leia was a princess of a distant planet, how much of a Jedi Master Yoda actually is, Darth Vader's summon role-reversal at the end of Return of the Jedi, etc).
As for the trailer, I think with this style this game would make a frakking awesome movie or action game. The Jedi vs Sith battle totally gives the fights in Revenge of the Sith a run for its money. A lot of the balancing mechanics required from MMOs will totally ruin the essence that this game could have. This is what The Force Unleashed should have been.
Bubbameister33 @ Jun 1st 2009 9:35PM
We all know its you George.
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Jun 1st 2009 10:01PM
Uhh... This is what Force Unleashed was. Force Unleashed was an awesome game and delivered well beyond the prequels. It felt full, fresh, and frantic. Sure it wasn't 700 jedi's having a melee circle, but that doesn't fit the time frame of the story. The time frames fits that here.
If you're jaded about the prequels and Force Unleashed, I don't think anything Star Wars will ever satisfy you. Cling to your "I'm a true fan" beliefs in quiet, there are already too many people out there hating on it for being mainstream. The "it's cool to hate because it's not the originals" is getting beyond annoying now.
Mike @ Jun 1st 2009 10:06PM
Actually I loved the prequels just as much as the originals, and beyond some frustration in difficulty with the demo (which is why I didn't pick up the actual game), I thought The Force Unleashed seemed rather well done. All I meant to say that a game that intended to showcase a Force user kicking ass, forgetting names, would've been in the Old Republic era.
Mr Khan @ Jun 1st 2009 10:16PM
I've never had a problem with the prequels either. I mean, there are obvious directing problems (like the "love has blinded you" crap from Ep III), but the stories were sound, the action was great, and the characters were compelling
bongoes @ Jun 1st 2009 9:14PM
I need to go play KOTOR I and II again.
FAnchax @ Jun 1st 2009 9:14PM
I CAME
WorfoSAUR @ Jun 1st 2009 9:30PM
Can we please just get another single player game? I can't stand playing (or paying for) MMOs.
Mr Khan @ Jun 1st 2009 9:33PM
So why exactly is the Twi'lek there? She seems to have had no business coming to that kind of fight.
Patman @ Jun 1st 2009 10:05PM
i think shes supposed to be an example of a partner that you can have in the game itself, but who knows maybe he just loves having a twi'lek by his side *wink wink*
AwesomeTown @ Jun 1st 2009 9:48PM
Please BioWare, make this game suck, I don't want to be an MMO guy. This amazing trailer isn't helping anything.
Rhamsey @ Jun 1st 2009 9:50PM
omgomgomg, this is so awesome!
