Crackdown 2 features 4-player co-op, 16-player online
Details posted to Xbox.com reveal that Ruffian Games' sequel to Crackdown -- the sleeper open-world, super-powered crime fighting game -- will feature cooperative four-player gameplay. The original game featured two-player, drop-in, drop-out co-op. Also noted: 16-player online multiplayer -- though not confirmed, this is presumably competitive and team-based. If you haven't done it yet, watch the official reveal trailer.

Sweet. That trailer looks pretty damn awesome.
TheDemiurge @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:41PM
What I want to know is if this one will include a lasting campaign, side missions or story. I hope that I won't be able to beat this one in a day. Love Crackdown though.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:09AM
So...4 player splitscreen right?
Trance Addix @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:49PM
Freaking sweet!
Nadril @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:49PM
That's pretty awesome.
ExMcCloud @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:50PM
WTF 4 players...All they need now is a full destruction factor....I wanna blow up EVERYTHING.....Sounds more awesome!!!
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:50PM
Perfect, just what was needed. As long as it's drop in-drop out too.
WiredKnight @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:09PM
"drop-in/drop-out coop" never seems to be as fluid and easy as it should be.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Jun 3rd 2009 4:23AM
It worked really well in Burnout Paradise. If any co-op game can match that it's a winnah!
Rhamsey @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:54PM
Fuck yeah
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:54PM
nice.
No wait let me re-phase that.
NICE.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:47PM
"NOICE!!!"
That's better.
jynxycat @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:55PM
Are they going to add actual in-game content this time around ?
I want to do something more than proceed to a mobster compound, kill 50 guys, and then win the game after I repeat that 12 times.
ELUNO @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:04PM
Play it in hard please.
Shmil @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:13PM
open world games are only limited by your imagination. next time try to have fun with your missions rather than whine about things being repetitive. How would you have made the missions different in this game about super cops? have them sneak in? bs. next time try taking out those 50 soldiers with flying cars and dumpsters.
Vcize @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:45PM
With as much fun as it was to just run around rampaging, collecting orbs, etc in co-op I actually liked the way this game was set up.
We could just run around doing fun stuff, and then be like "oh hey there's a boss nearby, want to go fight him real quick?"
Now when I play co-op in open world games with a story even as limited as Mercs 2 I feel tied down like we always have to be moving in the right direction or we'll fail the mission. We can't just screw around and do story stuff at our own pace.
Psychofemm @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:31PM
Man... I loved Crackdown... but I never did beat it!
I always got carried away doing something else... Even when someone would co-op with me to help beat it.. we'd get caught up doing somethingel......
ooooooooooooo shiny.............
wait.. what was I saying?
Man. blowing up stuff was fun.
LegendaryRedass @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:59PM
Delicious.
Just think of the chaos. For example, 3 dudes throw 3 cars at a point in the air off a skyscraper, fourth one nails them with a rocket the second they all connect. Syncronized mayhem.
Dustin @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:03PM
16 players? thats it? LOL. well... better than just 8...
Saxon @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:05PM
Drop in/out for the first game is being very generous. You could request to join someone's game whenever, but it would take them out of the game and make them start over at the Agency HQ. I hope this time it's seamless.
Stanley @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:11PM
Hopefully, this sequel will revive and extend Crackdown's tradition of great gameplay, stylized graphics, and humor-laced violence.
todd @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:16PM
HELL YA!
xenocidic @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:25PM
Is that 4 players on one box? That would be sweet (if you had a big enough TV).
Shouldn't the summary read "sleeper /hit/" ? =)
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:57PM
Projector ftw. Seriously. Buy one.

How about they've got guys at E3 finding the stuff out? E3 isn't the Joystiq comments, that being a rush to get the "first!LOL" comment.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:32PM
More importantly is there going to be a local co-op mode? Sorry Local Co-op > Online co-op.
Boff @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:45PM
I had more fun having rock-crawling comps with a mate in co-op after the DLC came out! Those little buggies were mental.
Annnyyywwwaaayyy,
Crackdown2!! Woooo!!!!!
K Fed @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:19PM
Wow, I was so sure this wouldn't happen. Ithought Realtime Worlds would have had their hands full with APB.
Nevertheless, this is a definite buy; I have such fond memories of the first game.
NukeAssault @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:29PM
Awesome! Also, i called it!
vdeogmer @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:35PM
Sweet Jesus, please give us splitscreen.
Crawsam @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:23AM
anyone else notice that the game had a very serious flaw with the system link for multi-player. wouldnt connect regardless of how you set it up. fix it then we'll talk about how good this four player co-op etc. will be...
Johnny Neat @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:45AM
As much as I avoided the first one I eventually played it co-op style and had a lot of fun. Although I say co-op saved it and now 4 player co-op pushes it up a notch I can't help but hope that it doesn't do what the first one did which was add time wasting races to the mix or make it where story achievements aren't shared. Individual ones can be understood but if my friend cleaned out a gang why didn't I get that achievement too? That was totally retarded. Anyhow please no time wasting achievements like racing! If I wanted to race I'd put in Pure or whatever sheesh. Plus online battling? Really? I hate these tact on online multiplayer options.
