Hot on the heels of the PSP Go announcement, Sony also tells us at E3 that Gran Turismo may finally see release on the system. They say that even though the game will be on the tiny system, it will be packed with content: 800 cars to race around on 35 tracks with multiple variations that actually allow for 60 different race route. In singleplayer, you'll be able to run singleplayer time trials, and there will also be a mode to help your driving improve. Multiplayer will bring ad hoc four player racing as well as the ability to trade cars back and forth with your friends.
The game will release on October 1, right alongside the new PSP system.

ROFLMAO!!!
BxGT @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:12PM
What good is 800 cars when you cant customize them, i remember you can't even change the color in gt4 not to mention the 32 versions of the same skyline.
s.tam @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:34PM
@BxGT
uh....you can change the colour of your car...just no decals like in forza
is it me or have you not even touched GT before?
PCIV @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:16PM
Different people look for different stuff. I don't care about decals, I want to race a RX8 against a RX7 against a 1 series against a 7 series. And have realistic speed. Guess I'm getting a PSP for this, CUZ THIS IS AWESOME!
BxGT @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:00PM
I have over 200 hours sunk into gt4, i want you to go back and tell me how to change the color of one of your garage vehicles.......exactly.Needless to say i am still getting gt psp.
s.tam @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:35PM
oh! now I see. I thought you meant that you can't change colours AT ALL in any case e.g. new car or arcade mode
I don't know why they killed the paint function form GT1/2
Ravi Nair @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:18AM
@Chris D : Well, its been 50 f***** years, the least they could do is come out with twice as much...
KeenCommander @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:59PM
Wow, I can't believe it's in before DNF. Which is to say, I can't believe it's actually coming out. Let's hope there's no more three year delays.
Bunny_Raven @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:20PM
yay! looks like I won't have to keep playing GT2 on my psp...(it freezes randomly after races...)
sarahozturk @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:55PM

I'll be excited when I see it on store shelves. I can't get my hopes up again.

No wonder GT5 is taking so long. Polyphony have been too busy working on a GT game for a handheld that 200 people own.....
yokel @ Jun 2nd 2009 6:46PM
I'm going to assume that was a typo. You mean over 50 million people?
Mason @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:56PM
so will this be released on UMD as well for us regular psp owners?
Kspraydad @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:42AM
Yes.
carg0 @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:34PM
(laughing)
oh boy! cant wait! now the industry can move forward.

I just played this today at E3 on the PSPgo. The HUD layout is good but the shifting is terrible: you don't use the L and R triggers to up/down-shift, you use the down and up directional buttons, down is to upshift, up is to downshift. I don't have to tell you how difficult it is to steer and shift at the same time like this. I sure hope they fix this or make this customizeable, I didn't see this as an option in settings.
Azariel_z @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:53AM
can play from inside the car?
breachless @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:28AM
OK, first off, let me express my excitement at FINALLY MAYBE getting the Gran Turismo game on my PSP that I was promised years ago, and was the main reason for buying my PSP way back when...
That being said, I have to say it: nice line helper ala Forza... And also, awesome job yet again ignoring millions of gamers and neglecting to put damage modeling. Hurray for Gran Turismo bumper cars. Again.
Which brings me to my next point: I have to cry foul. 800 cars is impressive, but just like previous Gran Turismo games, you KNOW that 60% of the 800 cars are going to be useless cars you will never drive. There will be endless variations of Honda Civics and the like that just don't need to be there. Why oh why couldn't they spend some of that time rendering all of the useless cars on damage modeling instead?
Hopefully, this was just in the early stages, and my hopes will be answered with the final release.
But again, I can't wait for this. I am just a bit disappointed is all...
devilmaker @ Jun 3rd 2009 3:58PM
Because I truly don't think the PSP would be able to do such damage modelling. Every PSP racing game that I have seen is basically bumper car racing. Its just that GTpsp will do it extremely well.
