That's a lot more expensive than a regular PSP-3000 that's for true

But why? I haven't been super close attention to the Go news, but beyond the wifi I heard it has, why is it more expensive?

Probably the 16gb internal storage.

PSP-3000 = $170
16GB Memory Stick = $100

$270 vs. $250

Sounds reasonable to me.

Just bought a 16 GB memory stick for $32, so they're not that expensive anymore.

That's too expensive for me. Rather get a Zune HD, iPod Touch or even a Xbox 360 or Wii.

Really? An iPod Touch?? A 16gb iPod Touch is $299...for $50 less you get music, video, REAL GAMES, and everything else the iPod Touch has.

Yeah, but with the touch I also get a real web browser, a huge selection of music and video to purchase, not to mention the UI on the Touch is light years ahead of the XMB. Looking at photos is great on the Touch with the touch screen. The process to put my media on the Touch is a lot easier.

Not to mention all the thousands of apps already available on the Touch. There is instant messenger on the Touch.

I will stick with the iTunes store and Peggle. Its a lot more portable than this will be. When it hits a better price point I'm in.

iTunes music library is DRM free so you can use the music on any device....including the psp.

1) well you got it on the browser
2) you can put the same DRM free music from iTunes right on your PSP so that point is moot. plus they just announced the Video store is on the PSP now too.
3) the Touch UI is flashier (and has touch) but as far as functionality, PSP still gets the job done
4) they just announced the Media Go app for putting stuff on your PSP so you can't say how easy it is yet without actually trying it first
5) and the Touch has it as far as apps too.

so it's really not a bad deal at all and they both definitely have their strong points. i used my PSP for a couple years as my primary MP3 player and the only reason i stopped using it was because it was just too big (got a Zune to replace it). but for a gaming device to do all that stuff is pretty good for $249.

Yup. Too little. Too late. Too expensive.

Sony has lost this battle to Apple and Nintendo.

i know. it makes no sense. They make it cheaper to make by having the exact same hardware. No umd means cheaper to make and better battery. $250 for a 4+ year old system????

If you buy an iPod touch, you have no need for a Zune HD. Let's face it, the iPod touch is massively better than anything Microsoft can come with since the App store has had quite some time for a great deal of Apps.

I already have an iPhone and i'm mesmerized by the Sony Mylo. I mean Sony PSP Go! This will be my second PSP purchase. I wish it was more rectangular though, I dislike the figure 8 shape it takes on after sliding it out so you have access to the controls.

I think PSP Go will also sport much longer battery life than any MP3 players out there.
And the final nail in the coffin for me is the ability to interface with PS3--so that you can stream in media via wifi, rather than having to synch up with your computer all the time.

I think the next Zune might be able to do that too.

I'm thinking this will be a day 1 purchase for me. I sold my old PSP because it's just to big. You can't really fit it in your pocket, so the only time I used it was in the car when I wasn't driving...which is just about never. Can't wait!

Vote my comment down too, but i don't see an issue with the price. i was expecting 300 if it had 16 gigs of storage. might be a day 1 purchase, depends on how the platform develops till october.

That is me.

Implying that this is in fact the second PSP iteration. Are people blind? I don't know why I got voted down.

lol, wow another dropped hail mary pass...

If it truly costs more than $200 to make they should have just developed a PSP 2.

This is just a completely ridiculous price point for technically old hardware wrapped in a new form factor that may legitimately cost more to make, but why bother.

No? Really? Wow, such insight...

The point is, you're paying a premium for something that doesn't deserve a premium. This doesn't have much style. It doesn't have much of anything going for it considering how old the PSP is now.

Sony had a chance to kick some ass with a PSP 2 (again it could have been done near this price point) and all they did was a feeble slap.

Wow...$250... Yeah that's a competitive price with a music players but with people mostly seeing this as a game machine (and being sold in the games sections of stores), I don't think that many people are going to shell out for a device that expensive.

Hell, I can get a 360 Premium from Dell cheaper than that. I know it's not the same but still... I was kinda hoping it would be cheaper.
