In that particular picture it says "WRC" (World Rally Championship) in the bottom right corner =/

During the demo they also showed a clip of a NASCAR race. Looks like GT5 has secured licensing rights to both the FIA World Rally Championship and NASCAR for the game.

I'm pretty sure I also saw some damage in there... at least on the rally cars. It would be sick-nasty if they could integrate it into everything!

That's WRC alright. Mikko Hirvonen's Ford Focus to be exact. With real World Rally Championship cars this might convince me to get it instead of Dirt 2.

yep, if this has the full wrc competition format and not just the cars, and the cars play at least as good as the rally mode from previous gran turismo games (it has been in it before joystiq) then this will be the game for rally fans, not Dirt2.

Heck, I may actually buy a ps3 now, or steal my brothers ;) Has the potential to be 1st game to make the ps3 worthwile in my opinion.

lol at your comment, Forza 3 is a retarded joke compared to what GT5 will be. The only question is will it ever actually be released. In the meantime Forza 3 wins.

"Forza 3 is a retarded joke compared to what GT5 will be"

you do realize that statement is more idiotic than the one you are putting down?

Unless you work for Polyphony you have no idea what GT5 will be like. Assuming it ever appears and when it does it isn't just a buggy mess that looks better than it plays.

What you see is not always what you get.

Or unless you've played GT5 Prologue. Or any GT for that matter, you know what to expect: Pretty much auto racing/simulation perfection that makes all competitors look like "retarded jokes" IMO. But there is that 10(?)-year dev cycle to make fun of...

Unfortunately, Forza took over that crown some time ago. I'm just happy there are two sim racers available now. I buy and play them all.

Dude, I cant believe that either!!! I was hoping for an announcement for a "Spring 2010" release but I think Sony will release it next "Holiday 2010". Maybe to coincide with the inevitable release of the SLIM PS3...

GT5 looks gorgeous. I mean, DAMN! When I saw the Nascar footage, I was like "Holy Sh!t"! Hopefully, Sony will announce something special for GT5 and MGS:R @ the TGS.

P.S. GT:PSP has more cars than Forza 3, WOW!!!

This is bizarre. How can they still not have dated this game. I am shocked that more fans of the series aren't pissed off here.

I cant believe they are still developing it, how can they possibly sell enough copies of this to pay for such long development and so many features? Its like several full fledged racing games in one. It seems impossible to make a profit.

Maybe Prologue was released in order to fund its development.

@ Duke --- I'm Furious! I bought my PS3 2 years ago specifically for this game, even given the fact that ALL of my VG playing friends play Xbox! I'm missing out on years of online interactions with my RL friends. Every time I hear I hear about something new that PolyD is working on (like the GTR Nav system) I just wanna slap them in the face! I feel like Clark Griswold when he found out Wally World was closed!

I've been a Sony Fan since it's inception but this generation may be my last... I don't mind the fact that Xbox gets more exclusives, but I HATE the fact that Sony constantly teases us with projects that are half a decade out! Their sales pitch doesn't focus on projects on the horizon...it focuses on projects on the otherside of the planet!

Replay data on GT is rendered in real time, so it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.

Yes, its funny how Joystiq is not aware of the reply feature in ALL GT games. Replay in REAL TIME.

Anyone else notice the damage modeling on the Rally Car?

Looks fracking sweet. I would expect a proper unveiling at TGS

The replay is real time but its not rendered the same way as normal playing, there are a lot of added effects since its not as demanding.

Replays are rendered at 30FPS rather than the 60FPS the game runs at, this allows the additional effects (focus, better motion blur, bloom) to be implemented.

so you see my point then? that is, the fact they're showing the replays shows that the game is well beyond the need to show "gameplay."

If any of what they showed turns out to be in-game footage, Forza 3 better watch out. Even if the Forza 3 team has already labeled their game as the premiere racing game for any console ever (or whatever word they used 10 times during their 3 minute speech. Predominate? Preeminent? Something like that), GT:5 looks like it will be a tough competitor

I was kinda miffed when the GT creator walked off the stage after previewing GT for the PSP, but that fake got me hook line and sinker.

I seen the NASCAR in there as well. Since EA no longer has the rights I guess the only way to get NASCAR racing is GT.

Not entirely true. iRacing (real motor sports simulator) for the PC also has the rights to make a NASCAR game. I don't think the license is exclusive anymore.

The fact that Nascar is going to be in this game just sold me over.
I've been waiting for this game to come out for a while as well as a good nascar game for years and I'm sure that just the nascar portion of this game will be better than any other nascar game made.

This game looks amazing, but who cares. I have every GT game and Prologue, but Microsoft will have released Forza 2 and 3 this generation before we even get a release date on GT5. GT PSP was announced FIVE years ago, and it just now has a release date in October. Who knows, at the moment, it is more likely that GT will compete with Forza 4, so all comparisons are moot.

Rally, Nascar, and Touring. Unreal...if we ever see it.

Something tells me GT5 is going to blow Forza out of the water - funny how some people always mention sales for Halo but not for Forza 2 (almost outsold by GT5 Prologue, less than half the sales of a GT)
And please, let us have some real damage modelling, and not the tacked on Forza stuff where you can slam into a wall at 150 and still drive off!

What the fuck are talking about.....You GT bitches need to really get a grip on shit around here....1st MOST if not all forza players were GT fans. so lets just get that clear....No one is knocking the tracks gt has (obviously im refering to current history of gt)or the cars..its a great game....but on that same token its been the same shit since the 1st one....granted 3 was break through because of the graphics....rally was in the older ones then removed so yes great game....but grow up and live outside your little box. since I grew up on it and have had every one up until the current how the fuck is GT and better than a game that simply has more to offer.....tweaks yes both have millions of them but GT hasnt even done motor swaps and in the early ones you couldnt even choose between supercharging or turbos. And fuck you if you cant appreciate adding bodywork and custom paint. cause in gt you couldnt even change your paint color once you bought the car. Oh no damage this entire time, yea its getting it but after how long...A racing game should be exciting on and off the track which in gt's case it isnt . playing gt prologue was fun but souless. its not really fun you just wanna finish. you could barely hear the motor if your behind view....which makes no fucking sense considering that beside turbo (blowoff/spool) or supercharged whine the bulk of the sound you hear is from the tailpipe. even after making audio adjustments everything just seems quiet. oh and 150 crash and keep going where the fuck did yo see that???? cause most of car is damage to function at that depending on what angle you hit at....have you played a GT game lately how about you can stay parallel with the wall and just bounce on and off not spin out or lose any real speed....until you become very familiar with both games and can make real comparisons then please you and people like you who have no idea what eaches games pro and cons are STFU!

lol halo bashing? haven't seen that before

See here's the difference between GT5 and Forza 3, although GT5 does look like it has more features to it and whatnot, Forza 3 has actually been given a release date and is coming out sometime soon, where GT5 well, no release date, not even at the sony conference, sounds like its got a case of DNF.
