Well, if you believe wikipedia:

"In an April 2008 interview, Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that 150 people had worked on Gran Turismo 5 for four years, with all of Polyphony Digital's 120 employees working on GT5, and the game costing 50 times more to develop than 1997's Gran Turismo"

Better sell really well or it will be a loss. I cant even imagine how much money they have put into this game so far.

Well, the average GT sells about 10-15m, about 4 times as many as Forza, so they can afford to take more time. Plus GT 5 Prologue sold about as many as Forza 2, GT PSP might sell a few million as well, so dont worry about this franchise making a profit.

Apparently this may be the last GT game, so it makes sense to go out with a bang. And better to do a good job rather than do a Halo 3 with sub-par graphics and stale gameplay.

gotta keep in mind, Sony isnt marketing it to as large as an install base as they were. We are talking around 25 million PS3s in homes max, probably closer to around 22.

So your speaking of 50% of all ps3 owners buying this game. Considering how well GT5 prologue did, and yeah, I am a bit concerned.

Even Halo 3 is under 50% of the install base last time I checked, and keep in mind how much marketing MS did for that, with sodas, slurpees, super bowel commerical, etc.

I agree, it would be very hard to touch something that doesn't exist. There is a reason they call if vaporware.

oh my god. i so can't wait to blast the GT-R around Nurburgring, roll a rally car 17 times in one accident, and cause a massive pileup in NASCAR!

I've heard A LOT about GT5.. what I'd like to do is actually... see and play a real game.
Gran Turismo is the Duke Nukem Forever of racing games
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue came out in 2007... it's 2009 now... wtf is this ****?
and if Prologue was any indication of the game... it's pretty but I feel the physics engine has gotten worse. the tires felt like rocks... the cars slid way too much.

Since GT4 came out (Feb 2005), Turn10 will have produced 3 Forza games before GT5 has come out (Forza 1 came out in May 2005, Forza 2 in May 2007, Forza 3 in October 2009)
I mean, seriously...

I used to be such a GranTurismo fanboy, but the waiting game is getting weak

GT1 - May 1998
GT2 - Dec 1999 (and, IMO, GT2 was a HUGE step forward from GT1 and they did it QUICKLY)
GT3 - Jul 2001
GT4 - Feb 2005
GT5 - TBA. Sometime in 2010 my guess.

They didn't USED to take so long to do the games... and now with downloadable updates and content, they shouldn't have to worry about cramming every feature into the release as they can patch or update it later. That's the beauty of next gen systems.
And look at the huge lag time between GT3 and GT4 and they neglected to put in some features (I mean how hard would a drag race have been to compile by the 'geniuses' at Polyphony Digital?)

I expect Motor Toon Grand Prix 3 before GT5 at this point. Polyphony Digital is pissing me off so much these days.

Yeah call me when more than 10% of those 800 cars are relevant track cars.

Have fun with your Daihatsu midgets, pick-up trucks, and billion different variants of Japanese domestic trash.

Ill be busy throwing around the best offerings from Porsche Ferrari, and Lamborgihni.

Cars are cars, the whole purpose of GT is to work your way to the top, not start on day one with a Lambo, if that were the case, I'd buy Burnout or NFS.

that's an instant win for Forza if it has the biggest rooster. GT5 will definitely not have any poultry.

This game looks and feels amazing from the trailers and the gameplay from the prologue. This game features over 900 cars twice as much as Forza Motorsport 3, and just to throw this in the PSP version sports over 800 cars. So xbox fan boys are not that happy right now. This game from the E3 09 trailer shows in the rally portion of the trailer shows a car with damage so in fact this game will have damage. Most people have been asking for this in the game since the first Gran Turismo, originally released for the Playstation in 1997. Also what i found interesting was this game will include "Nascar." I was Shocked when i saw this now the game will sport more driving options for people to play with when the game releases in 2010. All i'm saying is that this game will be the greatest racing game to ever hit store shelves.
