Super Mario Galaxy 2 shown for Wii

Mario's back traversing the galaxy on spherical worlds -- and he's brought an old friend: Yoshi. As in Super Mario World, Mario will ride Yoshi, who can now obtain power-ups of his own, including one that makes him puff up like a balloon. Mario's bee suit will make a return from the first Mario Galaxy as will classic side-scrolling style levels.
So, folks -- are you jazzed, even though we don't have a release date?

I'm surprised, this is cool. Still need to finish the first one.
Sly, King of the First Isle of inFamous [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:31PM
you're honestly surprised? after last year, nintendo knew they had to pack in a ton of good stuff for the core gamers. this and a new zelda game were predicted. golden sun 3? now THAT'S a surprise.
Hel @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:18PM
yeah, no surprises there. Nintendo has a cash cow with 2 udders, with one entirely fed from Mario titles. They're going to be milking the Mario one just as hard, if not harder, than the other one.
MaRRODkez @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:14PM
*face melts
RupeeClock @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:14PM
Nintendo did good.
Nintendo, did, good.
Jerk Face @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:16PM
They did pretty well. Not as good as Microsoft, but not too shabby. This is not my attempt to start a flame war, just my opinion.
Mario Galaxy 2? Cool. Metroid by Team Ninja? Sweeeeet.
phobic99 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:19PM
They did ok, which IMO is slightly less than good. Way better than last year's of course. It's obvious that Nintendo's company focus has shifted which is perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. That's where the other two consoles step in (for me at least).
Meh.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:19PM
Sorry, but no matter how many times you tell yourself that it won't make it true.
Better than last year, but they didn't even show as many core games as MS did yesterday (and they spent most of their conference on Natal and Milo)
4/10 for Ninty this year, better considering last year was a 0/10.
eipxen @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:53PM
I kind of agree with jerkface, but I think nintendo managed to have a pretty exciting keynote anyway
E3 looks like it's off to a great start!
RupeeClock @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:25PM
I think the presentation was plenty good, i'm annoyed they went into depth about something they demo'd LAST YEAR, but they showed a lot of new games i'm interested in, even if some of it's recycled.
Namely Golden Sun DS, Mario and Luigi RPG 3, Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, Wario Ware DIY, Wii Sports Resort, and Woman's Murder Club. (Kidding.)
BananaBoat @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:26PM
I couldn't disagree more. With the exception of Mario Galaxy 2 and the new Metroid, what did they do well? They showed Wii Resort AGAIN as if we hadn't seen it before. They showed a multiplayer Mario, as if lack of co-op was something people were bemoaning about the Mario franchise.
Would Zelda have made their conference a contender for the best conference? No, but it would have helped. Combined with last year, I think that their conference this year cements the idea that they don't need us anymore.
Not showing Zelda was just a punch in the nuts.
ELUNO @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:36PM
Didn't microsoft announce 11 games yesterday?
Metroid
Mario galaxy 2
Mario and Luigi
Golden Sun
Kingdom Hearts
The conduit
Final Fantasy
COP
Resident Evil
Dead Space
Don't know if I missed any, but 10 is almost as good as 11...
Highlar @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:24PM
Eluno, you forgot that they mentioned Red Steel 2, Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods 10, at least those 3 more. :)
Like I said in the blog post, I think Nintendo DID do good...with the announcements. Its the WAY they announced them that fails compared to the other two conferences. Microsoft and Sony are full of flashing lights...heart pounding sound...loud music...lots of GAME FOOTAGE...smoke flowing across the stage...EXCITEMENT. Nintendo announced some great stuff....but they do it in a very staid, boring, dry way. I think that is the biggest problem: they follow the proper, un-exciting Japanese business way of doing it. They need to shift it to a more western approach to their announcements.
Nintendo announced a lot of great stuff...just in a very boring way.
StarStabbedMoon @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:55PM
Sorry tmac, but no matter how many times you tell yourself otherwise, people are entitled to their own opinion.
xGearSecondx @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:14PM
@Eluno
You missed Silent Hill
copa @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:14PM
Thank God. This is what we have been waiting for.
Relase this holiday, or GTFO.
mr mobius @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:25PM
Two Mario games released on the same console at the same time that are both platformers? Not a chance, 2010 Christmas release.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:14PM
This makes the conference for me.
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:37PM
You're so easy to please, aren't you?
B3astofthe3ast @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:14PM
The first Galaxy was superb, and I expect nothing less from this one as well. Hopefully the last boss is a little harder though.
Rodrigo @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:55PM
Yes! Sweet Game....
The only thing that is not so tasty in this game is that AWFUL Music that hurts my ears (and the amazing soundtrack) when u get a Fire/Ice Flower...
man, thats annoying
Wince @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
Meh... I really wanted a new Zelda. Looks like the ol' Wii's going on Craigslist after all.
TwEE @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:18PM
If the new Metroid or the two mario games dosnt convince you to keep it then sell it already..
eipxen @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:53PM
yeah, I'm surprised, too: I really thought they were going to have a new zelda
I still need to get a wii, actually, though, and I'm pretty confident they'll have a new wii zelda eventually
haven't finished twilight princess, though, so I guess I'm not hankering for one as much as you are
Austin @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:19PM
Why the hell game if all you care about is Zelda?
bm @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:27PM
Haha jesus christ, now you're really fucking stretching it. Come the fuck on.
Roto13 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
Super Mario Galaxy is the best game of this generation. I can't wait to play this one.
My computer froze just as they were announcing it. >_> Fucking Vista.
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:34PM
Yeah, yeah, I definitely agree with you.
\sarcasm
The wii is so last gen that galaxy can't even compare to the likes of MGS3 or Halo2.
Roto13 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:36PM
Lol fanboy.
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:38PM
Only a fanboy would say that Galaxy is the best game this generation.
lol
Innagadadavida @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:47PM
Asitaka, you're an idiot and a troll. He was talking about how he's excited about Mario Galaxy 2, then you had to come in and talk about how you think the Wii is last gen. All he did was mention a game and you brought up the console wars. You are the fanboy.
uncle jesse @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:50PM
This is about the announcement for Super Mario Galaxy 2. The first Galaxy was considered game of the year when it was released, competing with THIS generation of games. It's a great game that has people excited for the sequel.
Seriously, what are you doing here? He's saying he likes the game and is excited for the sequel. What's the point of your reply to his comment? Please don't flame.
MaRRODkez @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:11PM
Kinda funny to see that douchebag be such a dick when he was all self-righteous to me in another thread - http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/24/behold-the-vacant-stare-of-the-chun-li-action-figure/comments/19003082/
Hey douchebag, take some of your own advice why dontya?
Vcize @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:47PM
I actually liked SM64 a LOT more than Galaxy, which I guess says more about the awesomeness of SM64 than it does about the deficiencies of Galaxy.
Still though, this isn't a case like Halo 1 vs. Halo 3 where Halo 1 was better for its time than Halo 3 is for it's time, but it's not a better game straight up. SM64 is actually a better game straight up, as in if I were asked to pick which of the two I could play on my modern console I would pick SM64.
Ashitaka @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:33PM
You've just been holding that link since the day I told you how to behave properly, haven't you?
Seriously, your comment made my laugh xD
Austin @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
I'm glad Yoshi is back at what he does best.
charlie b. @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
too soon.
charlie b. @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:36PM
in your hearts, you know i'm right.
ThatPCgameryouhate @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
It seems Nintendo is trying to gain back a bit of the "true" gamer crowd. I just hope Super Mario Galaxy 2 is enough of a difference that it stands out from the first game- however Nintendo usually pulls that off rather well, so I'm excited.
mr mobius @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:30PM
I suspect it could be to Galaxy what Sunshine was to 64 - still amazing but less of a sensory shock and more of an adaptation.
Baalzak @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:19PM
I sure hope not. Sunshine was quite a disappointment for me - I had to actually force myself to finish the game.
I LOVED Galaxy, and even if the second one is just more of the same, I'd enjoy it all over again.
Craig @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:16PM
What were they gonna do, show off 3rd party support? Galaxy 2 was... logical.
ishaan55 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:20PM
nintendo: finally we have third party support(kinda)
ArchiGamer @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:16PM
I was losing interest in the beginning, but this and Metroid....I'm happy....
deaftly @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:15PM
Pretty bad conference overall again for Nintendo, but Galaxy 2 and Metroid looked pretty sweet
Jerk Face @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:17PM
Agreed, but these guys are going to downvote the SHIT out of us! : )
Wince @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:18PM
I concur.
uncle jesse @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:58PM
No downvotes here. I agree. It was pretty 'meh' overall. I'm pumped for a bunch of games but the actual presentation could have been much, much better. They have a good list of games coming out but they put too much emphasis on things they shouldn't have. Seriously, vitality monitor?
Shagittarius @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:16PM
Had enough Galaxy the first time around. Should have been DLC.
ishaan55 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:22PM
nintendo does not know what DLC is
