yeah, I'm confident that scene is from the game engine. It basically looks like XI just shinier. Still early and it's not like MMOs are known for their graphics anyhow.

Yep, CGI usually is.

Blizzard has some AWESOME cinematics for WOW, but it don't look like that when you play it.

Hopefully they'll remedy some of the shortcomings that made FFXI a bit too much of a tedious chore when reaching higher levels.

If it makes you feel happy
I heard it's supposed to be less of a LFG LFG LFG mob killing grind fest, and more of a WoW type xp system of xp from quests. So you won't be totally dependent on 5 others to level up anymore, you can go off and run solo quests. Then obviously the raid type groups for epic encounters.

If that is true it will be enough to get me to buy the game. I like the universe of FFXI...but MAN if that game wasn't punishing. Especially the XP hit you took from dying. I remember trying to solo at like level 25 or something and I lost nearly two hours of my life in XP from dying ONCE! That is horrid.

I don't think they could possibly add more audience members without addressing that issue first and foremost. People don't like moving backwards. Most people just don't have the time for it. Not to mention the patience for the slow grindfest and absolute dependance that game had on partying up with others.

Most MMOs these days realize there is a large chunk of people who like the fact that there are lots of live bodies in the world, but don't necessarily always want to play alongside all of them. Lord of the Rings Online is one of the better examples of a current MMO that is solo friendly.

Why not? The story is just as deep/good as the single player FFs, from what I've heard.

AAaaaanyway, looking so forward to this.

I agree, I hate that the online ones are in the numbered series. Damn, I am a really disappointed, because the setting and characters looked to possibly make a great single player FF, but this is another FF I will not play now, and now I have to wait even longer for the next real FF game.

By the way, the music in that trailer seemed pretty cheap and mediocre. I hope that is not indicative of the music for the game. Although I don't really care, because I will not play FFXIV.

How does it possibly affect you though? It's not like you're going to miss out on the *real* FFXIV because of this, you'll just play FFXV when it comes out. I don't like FFVII just because of the VII in the title.

It affects me because they are spending precious time developing a game that I have no desire to play. In other words, this news is basically that the next FF game is going to be delayed at least an extra 2 years.

They can have as many spinoffs as they want, I don't care, but it bugs me that they are whoring out the main numbered series. It's like if the Superbowl next year, had a soccer game instead of a football game and called it Superbowl 44 and had no football game whatsoever. It would piss a lot of people off. I personally wouldn't care because I don't like football or soccer, but I understand that people would get mad.

@Marrvia, They aren't wasting time on this game that could be spent on something else because it's an entirely different design team. If you check the official page on the game you will see that the director is the same guy that is in charge of FFXI. He has his own people that have nothing to do with the single player games. That's the whole reason this game will be able to launch the same year as FFXIII. There will be an entirely different team working on FFXV that won't be hindered in any way by FFXIV. I mean this should be obvious. The current MMO is 7 years old with 4 expansions and 3 smaller mission expansions. Do you think the same team could have been doing all that while making FFXII and FFXIII? Obviously not.

So if you don't think an FF MMO isn't worthy of being a "numbered" entry in the series, don't treat it like one. It's coming out around the same time as FFXIII and is being done by an entirely different team than that of the main series - the same team who created FFXI Online, in fact - so it's not like you can say they "wasted" their team making this game.

I still think you naysayers should keep an open mind and at least TRY the game. FFXI was amazing with a great storyline for those who cared to follow it, and if XIV improves upon that game's formula with more solo-oriented material as well as the things that made parties so satisfying, I'd be happy to give them the money I'm currently spending on my WoW subscription. I just hope they're keeping the job change system; that was my favorite thing about FFXI, being able to switch to a different job to quest with a friend of mine just starting the game or just for a change of pace without rolling an alt.

Touche, Saria. Touche.

Otherwise, like those above me said, it's not the same team, and they're still making the game whether you prefer it be called FFXIV or FFMMOII or FFOMGWTFBBQ.

Face it, their numbering system is basically arbitrary. There's no reason they couldn't have just sequentially numbered every FF game they ever made, from X-2 to Tactics to Crystal Chronicles to the FFVII compilation collection. In that case we'd be at FFLXVI or something. These numbers mean nothing, and should be interpreted as that. I understand there is this idea of the main series, but what the main series has meant has changed over time (varying gameplay, consoles, graphics type, setting, etc.).

If you want, tell me when you buy FFXV and I'll come over to your house and draw a little I in between, and you can pretend that none of this ever happened.

@marrvia: the music is an arrangement of the theme of final fantasy, and considering this is the first trailer and most people's first taste of FF14, they probably used something familiar to make a bigger impact. you're damn right you don't know if the music is indicative of the whole soundtrack. it's 2 minutes long.

incidentally, nobuo uematsu is the music director for this game (from http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/). does that name sound familiar to you? probably not, considering your taste in music.

I think the problem with having them numbered like the main games is that... they're not the same as the main games.

It wouldn't have been a problem if Final Fantasy XI was called Final Fantasy Online and XIV called Final Fantasy Online 2 or something like that. They should be distinct from the other games the same way Final Fantasy Tactic and Crystal Chronicles are because of how different they are from the other games.

I wouldn't want two FF games in the main series right after one another, it would make me feel like it was rushed. Plus it would burn a whole in my pocket :/, but I don't think the online games should be numbered.

The second he said "final fantasy XIV" my comp messed up and I had to restart it. I almost threw it out a window, lol.

Btw, FF VII and medal of honor is now on the PS store.

So it's not about consoles, I hated FF Online on the Xbox as well.

So Serp, you're stupid to think that, especially after posting on my other comment as well, which proved what I've just restated.

I've been playing WoW for 3 years now , but for the last 4 months I've been playing less and less of it , maybe it's time for a new mmorpg .

FFXIV looks extremely interesting , hope it's not far from FFXIII's release .

@proteus zero : I believe playing almost any good mmorpg out there most of the time feels like a chore .

Hang in there man because Blizzards new mmo should be announced soon! Hopefully, they will announce it at Blizzcon, but I love WoW even tho sometimes I have to take a break when I get burnt out.

Right, it's sort of the nature of MMOs. There's not an infinite amount of content. If you play regularly you'll max out a character in a couple months, leaving you to grind raids, daily quests, or PvP. Or roll up a new character and do it all over again.

My personal tendency is to swap between MMOs every now and again. There's a lot of good stuff out there and never enough time to play it all. Also, most games offer semi-regular content updates, so you can often just come back when there's new stuff.

No I thought of the same thing to be honest. The PS3 is going into uncharted territory with lots of MMO's this year and next year. It will be interesting to see how they all work out with a console. I'm kind of digging this megaton. This was really the biggest megaton of the E3 conferences. I guess the Metal Gear Rising being on the 360 could be as well but we didn't know what the game was until it was announced.

Sony stole the show in my opinion ... Kind of cool they shows real time demos of three games announced at last years E3 (Uc 2, MAG & GoW 3) and hopefully it's a trend that will continue. Oh and Uncharted 2 FTW. I'm going to be on at midnight checking it out for realz.

I'm also looking forward to this.
I haven't played FFXI Online cause I don't own a Xbox360,
but this, I will definitely like to try it out.
But I do understand some feel disappointed about it (FF to be a MMO).
Because everybody has their own taste.
I personally don't like WoW, although its really a blockbuster title for western countries :p

Oh, by the way, people who don't like MMO's,
remember we still have an exclusive FFXIII versus,
which Mr.Nomura says the taste of it is more like the FF in the old days, like FFVII.
I'm surely looking forward to FFXIII too though :)

I don't think MMO's survive very well on 360.. could be partly because of the gold fee.. I only play Phantasy Star Universe 2 months, I could never get a party for being low level (and it being close to a ghost town), it seems, that you need to join at the start or not at all.. So I played other games.. FFXI looked too out of date, and the beta ended before I got online so I missed out..
