Heh, and I was joking about that with my friends last night saying something like "what...is this gonna be exclusive to the surface table or something?"
Now, where can I get $15,000 and a living room about twice the size of mine so I can put that mammoth table....

I don't understand why all the bad rap about this stuff. Sure there's a huge expensive touch-table out there. Sure there's this new RTS game coming out. Oh gee, look, it happens to be playable on that very same table as well! BUT It can still be played on other stuff! LETS COMPLAIN ABOUT AN EXPENSIVE TABLE BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD SUCH AN AWESOME THING, AND THE ONLY WAY TO DEAL WITH SUCH A LOSS AND ENVY IS TO TURN TO BULLYING THE THOUGHTS AND IDEAS OF HAVING IT?!
Seriously, grow up.
I think it looks amazing! I wish I had the money for it, because if I did, I would totally get it. Looks incredibly fun and innovative.

Despite the fact you're a Mr. ESC and thus an idiot, I'll reply to your statement.
You may think it's overpriced, but you still want one, if it was offered for free, you'd take it and most likely use it, so your point is moot.

Some people clearly lack vision. Just like every other piece of tech that has been released, it will drop in price, it will be mass-produced, and it will be awesome. Seriously, maybe companies should just stop making futuristic shit so idiots who don't understand how technology works won't whine about cost.
I hope you get banned again, Mr Esc. Don't come back this time.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news... or good in this case, but the military already uses this system with heavy modification as a military tactical display... you may have seen evolutions of it in shows and games such as Halo Wars, and ODST, and a few others...
Hint: It's the tactical display map, the one that has 3d capabilities, while the military version doesn't YET... it's the first step to inciting a holographic advancement, and a more detailed look at battlefields, which can be instantly generated via satellite scans and then uploaded to the systems...
Indeed such systems have NO USE... it's not like the government ever spent 15000 dollars on anything, oh wait most advanced weapons cost at least 4000 dollars for the government, the OICW cost 30,000 for just one... 15000 for battlefield display maps with another 2000 for advanced programming and modifications... it's a template sure but it's very advanced and very effective.
Indeed such a waste of money, what will battlefield commanders do next?
Oh but wait there's more... the restaurants in very wealthy locations have already begun using it as advertised... this means that eventually it will be reduced in price and compartmentalized and that means that more places will use it, until eventually something like this will cost 400 - 1000 dollars, like a TV...
Oh my... but wait THERE'S MORE!!!
Graphs remarkably are BRILLIANT when looked DOWN upon, not towards, but DOWN... and this allows for much more mathematical calculation displays, and of course this can advance into science itself, as well as charts and businesses.
The NEW CHART which means success, is the Surface Table, which ironically would equal a degree of success.
But as shown in the Ruse Trailer, it's very possible that the next chessboard becomes the surface table, in time...
---
Who's the hillbilly now?
I take offense at that though.

Way too many posts...
Okay then, understand the military uses this for one reason, battle-field mapping, you don't put a chair or a circle as a map, you put a map, generally on a table, and while this won't work for haphazard set ups, it will work for outposts and designated bases, and the reason it's so important that they use this is because if the military sees use in battlefield mapping via LCD's they will pay close attention to the holographic market (which has begun to be researched into) and that will allow for actual levels of mapping on flat surfaces, which will eventually allow for 3d structuring, and eventually at the peak, will result in holographic maps of a purely 3 dimensional level, perhaps even without the table itself.
It's not that the surface is a table that matters, it's that it is a platform which the military feels comfortable using, and that it brings ease into the concept that it's a futuristic map display. The technology aspect allows for instant updates, relaying, and essentially End War and Halo Wars-esque computing, scaling, and planning as seen in the cinematics.
Most sci-fi technology becomes feasible, and without this step we'll have to wait for another innovation to appear, and they'll make a platform off of that.

Wow, you're really entrenched in your opinion on this one. I see you don't like quotes, so how about an analogy? When "personal" computers first came out, they were really expensive, and a lot of people said they would never be useful in the home and that they were really only needed for engineers, etc. Yet here we are today, led into a new information age by visionaries, and computers are affordable and everywhere.
Perhaps the reason no one has given you a compelling home use for these is because that's what fortunes are made of. Someone comes up with a great idea and then sells it. But imagine if this was a lot more affordable. It could replace your current coffee table, and you could show off your photos (instead of a your coffee table photo book) or you could play games (instead of that closet of board games you have). These are just extensions of what has been demoed, so I realize it's nothing groundbreaking, but if the cost difference was minimal, I would choose one of these tables over a normal table. Or maybe you could use this in conjunction with a traditional computer, allowing you to do some tasks (like organization, which looks way easier when doing it with two hands and a huge space instead of a mouse and traditional computer hierarchy). I don't know, I haven't played with one, let alone tried to develop for one, but I'm sure someone will come up with good ideas for it.
Basically, stop crying about the $15,000 price tag, it makes it look like you have no idea how technology is developed or progresses. When this actually becomes a viable option for the home consumer, it will cost less.

Surface has been in wide circulation to deliver presentations for TV studios. CNN has used it regularly as have some other stations. It was used extensively around election time.
This thing will be the norm in the Weather industry in the next 3 years and will replace the old projectors.
If I could only have Starcraft 2 on this badboy!

I bet this took minimal effort to implement, and might have even involved some "encouragement" from Microsoft to use as a demonstration tool. Though I can see it being cool for Ubisoft also, as they can showcase it with the ultimate control scheme at events or whatever.
