Watch Neversoft play Guitar Hero 5 on a stage in LA
Though the plastic peripheral performance was a bit less than enthralling -- especially considering the fact that we just watched an actual musical performance -- we've been promised a DJ Hero performance up next. And yes, video is forthcoming!

Just watched it with no sound (in work). The performers seemed to be enjoying themselves though.
The drop-in/drop-out feature looked pretty cool. The only thing I couldn't tell was whether it allowed a full 4 instruments (not including vocals) on the screen. They did it once but then went back down to 3 pretty quickly.
At least it'll end all the "but I wanted to play the guitar!" arguments.

ARE YOU A RODIE OR A HIPPIE????
Spike @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:31AM
as long as there is a good tracklist, and isn't abandoned in 3 months, i may pick it up when the price goes down
Ad-man @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:39AM
They definitely lost one of the drums half way through :-/ I was really hoping I wouldn't have to buy this GH but party-play wise it's starting to look like a necessity...

Ok, I'll admit, I'm not into Guitar Hero/Rockband (the songs get stuck in my head too easily and never leave), but when did I miss the release of Guitar Hero 4?
Kevin Kelly @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:59AM
Guitar Hero 4 was Guitar Hero: World Tour. I know, it's a bit wonky, but just think Tour = Four.

I'm pretty intrigued by the drop-in/drop-out feature. It's almost enough to take the bad taste of Wolfmother out of my mouth.
Almost.
yo Naturale @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:42PM
I can't hear or read the name Wolfmother without thinking of Mike Patton (AKA former Faith No More vocalist who did the voicework for the zombies in Left 4 Dead).
Specifically, where he was being interviewed at a musical festival and Wolfmother is playing in the background, and he derails the exchange to state into the camera, "Wolfmother... you SUCK."

So T = F, that means tuck equals...Nip/Tuck should have never been allowed to air based on its title alone!
Ghen @ Jun 2nd 2009 6:32AM
bad joke.
Robert Maynard @ Jun 2nd 2009 6:29AM
Far less embarassing than that original demo of World Tour with Paula Abdul and Tony Hawk. Showed off the drop-in/out feature to great dramatic effect. Aaaand still not getting it. :P

GUITAR HERO METALLICA was close to a perfect music game.
Activision needs to make some fix in GUITAR HERO 5 to achieve greatness.
1- Better menu layout, with album cover so that it be easier to navigate
2- GH Tunes should be on another sub menu
3- Guitar solos should be rewarded just like in Rock Band 2
Thankfully all DLC from WORLD TOUR will work with GH5 so thats a plus.
clif @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:27PM
hmmm.... i know a music game that has all the features that you want to add to gh5. and i agree almost all those things annoy me in ghwt (as well as no menu "quick search" like in RB).
I have GHWT and RB and i just had 8 people over to play both of them this weekend and none of us wished for a drop in drop out feature... and after seeing it i still don't.
sorry.
KIMP @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:16PM
I know Rock Band 2 have these features I want, and I'm a RB2 fan
but unlike most I prefer the note charts in the Guitar Hero franchise then Rock Band.
I'm a guitarist/bassist who had multiple bands, did shows and actually even teach music for a couple of years and I personally find the note charts in GH to be more "accurate", especially in Guitar Hero Metallica.
I also prefer the GH graphics more then RB. On the Wii, GHWT looks simply much better then RB2.
RB2 is actually easier then GHWT.
Another thing that bugs me about GH is the poor DLC selection... come on Activision!
And I dont mind swapping disc, makes me stand up from time to time!
AAHhahahaHHA!

This looks like a lot of the same to me. However the setlist does seem pretty good e.g. Johnny Cash, Queen, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Blur, Peter Frampton, Tom Petty and David Bowie. Also I like the character models more now.
I might have to pick it up when it becomes cheaper. Just the game though, I'll play it with my Beatles instruments.
oolz @ Jun 2nd 2009 7:33AM
the ability to drop in and out of the game at will is now a big E3 selling point? I guess it has to be when your last game's UI was a complete party killer. How about some actual innovation to the genre?? Oh wait, but that would slow your dev cycle to a game a year.. can't do that. Oh, but you can play GHWT DLC in this. mmmmmm, five more good songs.
Hafkie @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:47AM
I count six Hendrix songs right off the bat. The Death Magnetic album is very fun to play also. Then you have songs from Queen. Hot Blooded and Jessie's Girl. Oasis's Dig Out Your Soul album. Packs from Smashing Pumpkins, The Raconteurs, R.E.M., Wings, The Eagles, Steely Dan, Motorhead, Nirvana, and more. Also, 12 free songs.
But no, there are no good songs as WT DLC.
Kdiggy @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:19AM
*snore* Do they still make this games?
Rickmanx @ Jun 2nd 2009 10:35AM
The drop in/out feature is cool and will be great at parties, but I'm more stoked about the ability to play whatever instrument you want! Want 4 lead guitars? Sure! This is gonna be a major high point for my friends at parties.
Plus the individual star power, support for world tour DLC, and auto adjusting of difficulty is sweet too.
The Commenter Formerly Known as (kbomb1upc) @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:52AM
I still want to know if you can play the songs off of the GH:WT disk with out having to swap? If not, its still Rock Band for me....
