Ehh, well you can only pull a Halo Wars on your casual fans so many times before they catch on and stop buying your games. Not surprised at all this is another FPS.

Rehashing gameplay you say? My word!

You can't ever really change the gameplay in a franchise without extreme fan hate. They did in Zelda 2 and in the US Mario 2 (yes, a different game with Mario mapped over it but still different gameplay). And everyone hates those games the most.

But then everyone also wants something new and not the same "stale" gameplay. I guess there's no winning.

With a strong franchise, drastic changes can sometimes upset the fans.

Just like nipples, sometimes tweaks are sufficient.

Subtle changes that improve upon the series' previous games is sometimes enough. Stray too far from the core mechanics of what made it a hit and people become skeptical. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With that being said, when people start getting bored, then you might need to mix things up a bit.

back in the day i had kind of hoped that ODST would be a third-person tactical shooter. it would be stupid with a spartan as the main character, but it would work well with ODSTs.

Hmm, I thought for sure it would be something different.
If it is an FPS, then why is there a beta for the multiplayer in ODST? What can be so different about this game that it needs a seperate beta from Halo's multiplayer?

Bungie had a Beta for Halo 3 even though there was online multiplayer in Halo 2... and they even changed a few things (powered down the carbine and needler. Made the Warthog less nigh-invulnerable - oddly, its Beta weakness being the landmines that are now fairly useless).

heh, second, maybe. . .. BUT

"We found them"

Who on earth would care if they found "them" unless they are referring to someone who we all care for and love? Something bad happening to the earth when they find "them" maybe they aren't the only ones on the "destructed" ship. Lets wait to find out but that's what I got from the clip at E3 - and I am too excited to find out exactly what it's going to be about.

Bro, it's a prequel about the Fall of Reach, which occurred just prior to Halo 1. Multiple Spartans.

The story of Reach occurs immediately before the evens of Halo. When you see the pillar of Autumn jumping in at the beginning of Halo:CE it is jumping to a random point in space away from orbit of Reach so the covenant can't track them.

Reach was to the UNSC what Pearl Harbour was to the Americans during WW2. It was a military stronghold that quite frankly nobody expected to be attacked let alone fall. During the events at reach there are several Spartans that are assigned to protect power generators on earth while a select few are sent to protect a cargo ship in orbit around Reach that contains the jump location for earth which the covenant don't know yet. Master Chief is one of the Spartans assigned to protect the cargo ship.

This means that if the game does take place on the planet of Reach, you will not be playing as Master Chief, nor will you likely even encounter him in the game, BUT you will probably be playing as a Spartan of some kind, and will see several important characters in the Halo universe (ie. Captain Keyes, Cortana, etc.)

Hope this helps.

Huey, just to continue one from what you were saying, there is a lot of potential for this game, granted the entire battle at Reach was mostly in orbit. The ground engagements were very scarce and short by the time the SPARTANS even landed on the surface. I'm hoping that this game will in turn cover a large portion of the storyline, from the beginning of the SPARTAN-II program and the training ops created by CPO Mendez, all the way up to the events of First Strike (since the events of Reach did continue on past the Autumn's slipspace jump away from Reach.

I'm sure we will see the Master Chief, he was part of the zero-gee operation to retrieve valuable data that could not fall into the Covenants hands, would make for an interesting mission, and with the shieldless missions we are gonna get in Halo 3: ODST, it will provide us some idea of what gameplay for earlier Spartan training ops will be like. But it will be nice to see some of the characters like Fred, Linda, Kelly, Will, and even Sam make their way into the games themselves. Lots of potential for what they can do with this game.

Why are you attacking us? All they were doing was clarifying what the game was going to be about. Nobody attacked you so why are you attacking them? Plus, it's not like these story elements haven't been known for 8 years now (The Fall of Reach novel released right before Halo 1 launched in 2001)

@Huey2k2

Well it wasn't exactly a random jump from Reach's orbit that landed the Autumn near Halo, was it? Didn't they use the coordinates from some crystal that Master Chief stole from the Covenant earlier in the story?

FPS begins with a vowel sound, so 'an' is correct. Much like it's 'an hour' and not 'a hour'.

It's either "an FPS" or "a first person shooter". "a FPS" is acceptable, but "an" is still correct. The only improper way to say it, in fact, would be "an first person shooter".
