peripherals galore.
not sure how i feel about this
Hafkie @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:41PM
I'm pretty sure it's just the same mat and you don't have to buy a new one. (This mat is just easier to rationalize that they have diagonal arrows)
kevinski @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:04PM
Nah, the front left and front right tiles are the only corner tiles that're buttons on current DDR pads. This is kinda disappointing, because I plan on eventually getting an Xbox 360, but I recently purchased metal DDR mats that're obviously now obsolete. D'oh!
sam @ Jun 4th 2009 7:18AM
@kevinski - hm really? Pretty sure mine has all eight buttons, and I thought that was common with a lot of previous third-party pads.
@current state of DDR: yeah, I still occasionally play StepMania with all the old tunes...
Ideally, Konami would:
a) Keep licensed tracks to none or a minimum. If any, they should be picked so they're actually danceable and work well in the game, rather than being 'something random Konami can afford that happens to be quite popular in the mainstream'.
b) Make sure they're selling a platform and not a game - hopefully tracks on the disc, but definitely downloadable ones, need to be guaranteed compatible with future versions [obviously without having whatever extra features might appear in those future versions]. So buying a new DDR game needs to be 'oh cool, 100 more tracks' and not 'oh bugger, 100 tracks but i can't play the old ones any more without rebooting into some old version of the game'.
c) Provide a decent number of tracks. 50 isn't be terrible but if they're all licensed, meaning at least two-thirds are probably horrid (which two-thirds depends slightly on personal opinion etc)? Okay, that's now looking weak.
and finally
d) Not use 8 buttons ffs

only 50 songs?
shoan @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:42PM
The better the milk your bank account with DLC my little pretties.
Reeve @ Jun 4th 2009 7:22AM
Note that that's 50 "licensed tracks". There'll probably be a ton of Konami Originals to go along with those, as usual.
Tehman @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:41PM
Octo-mom will dominate this shit......
Kn1ves @ Jun 4th 2009 5:55AM
I only had two feets on the regular DDR with four squares..
Don't I only need four feets for one with eight squares?
/down votes self

Roofie @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:42PM
So 50 songs on the disc but 150 available for download on day one... why not put more of them on the fucking disk, you jackasses!?
P @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:35PM
How about because songs arent free.
Every song has royalties attached, they'll have to pay say $0.50 for every song. The fact that you get 50 free means $25 of the cost covers the songs included.
Now, if you want 100 free songs, then someone has to pay for them, and you'd be bitching a whining more if the game was $25 more than regular retail price.
Why do people struggle to understand sometimes its just not financially viable to give away things for free, because its costing someone money. Whether thats the music industry royalties for GH/RB, covering the cost of making additional maps for Killzone2, or **SOME** other types where there are geniune costs involved in making it, which make it impossible to give it away simply cos some whiney bitches think because its already done for launch then it HAS to be included on the disc.
I've only ever bought LBP's MGS pack and Monsters Encore when it comes to DLC, im not its biggest fan, but people like yourself need to accept sometimes things cant be free just cos its there.
brettjr @ Jun 4th 2009 12:25PM
@P
You're right but what you say doesn't apply to this situation and is actually the opposite.
The game comes with 50 licensed tracks which they have to pay royalties but the classic ddr songs that are going to be available for download are the original songs such as candy and midnite blaze.
So the situations is kinda backwards.
pickleman77 @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:46PM
Err, by that logic, I'd need 4 feet to play it regularly...
Sp1der X @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:46PM
there was a game a long time a ago called Techno-something that had an 8 arrow dance pad. it failed miserably, and DDR is starting to lose its appeal, in my opinion at least. i don't think this'll help get new players either, it'll probably scare them away even more.
Laser123454321 @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:59PM
Good Eye: http://gamesroom.union.rpi.edu/TechnoMotion.jpg
from the TechnoMotion page on Wiki
"echnoMotion has three distinct gameplay modes:
Cross mode: Uses the left, right, up, and down panels (like Dance Dance Revolution).
Diagonal mode: Uses the corner and center panels (like Pump It Up).
TechnoMotion mode: Uses all panels except the center.
Double mode (both sides), only in 4- and 5-panel modes. There is no 16-panel mode.
It is possible to change the panel mode between and during songs in the game with switches on the cabinet. A player has the option to play in Single mode (one player, one pad) or Versus mode (two players, two pads). There are four difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Double(one player, both pads). Each difficulty has a separate songlist, and each pattern is rated with 1 to 12 small diamond icons."
So it was a bit more versitle than this new pad. But thats given the fact that the Diagional arrows + center button are probably copyrighted by the company that develops Pump It Up.
Riley @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:00PM
starting to?
i haven't heard the words "dance dance revolution" in like 3 years
DrunkenPandaren @ Jun 4th 2009 2:51PM
Technomotion was big in Korea afaik.
adamantypants @ Jun 4th 2009 5:27AM
I used to be a HEAVY DDR/ITG/Pump player. As in, I lost 30 pounds playing it. (side note, since I've stopped playing I've gained it all back).
I live in Vegas and the nearby Excalibur Hotel had an arcade that had an ITG, Pump, and Technomotion machine that I was able to get free credits on. I play on the hardest modes on PIU, ITG/DDR and playing the 8 panel mode on Technomotion on an equvalent medium difficulty sent my brain through a loop. I'll be surprised if Konami can pull this off.
Rob Accomando @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:47PM
Hmm. I see "Dance Party Hero" in the horizon.
Just buy 9 mats to fill the room and ad a disco ball.
isItjustme @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:48PM
Clearly, I cannot be the only that read, "will also INCLUDE 50 licensed tracks," meaning there will be more than 50 songs from the getgo...
Roofie @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:00PM
I read that as it being what they would include along with the dance pad, considering that was the focus of the post leading up to that point. I could be wrong (obviously) but I'm not sure it's completely clear what they mean.
Heh @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:00PM
Anyone got a price tag? This would be sweet to give my friend as a joke birthday-gift (He's a DDR nut).
SourceJR @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:31PM
umm how is giving someone who likes DDR the new DDR game a joke gift. ... htats like saying you like god of was well i got you god of war 3 ha ha.
SourceJR @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:32PM
oh by the way i cant spell for shit. : (
Hydrophobicfish @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:47PM
It's not really like that. It's like someone who liked the original NES giving them a Wii now.
The Wii is a completely different beast, totally unrecognizable from the NES, even though it's by the same people.
KeegdnaB @ Jun 4th 2009 12:08AM
Oh sup re-branded Pop'n Stage
emperorzeroxx @ Jun 4th 2009 1:33AM
aah sweet this should be interesting... would be kinda cool if they had the middle button as they have in pump it up. Also I hope there is an option to just do four arrows just in case the other mode is annoying...although It's definitely worth trying, and plenty of DLC is never a bad thing!
Windmill @ Jun 4th 2009 2:10AM
PLEASE LET IT BE RELEASED IN PAL COUNTRIES.
Shadowman @ Jun 4th 2009 2:58AM
So its Solo mode but with more annoyance.
DDR was upstaged ages ago with ITG, and then PIU Pro (Which was ITG but with Pump it ups pad.)
I was talking about the licensing issue with the other Mods at DDRUK, and I still think its insane that Rock Band can get 80 odd tracks on the disk, whilst most DDR releases tend to have 25 to 50 (With a few more locked away as DLC.) Konami haven't done a fan service DDR mix in years (Not since Extreme) and Supernova and Universe have been utter jokes.
I'm waiting on more details and some DLC Pricing before I consider shelling out on this.
mgsrocks1 @ Jun 4th 2009 2:57AM
*Reads title* That's what she said?
jarhead906 @ Jun 4th 2009 2:58AM
Finally. A DDR game for PS3. Looks like the eight directions are going to rock every DDR master's mind.
Clark Kant @ Jun 4th 2009 7:00AM
Awesome, will buy.
But only if...
The mat is completely wireless
The mat is made of quality material
The game is HD
TheCoats @ Jun 4th 2009 10:08AM
did someone say 8 arrows.......wasn't there a mode in DDR that let you play 8 arrows but on 2 pads - oh yeah thats right
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roeedhX4M8U
Shadowman @ Jun 4th 2009 12:55PM
Doubles mode has been around for yonks, this more like Solo mode which was around for 2 arcade mixes. Doubles is going to be eaiser than 8 panel play which is bound to have awful Cross overs and spins, Mark my word if "Can't stop falling in love ~Speedy mix~" make's an appearance, the initial cross overs are going to be HELL.
Schlagwerk @ Jun 8th 2009 2:47PM
This is awful.
GorillazAreTheBest @ Jun 28th 2009 11:20AM
Is it out yet?
