Kratos seeking vengeance in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny
Namco Bandai must have an entire department dedicated to finding new ways and characters to market with its Soulcalibur brand. Following last year's ballet with the Force, the company has announced that God of War's Kratos will be taking out his frustration on the cast of Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny for the PSP.
What with all of his disemboweling and afternoons on the links, we honestly don't know how everyone's favorite Spartan with a chip on his shoulder fits bickering with Soulcalibur brawlers into his busy schedule. Nevertheless, the Ghost of Sparta will appear as a guest character in the miniaturized fighter. We just hope he's on his best behavior while in someone else's house when Broken Destiny ships later this summer.
See the trailer after the break.

sigh
Dave @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:37PM
It can only be a true Soul Calibur game if Ivy's breasts get bigger.
j.howlett @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:08AM
if only i had gotten the GOW psp. it'll work with a black psp 3000 though
ben @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:09AM
hmm
very impressive graphics though
JayVe @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:18AM
The graphics should be decent. Soul Calibur first appeared in 1999, and looked at least this good. There is no reason why the PSP can't handle Dreamcast level graphics, as evidenced by the numerous Dreamcast ports like Power Stone and Crazy Taxi.
McKeyDee @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:19AM
Please don't tell me that's his sword. He should use the blades.
rohan @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:25AM
did u even check the screens shots? he has Zeus's blade, his blades and Icarus's wings
baby sea tuna @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:26AM
Looks like he has the Athena blades in one of the other pix.
CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:20AM
Master Chief up next? Zelda? Mario?
Arikado @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:28AM
Link was actually in the gamecube version of Soul Calibur II.
BTW, this is awesome news :D
fred @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:35AM
dante? he certainly has enough weapons
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:02AM
What? In the PSP version?
Ezio Auditore de Firenze [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 3rd 2009 3:07PM
dante was in viewtiful joe: red hot rumble. that was an awesome cameo. so, so awesome.
psdeuce @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:50PM
Kratos kills gods and titans... the other Soulcalibur fighters are done for!
Rollins @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:46AM
At least Kratos kind of fits into the SC environment. Vader and Yoda stuck out like extremely sore thumbs.
CJLopez @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:33PM
Vader, Yoda and Starkiller
there, fixed
Storm Eagle @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:50AM
Hey Kratos! Get back to your game! You've got a March release to make!
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:53AM
Kinda off-topic, I know, but "Kratos disemboweling" reminds me of "Kotaku disemvoweling."
Man, how I hate that shit.
uncle jesse @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:54AM
Okay, they've got me twice already. Link in the GC version was a purchase just for him and I can admit that they got me with the last SC. Including the Star Wars universe in the game was a dirty, dirty move that I'm sure hooked a couple suckers like myself.
But, can this stop already? Just throwing random characters into the SC world that don't make any sense whatsoever that don't even look like they belong together. Honestly, imagine SF4 had Marcus Fenix or someone in it, just for shits?
Alright, alright, maybe that would've been cool. So what point was I trying to make again? Ah nevermind....
Storm Eagle @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:05AM
I believe what you were trying to say is that you really are a sucker for random character placement and that you'll be definitely buying this game.
uncle jesse @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:06AM
I hate myself
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:10AM
That would just be lame, characters need to at least have swords or traditional weapons other then guns.
Master Chief could just about appear if he was using the light sword he steals from the brutes, but other then that, he wouldn't look good in Soul Calibur. Personally I didn't much like Vadar and Yoda in it either, it's only because it was multiplat they did that, otherwise it would have probably had Kratos and Nariko (Heavenly Sword) which would have fit into the game perfectly.
Even pit from Nintendo with Marth and Ike would have looked good in this game.
Xbox hasn't got anyone I can think of that would fit into that genre.
uncle jesse @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:13AM
It wasn't Master Chief, but remember there was a Spartan in DOA?
ottoman673 @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:15AM
@Maverick Saturn: IIRC there was a spartan [i don't recall if it was Master Chief or not] in Dead or Alive 4.
Doubt that any halo-branded characters will show up on SC.
Snowblind @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:22AM
If they ever include a Halo character, they should go with the Arbiter. He at least uses a sword and would *kind of* fit in.
I didn't think the Star Wars characters were that bad an idea, but it just made me want a proper Star Wars fighting game, rather than playing as a few of them in SC.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:23AM
I remember DOA Spartan, but thats DOA, not Soul Calibur. Soul Calibur takes on a old age empires look. Knights, Ninjas, Katanas, Swords, Heavy Armour, Chains, etc etc
I think Hyabusa could fit in, blondie whos name keeps escaping me from NG could fit in even better, but shes multiplat, Yoshimitsu was a perfect character to put in it, maybe some VF4 and SF characters with old age styles.
I can't think of a DOA character that would fit in other then Helena and Gen Fu and Lei Fang, the rest are too modern age. A spartan in Soul Calibur looks like a desperate move, they shouldn't have to downgrade the abilities of characters we know, MC is a shooter first, sword weilder last, him with a sword in SC or Marcus with a chainsaw gun both look out of place. Vadar and Yoda looked out of place.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:05AM
Kratos should have been in SC4, would have prefered him to Vadar and Yoda, those chain blades would have been h-h-h-hectic in Soul Calibur, and he has some amazing combos to use as well.
CJLopez @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:34PM
The thing was, it was a commercial intent to promote Force Unleashed and the newly announced Clone Wars movie and tv show.
michael @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:15PM
What's wrong with Star War characters in Soul Calibur? I thought it was a great idea and a great collaboration. Hey I wouldn't mind if Lucasarts team up with Koei to do a Dynasty Warriors: Star War (or Samurai Warriors: Star War) for both US and Japan. It would sell so well.
TM @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:25AM
nice
bluezy @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:25AM
...And a great shadow was cast in his nether regions.
Jawmuncher @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:05AM
Now thats awesome.
Only other character I really want to see in a SC game is Dante.
He would fit without his guns
Angel Mass @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:25AM
I can picture Darth Vader Vs. Kratos now thanks to Soul Calibur
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:37AM
Kratos>>>>Yoda.
Saffie @ Jun 3rd 2009 11:49AM
I remember that there was rumor spreading that Kratos was supposed to be in Soulcalibur III.
corruptgun @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:29PM
Awesome stuff. Kratos > *
KinjiroSSD @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:40PM
Hell yeah. I'm actually interested now. Although, we all know no one on the SC roster can go toe-to-toe with Kratos.
Snake0005 @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:14PM
Anyone else think that Kratos being in SC really awesome?
cafecito @ Jun 4th 2009 6:10AM
I do. Though the lack of blood will be weird, they really nailed it making Kratos this version's guest character.
Snake0005 @ Jun 4th 2009 8:15AM
I think the new guy is kind of strange. Any one know his name?
Snake0005 @ Jun 4th 2009 8:39AM
And I do agree the lack of blood will be weird.
sevrdx @ Jul 2nd 2009 11:33PM
im pretty sure its Dampierre
