phinnvr6 @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:32PM
*yawn*. Luckily I saw about 50 amazing trailers for PS3.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:33PM
Glad you came into the post of a game you don't care about to post a one-word comment about how you don't care about it.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:33PM
*yawn* I was up late last night.
Shadow El @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:36PM
*yawn* This game has too many colors and not enough gray, brown, and guns to satisfy my hunger for fun.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:39PM
@mr nimblewick
Looking at your post history reveals that you do the same thing, all though usually you use a couple more words.
My favorite post of yours has to be the one about Aragorns Quest...
"This actually looks really cool. Plus, a second player can join in to cast spells as Gandalf."
Brodo @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:42PM
I know that you guys are all gonna hate me for saying this but I really wasnt a huge fan of mario galaxy.
I much preferred the flat worlds in mario 64, and being able to punch and kick instead of just spin around.
The game was also a bit too easy.
Im still excited for this game. A few spots in the video showed levels that seemed not so spherical, and some cool new additions
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:46PM
What's wrong about that comment about mine? I wasn't commenting about I didn't care about. I was stating my interest in a game that others were writing off just because it featured color and offering an extra tidbit of info that Joystiq was too lazy to relate.
vidGuy @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:23PM
 Another amazingly awesome first party game on Wii.
Captain Planet @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:03PM
The "yawn" was meant to symbolize my distaste for the new Mario game to be a sequel rather than a brand new Mario game. Think about, every TRUE Mario game released in the past 13 years was something NEW. This is the first sequel to a Mario game in the past 3 generations.
1996 - Mario 64
2002 - Mario Sunshine
2007 - Mario Galaxy
2010 - Mario Galaxy 2
Not saying the game will suck or anything but I was expecting something more, something original from Nintendo. When I say TRUE sequel, I'm obviously not counting Paper Mario, the millions of DS/GBA mario games, the spin-offs, I'm specifically talking about the Mario games that were completely different from the rest or introduced some sort of new gameplay element.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:06PM
Thank you for explaining.
guttertalk @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:07PM
*yawn*
I rode your mom like Yoshi last night.
TakeCTRL @ Jun 3rd 2009 8:35PM
you forgot to list the paper mario games.
Saria the Cat @ Jun 3rd 2009 8:48PM
@Captain Planet: I think next time you should contextualize your yawn from the get-go.
GewurztraminerX @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:18PM
SMB3 and SMW weren't drastically different from the first SMB (a replayable world map and different powerups for the most part) yet they were fantastic games.
Grog @ Jun 3rd 2009 10:19PM
Wait... so what you're saying is that Mario 3 wasn't good because it was a sequel instead of something "original"?
Each Mario game retains some of the platforming mechanics of the new one and adds something new.
Captain Planet @ Jun 4th 2009 10:43AM
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying...read it again stupid.
Sturat @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:30PM
They need to bring back the Super Mario Galaxy Orchestra! This game looks great, but I hope the synthesized music in this trailer is just a temporary stand-in, because I really can't stand it.
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:58PM
So what? You only play games with orchestrated music?
Highlar @ Jun 3rd 2009 9:44PM
I think he kind of has a point, because the musical score in SMG is simply outstanding. I don't usually buy soundtracks, but I wish I could that if there was one. I'd keep it in the car and press play anytime I had to go anywhere. :)
cede @ Jun 4th 2009 2:23AM
There was a soundtrack to Galaxy. I have it.
Lemmiwinks @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:30PM
glee
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:30PM
I sighed when I saw the Miyamoto quote that at least 10% of this game is going to be old Galaxy 1 levels. If that doesn't tell you that this is going to be a cash in to barely keep the hardcore's attention, then I don't know what will.
Shadow El @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:34PM
He actually said at most, and even those would have new challenges. Left 4 Dead 2 is the kind of cash-in you're describing, this will be a brand new game.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:34PM
He said at MOST 10% wouldn't be new content. More likely 5%. He didn't specify what that meant exactly.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:36PM
L4D2 is a brand new game too, but you're right it's still a cash in. I can't be the only one who has the feeling that this is more of an expansion
Shadow El @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:38PM
That's what I was afraid of. But watching the video and seeing things that they didn't even attempt in Galaxy 1 changed my mind. If anything, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a boring expansion, but even that looks new.
They need to make more suits for Galaxy 2, though. It looked like a lot of Mario's abilities from the first game (floating, skating) got relegated to either Yoshi or just plain regular Mario.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:40PM
I really don't see how it is an expansion any more than Gears 2 or God of War 2 were. It's a sequel.
Stix Remix @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:41PM
@tmac
So 90+% new game = expansion? I think not. Besides, it's not like they're just copy/pasting levels. They'll probably be adding challenges or moving around the star pieces and such.
Oh no! This game has 75% the same guns as the previous game. This is clearly just a cash in to hold the crowd.
David Black @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:41PM
I'll have to agree with you in this case, tmac. I definitely felt like this was basically an expansion. Unfortunately, I'm sure this will retail for 50 bones and they won't drop the price of the original Galaxy cause Nintendo believes their titles are worthy of MSRP forever.
WREturns @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:54PM
I feel like God of War 3 and GT5 are cash-ins and little more than expansions.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:57PM
Yeah, those games are just quick cash-ins. They've only been working on them for at least 4 years each. Whereas they announced galaxy 2 not even two years after the last one came out, when they normally only do 1 main mario game per generation.
WhatIsThatThing @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:57PM
How can you really consider a game that comes out 3 years after the original to be a cash-in? Left 4 Dead 2 maybe because it's only been one year. But SMG came out in 2007 and this game comes out in 2010.
Okay, so let's do some quick math here. Super Mario Galaxy 1 has 120 stars. 5% of that is 6 levels. 10% is 12. AT MOST there will be 12 unoriginal content--and we don't even know what that means.
I'm leaning more heavily to the "sequel" side as opposed to the "cash-in" side.
WREturns @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:01PM
I don't think amount of time working on a title has anything to do with it. I could work on designing a game for 10 years and it could still be a cash-in/expansion.
Chad Vanderbilt (Pussy Wreckin Ball) @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:05PM
Ever wonder what a Microsoft cash in looks like? Well BAM! Here it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXN7vLPsDSM&fmt=18
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:06PM
I think you're one of the very few fanboys that would call any GT game a cash in, given how notorious they are for putting in extreme amounts of detail. It takes them months to totally complete each car, that's not a cash in.
It's just funny watching the evolution of a nintendo fanboy. A few years ago they were all against shooters and making fun of 360 for having so many, now they're excited for the conduit. They would also rag on them for having so many sequels, and now are anticipating a Mario sequel less than 2 years after the last one.
Where will we go next? I predict whenever wii hd comes out they'll all be graphic whores then, when this generation graphics didn't matter to them :P
Quattro @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:08PM
I'm going to have to agree with tmac. When a new console 3D mario game features the same gameplay elements and style, the same setting, and now even a portion of its levels (albeit small) with the previous game, to me, that feels like a cash-in.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:11PM
I'm not looking forward to the conduit. I think it looks like crap, from a graphical standpoint and from a gameplay standpoint.
I think nintendo fanboys have only ever complained about sequels on xbox and ps3 when people would rag on all the mario games. The industry is all about sequels at the moment.
And you want to talk about fanboys changing? Just read all the comments about motion controls for the PS3 and XBOX. It's really funny watching those two groups bitch about who has the better camera technology.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:12PM
Actually... the Miyamoto quote was kinda taken out of context... check other sources, please.
Miyamoto said that 90% of the galaxies are going to be new, and 10% galaxies from the previous game, but *hint, hint*... only the setting, the style of the galaxy. For example, maybe Gusty Gardens Galaxy is one of the previous galaxies to be featured in the game, but with different levels, not the same as Galaxy 1.
Just check other sources, and not only Kotaku (the first one to reveal this).
nofriendo @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:35PM
I agree with you on the whole fanboy thing tmac. The evolution doesn't take as long as you would think either. I mean it was only a couple of posts ago where you talked about how pointless motion controls are, and as soon MS showed project Natal I believe you said something to the fact of:
"Yeah, they just beat down Nintendo and pissed on them before they got up"
Your an example of how a fanboy can contradict itself more than the bible.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:40PM
They did. It's far more impressive technology, but I also never said I liked it, cause I don't. Only for browsing the menus.
Nice try with the very fox news-ish spin, but it didn't work.
Quattro @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:41PM
I'm not a fan of motion control or waggle, but I was still impressed by Natal when they showed Milo. I don't recall Nintendo ever doing anything similar.
bm @ Jun 3rd 2009 6:58PM
"I'm going to have to agree with tmac. When a new console 3D mario game features the same gameplay elements and style, the same setting, and now even a portion of its levels (albeit small) with the previous game, to me, that feels like a cash-in."

"Yeah, those games are just quick cash-ins. They've only been working on them for at least 4 years each. Whereas they announced galaxy 2 not even two years after the last one came out, when they normally only do 1 main mario game per generation."
From Mr. "Nintendo doesn't produce enough first party games". As said before, all you do is contradict yourself.
I guess you shouldn't really expect much from a child troll. Most seasoned trolls at least close any gaps in their arguments.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:19PM
They don't. Why does every game have to be from one of their few franchises? Other companies are good at coming up with new IPs to go along with sequels. Nintendo just makes another mario, another zelda, another metroid etc etc.
Quattro @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:23PM
@bm
That's great except, I don't like Gears of War, and I do feel like the sequel didn't add anything. So I don't know what you're saying, unless you're agreeing with me.
redjack @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:34PM
"They don't. Why does every game have to be from one of their few franchises? Other companies are good at coming up with new IPs to go along with sequels. Nintendo just makes another mario, another zelda, another metroid etc etc."
Because that's all anyone asks for, including you. Everyone wants the iconic characters back for another romp. And we're already seeing the same thing happen with these newer companies to the business. How many Halos are we up to now?
It happens with any franchise. Why can't Raiden head a MGS game? They're going to try it again but honestly, how well did that work last time? Everyone HATED it.
Quattro @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:48PM
Speak for yourself, I enjoyed MGS2.
redjack @ Jun 3rd 2009 7:55PM
So did I. But that doesn't mean that was the general consensus. When haven't you seen "For Christ's sake, never pull another MGS2 on us! No more Raiden!!!" ?
Quattro @ Jun 3rd 2009 8:13PM
Well, to be honest, MGS2 was the first MGS game I've beaten. So it might be different for people who were expecting more of the first.
