it does look like it could be fun, but the mouthful of a title gets on my nerves.

yeah I want to know why it took Nintendo sooooooooo long to come out with this game. I remember playing Super Mario Bros when I was 4 and wondering why they wouldn't let mario and luigi both be playing at the same time.

According to Miyamoto....this game is ONLY possible because of the POWER of the Wii processor.
No, I'm not kidding, he really said it.
But even with the "power" of the Wii, you still CANNOT play this game online.

There's something that's been pissing me off since yesterday. I've checked several websites, and everyone is acting like a goddamn idiot about this game.
It's like no one played this version on the DS. The graphics are THE SAME. And I mean THE SAME. I have this game on the DS, and I played it with my friend (he as luigi, me as mario). And trust me: although it works as a timetrial/vs on a level, it's also a lot of fun.
But it bothers me that people are treating the game as if it was something completely different and original. This is a port of the DS game with 2 more players added, more levels and powerups, but the exact same game engine.
Yes the DS original has physics, sliding, wall jumps, etc.
It's not important, but it does bother me. Maybe no one plays the DS -.-

It's sad when all people do with LBP is make a aMario, Megaman or Sonic stage with it. Probably Nintendo decided to make a 4 player Mario game so that people could stop making one with LBP. Also they want our money and lots of it. XD. The game does look nice. But after seeing Sony's presentation (despite that glowstick/sex toy they call a controller prototype) I'll be getting a PS3 for my birthday this month. It's relatively cheap in my country. Having both a PS3 and a Wii will allow me to benefit from what both have to offer. It's great.

This is NOT A PORT.
None of the levels shown are in the DS game. The propeller suit and penguin suit are not in that game. Have you played the DS game?? Did you watch the video???

Only thing I didn't like about the conference showing was that power-ups came out in groups of four when they were playing. Would be more fun if it were first-come first-serve.
Looks like a pretty fun game though, was genuinely surprised when I found out it wasn't WiiWare too.

That's another part of it being competitive or co-operative. If you want it to be competitive than snatch 'em all up.

I know really, Watching that uncharted 2 trailer alone kinda makes everything else dull. I leaked multiple different bodily fluids after that.
Still crazy excited for God of War III and Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2.

We've seen the trailers and heard the hype for almost everything you listed. GT5? Seriously? Wow more pretty cars. Uncharted wasn't that great, I got extremely tired of murdering hundrends of people just to get a glimpse of a gold statue... GoW, yes I'm excited. But it's been 2 years since played a GoW, it's been over 10 since I played a console 2d Mario.

@ Storm Eagle - This is definitely the game of the show for local multiplayer aficionados. Maybe if that Mod Nation Racers supports 2-4 player split-sceen, it's an even tie (my personal favorite game has been The Last Guardian though)
The only games out there anymore that offer this kind of competitive coop are Rock Band or mini game compilations, and they are getting (in the case of minigames, have always been) old and stale. As much as I'm looking forward to playing some Uncharted 2 on my downtime, I'm always looking for a fun game that can spark a fun camaraderie between four people lounging on my sofa.
Ugh, now I wish they would have announced Four Swords Adventures 2!

I'm fine with you looking forward NSMB Wii, but this statement is an odd way to describe Uncharted. These people you are supposedly "murdering" are mercenaries that attacked, robbed, and attempted to kill you first. You make it sound like Drake is on some sort of no holds barred quest for treasure killing innocent people along the way.

That explains it. You sold your Wii so you have to make do with what you got and your jealousy brought you here to complain. Coming into a thread for a game that belongs to a console you don't own is just sad, but I welcome you.
You also probably don't have any friends. I'm sure you're very popular on the internet, but the last time you sat down and played a video game in the same room as some one was at some SF2 tournament in 95.
Your choice in games says to me that you eat the Hype. You probably have no opinions for yourself and whatever is shown during a conference of the system you own you swallow down and then run off to pre-order it with daddy's credit card. This is fine, you'll learn how to judge a game for yourself one day. I'll be excited for you when you do.

Actually Storm Eagle, I don't have a PS3 yet (waiting for case redesign and BC), but I do consider myself a PSWii gamer because those are what I'm interested in. And I have to say, MAG, Uncharted 2, and GOW3 all look nice, but not "oh my god I must have that, show me more" amazing. GT5 I don't count at all, since the only racing game I've ever found engaging is Burnout.
I have to say that I thought Nintendo did a much better job than Sony in terms of getting my interest, even though Sony had the better presentation in terms of optics. Nintendo did a crappy job of announcing titles, and because of the way they lingered on things, made it seem like they were still very heavily focused on the casual market. Iwata seemed depressed about the Vitality Sensor, and they had no software to demonstrate it with, but it could potentially be an extremely interesting piece of equipment if handled well. I really want to see what Nintendo has in mind for it. Likewise, I want to see more of Other M, and exactly where they're going with it. Miyamoto talking about Wii Zelda is also nice to hear. Galaxy 2 would be great had I completed the original; it's still very interesting that the Wii gets only the second Mario Gaiden since the SNES (and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them give Wii a SMB3 too).
Sony did everything "right", but it felt like I was watching a generic video game magazine, not an E3 event. They had footage of games they had announced, new game announcements, new hardware announcements, but out of all of it nothing screamed "OH WOW FINALLY". Final Fantasy XIV had me excited for a minute, but that was the FFXI playing part of me I long ago abandoned. Nothing wrong with being an MMO, but I highly doubt I'll be devoting that much time and energy to a game again. I was more excited for my friends than anything. Sony told me nothing I wanted to hear and didn't know (details on the digitalization of PSP, new PS3 hardware, PSP games, bizzare games), and the stuff I did want to hear had already been leaked (PSP go, I don't care about the console, but PSP digitalization is great. Peace Walker, glad to see a trailer, but PO2 was already out there. The Last Guardian, again it's nice to see an updated trailer, but it wasn't anything new, just better).
Even if they hadn't been leaked, I still would've been disappointed-- I have ICO and MGS in 'media blackout' mode; I gather a couple basic details, and then buy the game in a leap of faith with the developer based on past holyfuckness. I'd hear new game, watch trailer, be giddy, and that would be it. PSP Go announcement would still be very annoying because they don't explain how it will be handled. How many UMD games will we see on PSN in the coming months? PS1 games? Will the Media Manager be updated to allow us to digitalize our UMD games? PS1 games? Will we be able to take them to kiosks? Sony approved retailers? Mail them in? Will *that* apply to PS1 games? What about my games from the UK, how will I digitalize them? Can PS1 games be modified at least to fully fit the screen without stretching? Will you allow the PSP to store multiple account certificates (at least one per region) so that you do not have to constantly futz with the PSN to play games from other accounts/regions? Will you allow PSP games to be published that exceed the size limits of UMD, now that they're downloadable? Will all UMD games be required to be on PSN? Starting when? Will it be like trophies, where it's "all games treated after X date", or will it just be "all games released after X date"? If you don't have an official method to digitalize UMD games, will you make an effort to work with stores such as GameStop to ensure that people do not lose money by abandoning their UMDs for downloads?
The difference mainly being that with Nintendo, the unanswered questions are "Well! That was certainly different. I wonder where they're headed with this.". With Sony, it's "Man. I can see how other people are excited, but I am really annoyed. I wanted them to talk about these things which they clearly need to respond to.". Nintendo seemed like a college film project-- pretty poor production, but the underlying concept is fascinating. Sony seemed like a Hollywood blockbuster-- pretty tight visuals, but the story never surprised you; overall it wasn't terrible, but you're not going to watch it again.

It wasn't the motivation that I had a problem with. It was the volumn of the killings.
In Killzone I slaughtered thousands probably. Yet in a war where I am one of the top ranking elites of the invading planet it seems to make sense.
In Uncharted I am an explorer seeking out some lost treasure. I didn't hear about any special weapons or military training. yet the first thing I did in the game was kill two dozen pirates that attacked my boat.
It also got very repetitive. Every new room I entered I had to find cover, kill the two missile launcher guys or guys with scopes, kill the others and then find cover else where to prepare for the second wave. After the 10th time that got old.
I loved the story, the platforming pieces were fun, and the puzzles were simple but broke up the game well. The fighting just wore me down though.

heh- tl;dr:
Nintendo needs to fire Cammie, ban Reggie from giving presentations, and hire some new PR. Their presentation was atrocious. In spite of that, and the fact that they did a bad job of covering new announcements (like WarioWare DIY; if it's anything like the Japanese version Made in Ore, it will also be a new Wii game, and a very interesting one at that), they still had things that drew my interest, and made me want to know more.
Sony had all the right moves, but it was too predictable, like a summer action movie. It seemed cliched at best. The only new thing there I didn't know about was something I'm probably not going to want to play. They didn't show me anything that amazed me, or got me thinking, nor did they answer any of the questions about the PSP, PSN, and firmware updates that I have been wondering about.
Despite Sony's conference being technically superior, like an analogy to their consoles, I cannot help but find Nintendo's more interesting, if not necessarily "better".

And you act like GTAIV before the DLC didn't have stuff like that yet it was all over the place (logo for the bowlign alley for example). People SR2 because it's simply more fun to play.

I completely agree with what everything you posted. I'm sure the sad state of how adult games and family friendly games are viewed will pass. It's a vocal age group that reports most things as Fail or Win. It's sad to see a game like this placed in the same group as Petz, when it should stand out as the "Shrek" of gaming. Something for everyone, enjoyed by all, and it doesn't have to leave anyone out.
On the personal attacks note. Some people just scream for it and I can't help myself when they make it so easy.

I'd also like to point out that this isn't entirely true. Galaxy certainly has some challenging levels, but NSMB was VERY easy. I still loved the game, but I finished the game with my extra lives maxed out at 99. Galaxy, if anything, is guilty of being utterly devoid of a smooth difficulty curve. One level may be play blindfolded easy and the next may be quite difficult... and then back again.

Don't get me wrong just because I prefer "hardcore" games like God of War or Splinter Cell this generation which include a lot of tits, ass, and blood doesn't necessarily mean I am dismissing family oriented game. My favorite game this generation has been Braid and I love playing Rock Band with my friends, but 2D Mario games have been stagnant ever since SNES' Yoshi Island. Mario Galaxy 2, I could see getting excited over this game, but a 2D mario game on a console that could barely push the envelope amongst its competitors in innovation, I hardly see a reason to get excited.
Also if you claim a good game like Uncharted is just murder simulator without a plot then don't get butt hurt when you get called out on your stubborn, juvenile, solely nostalgic appeal for a 2D Mario game that belongs on a handheld.

Are we talking about the same system? The Wii was the ONLY console to innovate in this generation. The Wii decided to change things up instead of just adding HD graphics like Microsoft and Sony's consoles. Now they are the ones that have to catch up with innovations and "gimmicks."

I too own a PS3 and a Wii, and this game definitely has me pumped for some Wii action (there's a pun hidden in there somewhere, I just know it). As someone said before, it does look like the "faithful" successor to Super Mario World.
I don't mind getting nostalgic with some 2-D side scrolling action...I mean beside LBP, of course.
And plus I'm still a sucker for yet another Mario game (except Sunshine!).
