As a gamer, we could not have grown up at a better time than when we did. I had an Atari when I was just a pup and hardly remember it (for some reason the He-Man game stand out because it was a He-Man game... but you flew in some sort of ship?!). Then I got my NES and I experienced all the mario magic. Remember how amazing it was when Super Mario World came out? I remember reading Nintendo Power and seeing screen shots of Final Fight and Actraiser and having my mind blown. The graphics! Haha.
Nah Chuck, we grew up at seeing and knowing what games were to how they are now. Essentially, we grew up WITH the game industry.
And I'm 26, which I don't think is old. I like to think that unlike the 15 year olds mouthing off to everyone and flaming in every comment, I actually have a brain and some experience in life in general to back it up.

Super Mario World was always my favorite Mario game. New SMB for DS was great, and I'm looking forward to this too.

I always wanted an adventure Mario game that I could co-op with my GF.
She's competitive and yells a lot, but co-op, not so much. :P

Yeah, I remember 4-player co-op being all the rage back in 1986.

I'd rather have this on DS. I hope it plays well with only one player.

The thing about a game like this is that it's such a proven design that making new ones isn't a huge undertaking because even by SMB 9,4234,533 it won't require a giant re-envisioning of the concept. What makes the difference between this one and the ones that came before it are that they focus on level design. As long as they can come up with new and exciting things to jump over, they could make new version of this game forever.

There aren't nearly enough sidescrollers for consoles these days. Halo in the style of Metroid would be awesome, and has already been done as PC homebrew... or how about a new 2.5d Donkey Kong?
Actually, how about a new Donkey Kong game in general? The last real DK game (Konga, Jungle Beat, etc don't count) was on the N64...

It’s just me or everything I see on those screens looks really easy? Almost no old school Mario hard moment. Hope it not to be as easy as Super Paper Mario was…

Sega, you watching? All I need now is a sonic 2d platform this...

I don't care what anyone says, I like Sonic games. Yes, including the 3D ones. I liked Sonic Heroes, and even Sonic 06 was good if it weren't for the bugs. All that one needed was some polish and it would have been the best Sonic game since Sonic CD. Or 3&Knuckles. I'm undecided.
They need to come out with more sidescrollers like Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2. I liked those better than Sonic Rush.

After reading so many bad comments about the big 3, I'm seriously fed up. I think all 3 companies did great this year (I was scared Nintendo would be the lacky this year). They all gave us what we wanted. I'm really surprised about Nintendo finally doing what we the fans want, old school characters in new games. That just shows Nintendo listens to us (once in a while) and they didn't disappoint. I was really amazed at Sony's and Microsoft's conference. I'm not even a big Sony fan, but I'm seriously thinking about buying a ps3 because of games like Little Big Planet and Mod World. Mod World just made me think differently of Sony. And Microsoft showed a solid conference this year with their new project Natal and Xbox exclusives.
All in all, none of the companies disappointed. They all delivered what the gamer wanted (even if theres a heart monitor in the mix....)

3D Mario games have been lacking since Mario 64. New Super Mario Bros. was good, but it was too short and the music sucked.
In fact, Mario music has sucked since Mario 64. It's no longer fun to listen to. They should go back and figure out why Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island had such great music and make some new music in the same vein.

I hope this is an entirely new platformer, not just a rehash of old levels, because I love old style Mario games, and I would like new enemies/bosses/levels.
:O!

Here's the difference between Nintendo and MS/Sony.
I sat on my sofa last night with the kids, looking at the different game trailers from E3. The kids saw things that they love (Bakugan), I saw things I'll love (Conduit, Extraction), and we saw things we both will enjoy (NSMB, Galaxy 2).
I can't say that about the Sony and Microsoft highlights, at least not nearly as well. Yes, this was my first real exposure to Saboteur, which I'm now looking forward to. But as we looked through those companies' highlights, there wasn't much for the kids.
To some, that's a negative for Nintendo. For me, it's a positive difference.

So is it multiplayer online or not?
If it's not, then the multiplayer aspect is useless to me and thus I have no reason to participate.

I am very excited by this game, it looks like it'll be a blast. I'm just extremely surprised that Nintendo hasn't tried this yet on the Wii. Sure they had the Wario sidescroller - which was "ok". And they had Paper Mario - which had it's moments, but overall i was disappointed with. So, Nintendo, What took you so long? :)
Either way, this is a day one purchase for me! Keep it coming, Nintendo; and As a fan and owner of all 3 consoles, i can say without a fanboy conviction that you won this E3 just based on the quality of games you've got in the pipeline: Metroid: Other M (please, change that name though :) ), Mario Galaxy 2, and this New Super Mario Bros.
But hey, having said all this, don't let me stop you from throwing us another Surprise announcement like a new Star Fox, Pilotwings and/or Kid Icarus!

my only disapointment is that it is two unknown mushroom people instead of like SMB2 where it is peach and toad.

DS game on a console = fail. How much further can Nintendo possibly slip? lol "mew play control" games and now re-releasing DS games for the Wii... FAIL.

If you hadn't noticed.....this isn't the one that's on the DS. Was Yoshi on the New Super Mario Bros. for the DS? No. It's obviously the sequel.

Why do people scream bloody murder when someone says that they really like one game and not what he/she thinks is the best game? People have preferences for gaming. It shouldn't be that big of a deal.

It would have been better if they stated something like the ability to choose several characters of the Mario universe to play with, like Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi or even Koopas and such. I don't mind the two Toads thing one bit however. Also, why can't they make a full scale epic Bowser platformer like the intermissions they had in Paper Mario: TTYD? It could have Bowser disregarding the hidden laws of Mario stages, bypassing the impossible, clawing at thise who stand in his way, torching the oppressors, then in the last battle, he ends up being beaten by Mario in some unfairly scripted fight. I'd totally buy that.

The Major reason I can see why red!Toad and Peach aren't choices: no inherent powers for the players. If Peach and Toad were in there then Peach would float, Toad would be super strong (grab and toss real fast). All 4 players would have no advantage over the others before playing....
Which also means I can't see Luigi having his world famous Super Jump in this one. :(
