While there was not a full game to show it off, Sony's tech is not smoke and mirrors. They HAVE working code and they DID show it off! While what they showed was gimmicky, just change the textures, models and AI and you have a game!
And I prefer an enthusiatic engineer showing his loved product to a PR specialist showing pre-rendered goal videos.

I look forward to playing multi-platform sports games on all three systems at the SAME TIME!!! Natal, meet wiimote-PS3-wand-duct-tape combo thingy.
...I wonder which version of NHL 10 will best capture my slapshotting abilities....

you guys do realize that technically you could use anything as your "wand" in natal right? it can track multiple objects so therefore track a pen in your hand. instead of needing 4 of those controller... things, you could just open your desk.

After watching both the video I linked above and the Sony one over and over again I see that Sony's does look a little more acurate, but to all those who say Wii Motion Plus has no Z axis you are wrong. If you actually watched the video linked
he turns his lightsabre around and beats the dummy with his hilt and he clearly pushes forward to hit the dummy and does no slash at all.

Comparing The Microsoft Version "Cause you can use your Whole Body...."
The EyeToy already did this over a year ago.
They added the Controllers because the Camera without Some type of Controller just doesn't work as well as it Should.
Microsoft's Solution is PS3 Eye Toy 2007...
I have a Wii and those Controllers are not very precise. Using the Wiimote or the Wii Fit Board is Fun. But you have to Accept that it will not always track you very well.
The EyeToy is about the Same. It works... It is Fun... But it is Limited for Accuracy. The Microsoft Solution adds Depth Perception to the Formula, It is Cool and Should be Fun. Speaking from Experience using all these systems I feel that Sony's will actually work the Best for Real Games and Not Just $5 mini games.
You could see in the Accuracy of the Tracking. The Shield and Sword along with the Bow and Arrow Demonstration really shows how it will work for Real Games like Role Playing Games, Boxing would be Sweet.

wow, coming from a wii/360 owner, that looks freaking sweet,
if they can use that technology to make some great, fun, motion games, I'm definitely buying a ps3.
hopefully the game designers don't get lazy and make motion shovelware games for ps3 like they do on the wii.
BTW, I'm not a fanboy of any system, just a guy that loves video games

Why do people who own other consoles other than a PS3 keep saying the same thing? "If [something] then I'm definitely buying a ps3." Also, don't forget the "Maybe this [insert awesome game here] will finally make me buy a PS3" even though plenty of other awesome games are already out.
Look, there are already plenty of good reasons to own a PS3, you certainly don't need some motion controls to seal the deal.

well in my opinion, there really hasn't been enough ps3 exclusives for me to by a $400 system
motion controls, plus god of war 3 coming out are 2 things that make me want to buy a ps3
I'm not arguing that are no good games on ps3 currently, don't get me wrong.....

Natal is most likely using differences between camera frames to detect motion, using skin color to detect faces and hands, and using the differences of frames taken at the same time by each ccd (it looked like it had two cameras in one houseing) to calculate distance from camera to subject. Some of the hurdles they face are that using skin hue only works for 70% of skin colors. Using motion only is very problematic. Ever using an eyetoy kinetic with other people or pets in the room? Lighting will be a big issue for natal too. I'm not saying its impossible but universities have been researching this for years and not completely solved it to the level of MS's video of "what could be". Has anyone seen the "Racial Sensitivity" episode of "Better Off Ted"? Having a controller that doesn't work for everyone because of skin color is not a viable product.
Sony's system on the other hand uses the wand to provide an object with a known color, shape and size. This makes it much easier to detect and uses much less cpu power. Natal could end up using a big cluck of available cpu cycles limiting what is left for game play and graphics. The wands are also illuminated so room lighting is not an issue either.
Sony may have had no intention on showing their version of motion control until TGS but everyone would have said they copied MS. This way they got it out there. Sony can get their motion system out in the market by early 2010 but don't be surprised if natal is released at the same time but with only the abilities shown live on stage.

Microsoft's project natal uses an IR sensor and a camera, and includes a CPU to do the job.
Sony uses the PSEye and the PS3 itself, but the PS3 already has multiple cores, of which 1 or 2 could do the motion code. It's not like many games use all the SPU.
Sony's tech is an upgraded version of the tech demos on the Eyetoy discs. There was an Eyetoy demo which tracked a brightly colored object to do magic spells.
