Assassin's Creed 2 will end with a cliffhanger

That's according to Assassin's Creed II creative director, Patrice Désilets. In addition to saying "Holy crap," you should also prepare yourself to exclaim, "But what happens next?!" Désilets noted that his first Ubisoft sequel will answer plenty of questions -- but not all of them.
"There will be a cliffhanger," he admitted. "It's cool to have a cliffhanger." The director feels that players need to experience just a little bit of frustration at the game's completion, though a new way to replay completed missions should counter at least some of that. Oh, and remember that glowing writing on the wall?
"It has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed II, what's written on the wall has to do with the Assassin's Creed universe, not the second one."

what??
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 4th 2009 9:31PM
No you don't understand, that's the next setting.
Peanut butter as we know it was invented in 1884 and jelly or gelatine that comes from French Géltaine whihc could be a hint on the next setting.
I got it Assassin's Creed 3 will take place on 1884 France! Brilliant

So they jumped like 300 years between the first and second one...if they jump another 300 in the third one that would put it around the time of the US starting up.....they could make that even crazier....
I really cant wait to get my hands on this game, not only that I would LOVE to see this go another 2 games after this one...I mean if they are teaching Eziro to be an assassin's in this one then they could teach dude thats in the machine to be one in current time(2012, unless they make the world end...lol)...but I think the first one ended on kind of a cliffhanger....
CynicalStrike @ Jun 4th 2009 8:30PM
Yeah, the American War of Independence would be a pretty unique setting for a game. Either that or the French Revolution... playing as a Scarlet Pimpernel type figure... in fact, that would be freaking awesome, please Ubi!
I still don't like the whole "genetic memory" thing as a framing device though. It's as if they didn't feel that a historical setting could stand up on its own (and sell units), so dumped it in the middle of some sci-fi BS.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jun 4th 2009 8:36PM
well by them doing it the way they are doing it allows for them to not only skip around in time....but also add another twist to the game.....gets WAAAAAAAAAAAY more in depth if they want it...
koehler83 @ Jun 4th 2009 8:41PM
Though Im not specifically sure about New Amsterdam, I don't think anything around the American Revolution would suffice for an AC setting. The first criteria is a sprawling cityscape.
My guess would be London.
Ezio Auditore de Firenze [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 4th 2009 8:42PM
french revolution it is then! that would definitely be an interesting time period.
Jake @ Jun 4th 2009 9:31PM
@koehler83
Yeah, perhaps a new take on Guy Fawkes.
PSN: John-Paul-Jones @ Jun 4th 2009 9:42PM
I really wanted Asaassin's Creed 3 to take place during Desmond's time period, hoping that Desmond would break out of the cell he's in and find out exactly who placed him there in the first place and kill him and others in his way (but the people who placed him there may be explored in AC2). But, the Assassin's Creed series has been a pivotal franchise that explores the famous eras of the past, so I think it would be great if AC3 took place during the American or French revolution
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jun 4th 2009 9:47PM
yea you guys have a point...French Revolution makes more sense than the founding of America if its going to keep the same high rises....
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 4th 2009 8:23PM
I never saw it coming at the end of 1 either.
Course...I have no idea what it was, seeing as the ending made no sense at all. Fun game though, just had a really bad story.
Ignatius @ Jun 4th 2009 8:37PM
The ending of Assassin's Creed 1 really pissed me off.
It was like, okay, let's go kick some ass! *the end* WHAT!?
I knew it was a trilogy... but god, that wasn't as much of a cliffhanger as it was a punch in the face.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 4th 2009 8:57PM
i really enjoyed the ending, it made waaaaay more sense if you did all the conversations with Lucy and snuck around on the computers. You found stuff about the Tunguska Event, The Crystal Skulls (yes the same ones from Indiana Jones), the mayan apocalpyse, more stuff from the bible, Yonaguni (basically Japan's Atlantis), the philadelphia experiment, the tomb of China's first emperor (rumored to contain a portal to hell) and almost all of that was referenced with the secret endings on the wall, and some more, like the Nazca Lines which are said to have been maid by the Nazca to communicate with aliens. When you understand all that stuff it really was a satisfying ending, although I suppose being a conspiracy buff helps also. For those of you who want to know more, as i dont want to there's a really detailed explanation here from one of the people who worked on the game that explains the end stuff as well as the emails http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175552

Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 4th 2009 9:32PM
It wasn't much of a cliffhanger as it was product placement for the sequel.

Uh, so the second one doesn't take place in the AC universe?
Mu93n @ Jun 4th 2009 9:15PM
haha apparently not... takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...-que lightsabers and star wars music- oh wait...wrong franchise...my bad
james @ Jun 4th 2009 9:39PM
maybe the wall writing refers to AC3, or maybe bloodlines.
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 4th 2009 9:01PM
I just hope it's better than Assassin's Creed 1's "buy more Ovaltine" cliffhanger.

assassins creed universe, is he referring to the entire world they created, or is that the title to something?
Warren @ Jun 4th 2009 11:07PM
If I finish AC2, the first thing I'll exclaim is "Wow, I finished an Ubisoft game! I usually can't because of all the horrendous screen tearing!"
Oh, and for the record, the AC2 demo at the Sony press conference had a lot of tearing along the edges of the screen. I won't be exclaiming anything, because I won't be finishing it, because I won't be buying it, because I don't support developers that crank out a shoddy product. Screen tearing looks terrible. FIX IT.
Duke @ Jun 5th 2009 11:24AM
Really, some screen tearing keeps you from playing good games? That is found in titles all the time, so you must enjoy playing scrabble with grandma every night instead of gaming.
Burns11 @ Jun 4th 2009 9:15PM
Cliffhangers in games suck, you wait 2-4 years and forget most of what happened anyway, and that's IF they you get to play the next game (see: PAL territories and Xenosaga).
Just make the game and end it, the sequel doesn't suffer and the experience is better for it.
Batzarro @ Jun 4th 2009 9:21PM
So, at the end of the game Sylvester Stallone impales a guy through an icicle, then?
D @ Jun 4th 2009 9:21PM
One thing it won't end with is a surprise anymore...
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 4th 2009 9:36PM
that's what i was thinking
"I'm telling you. At the end of AC2 you'll say‚ 'Holy crap, I never saw it coming."
.....until he told me it was coming.
