Listen, I'm coming from NYC, so I don't know what you're beepin' about.

I'm not, but someone was going to say they're coming some far off land and to not complain, so I beat them to it.

I went to last year's one, I remember they had playable Rock Band 2 when it had just been announced, tons of energy drinks, cheese pizza that went fast, and TONS of free stuff (and that includes games). I got Dead Rising and a Joystiq shirt. Really awesome event, too bad I can't go this year. I recommend anyone else to go though.

:( :( :( I'm coming to visit my family in LA, but not until the 13th. I have intense flight phobia so I try to limit my flying, otherwise I'd be down in there in a heartbeat.

drink lots of alcohol before the flight. you'll pass out by the time the plane lifts off.

that solution works for lots of life problems too, you should try it sometime.

hell it even works for happy occasions. alcohol is the perfect remedy for everything =)

Even though it's safer than driving and all that jazz? I love flying. 2 jobs ago I got to fly all over the US for biz, but the last job was more regional which just meant windshield time all over SoCal. I'd take flying over lots of drive time any day :P

Yeah, I know flying is statistically safer than driving. That's why it's a phobia --- irrational fear. :( But you have to admit, there is something NOT RIGHT about being contained in a little tin can hurtled through the air at ridiculous speeds with everyone hoping equipment doesn't fail and the big hunk of machinery falls out of the sky.

I think I can help. I know its easy to break down what a place is to its bear essentials by calling it a tin-can propelled by a volitile fuel compound propeled at hundreds of miles per hours through the air creating lift.

And when you think of it that way it is scary. I know because I had my wisdom teeth removed not too long ago and I was terrified. I though of it as having someone breaking the teeth from my jaw with a hammer until they shatter then pulling the remains from my skull and drilling out the nerves.

When I went to see the doctor he asked why I was scared and I told him that. He got very angry looking and told me, "I'm not going to break the teeth out of your skull with a hammer, I'm going to 'surgically remove' them."

Well it might not have helped with the fear but I was certainly more afraid that I had pissed off the doctor who was now going to be operating on me. He ended up doing a really good job and I was appologized.

So when your boarding the plane just ask the pilot if he got his flight liscence out of a cracker jack box, and how many martinis he had for lunch. You'll be so worried they are going to throw you off the plane that you'll actually feel relieved when you take -off.

Hope this helps.

Aww, thanks Shaggy. I've actually sat between two pilots before on a Southwest flight and it helped considerably to just talk to them --- they definitely have tons of experience (25+ years, Air Force). I always try to sit next to a nice person who will talk to me 'cause it distracts me and then I don't worry about things too much. I literally scope out the candidates I want to sit next to before the flight!

If only I could hire someone every time I'm going to fly to just sit next to me and chat!

Bah! A little more advance notice would've been nice, it's only 2 hrs but I kinda doubt I'll drive up at this point. Driving up to LA in back in the same day is a drag, and I don't want to couch it at my buddy's place in Hollywood on a day's notice.

...How much free goodies would I realistically be able to get my mitts on were I to show up???

I can't believe it's the same day as Game 1 of the Finals. The meetup sounds great, but the Lakers trump everything else. I guess I should warn you guys that the streets of LA might be kind of crazy that night. I hope you guys wear purple and gold!
