Why should he be afraid? Kratos is a God, whereas Gabriel is a mere human...

What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!

(Oh god I hope Patrick Stewart gets down on that one...)

Man...

Patrick Stewart was one thing but... man... Robert Carlyle...

F*cking AWESOME. Two favorite things, Oblivion and the 28 series, having two of the most awesome parts ripped and put in another game...

I have no doubt I will play it if only to hear them do some awesome voice acting, especially Carlyle. I mean... He's REALLY an under appreciated actor in my book.

Delivered an amazing performance in 28 Weeks Later and easily one of the best zombie/biological fallout movie characters EVAR.

Tell me about it...this is the ultimate tease right now. I'm psyched for Uncharted 2, but Castlevania has always held a special place in my heart. Now I want a time machine, more than ever...

Lets hope Kojima productions can eek out something good from Mercurysteam, their previous games are hardly world beaters.
But yes, Patrick Stewart lending his gravelly tones do add a tremendous gravitas to the production, nice work getting Robert Carlyle too.

It looks awesome... Castlevania has never been that cinematic... dark, elegant... just great. It sounds a little off tho, musically speaking... more like Batman instead of Vania. Hope the in-game tunes don't miss the classic CV style.

Oh, and I keep asking myself... where's Igarashi? He got the boot after failing twice at a worthy 3D Vania?

@cafecito

I think Igarashi is working on a separate Castlevania title that's supposed to be starring Alucard which may or may not be a direct sequel to Symphony of the Night. Personally I think Igarashi has run his course creating Castlevania games. Everyone of them he's put out has been a clone of Symphony of the Night. I'm glad to see that Konami is trying to redo everything that was wrong with the first few 3D forays for Castlevania and make a true epic and awesome experience. Judging by the trailer alone this Castlevania looks like it could be one of the best!

Here's the link to the IGN article about Igarashi's original announcement from the Tokyo Game Show last holiday season.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/917/917967p1.html

There was a very short teaser trailer that featured a very familiar looking character which was a man with long white hair a fancy gothic victorian outfit with a cape wielding a sword. I saw the teaser clip off of IGN and I don't remember if joystiq covered the announcement but it's unmistakabley Alucard. Whether or not Igarashi's Castlevania was scrapped in favor of Castlevania:Lords of Shadow still remains to be seen. The trailer featuring Alucard wasn't very impressive. Lords of Shadow's trailer THAT was impressive. I think Igarashi's team needs to move onto other projects. The last few Castlevanias on the DS were quite boring and very uninspired. The 3D Castlevanias on both PS2 and Xbox were also very boring. The only cool thing about those games were the soundtracks. I'm just glad my favorite series is getting a reboot of sorts! I hope it's as good as it looks!

Here's a link to the youtube video from the Tokyo Game Show 2008. You'll see what I mean about uninspired....more proof that Igarashi needs to move on or take a break from creating the same thing over and over again. Even if the game he would have been (or is) making is in 3D he's just going to find a way to make it as boring as all the other more recent Castlevanias he's put out thus far.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODb3IWXVh7o

I think Hideo was given the job to do the new 3D Castlevania because Igarashi and his team couldn't produce a truly grand 3D gaming experience with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness (both of which were terribly boring).

Hey, thanks for the info RavenLord. I'm really thrilled about this new Castlevania "reboot" game, but if that "other" one really stars Alucard, I'm willing to give IGA a chance... I still can't get over SOTN. As you say, the TGS trailer (or whatever that was) relies too much on one's knowledge of the series; for newcomers, it must be the most vague, uninteresting trailer ever, and for us fans... it's not much more than that, actually. On the other side, Kojima really knows how to tease, and his trailer shows. His take on Vania looks impressive, fresh, moody, yet ... a little unfamiliar.
We'll see if Konami'll have the two titles coexist or if IGA's out of the game for good.

I wonder what happens. A pure-hearted widower (who just happens to be a TOTAL BAD ASS) sets off with hopes to bring back to life the wife that was so early taken from him by using a sketchy, mystical, magic item. Ah, the naivete of these fantasy heroes. I mean, come on, Harry Potter had the sense not to mess with that pebble.

Wait, did I just bring up Harry Potter on a gaming thread? Uh oh.

Okay, in all seriousness the game looks very promising. The visuals were totally sweet (watch the uncompressed version) and it has some serious chops in the voice acting department.

Well, there goes my fantasy of a DoS/SotN-like sequel on next gen systems... damn...

It looks like they are going back to that stupid whip shit again. Instead of being a sword collecting badass. That is where most of the joy came from in these games for me...the way the rewarded you for exploring and defeating new monsters that would net you new weapons--or new ways to play.

Sword collecting was of the main things i liked about SOTN and AoS.

I still remember how awesome it was to swing a huge fucken sword into enemies in AoS.

This looks tasty. Pretty sure there's room for this style and a more traditional CV on DS and PSP or whatever. Also, the action focus of the trailer doesn't mean there won't be any nice exploration or puzzles too.

The mask shown at the end of the video is the EXACT mask everyone has been trying to interpert as related to the new Metal Gear:whatever it is

Thank god this game is being watched over by someone like Hideo-san. When I first heard that MercurySteam was developing this title I had nothing but dread and disgust for it. They gave us the crappy titles known as "Scrapland" and "Clive Barker's: Jericho" which were two of the most terrible games out on the market. Judging from the trailer it looks as though Kojima Productions and MercurySteam are finally bringing us a true 3D Castlevania experience.

My only questions now are when is the exact release date? Who is the new "Lord of Shadow"? What happened to the "Vampire Killer" (The Belmont family whip for those of you who don't know what that is)? Will this game actually take you back into the title fortress that everyone has come to know and love for over 20 years now. It wouldn't be a Castlevania if the castle itself wasn't the last destination for the hero of the story. I'm excited!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO PLAY THIS GAME!!! Castlevania is my favorite series of all time!

Great cast. Robert Carlyle and Jason Isaacs are under-appreciated. And it's always nice to see Patrick Stewart's name too.

Also that trailer really got me pumped for the game. And it gives me some hope to see Kojima-san overlooking the project.

That...was hot. It's been SO long since I played a good Castlevania game. The DX Chronicles on PSP was the best thing since Symphony of The Night, but wow, I almost felt like a kid again looking at that trailer. Kojima Productions on Castlevania? That alone got my heart thumping. Gameplay looks a lot like God of War, with Castlevania flavor, so I hope it's not too similar, but I'm still excited.

I'm not going to get my hopes too high. Looks pretty, but a 3D brawler is not Castlevania. I was hoping for a 2D SotN game done in beautiful 3D..

Well I wouldn't call it a brawler, but for the most part Castlevania was an action-platformer with adventure elements (multiple paths and such). I'd say whipping buttloads of ghosts and goblins IS Castlevania.
