Huxley will not offer cross-platform play, goes free-to-play

Boo Won Kim told us during a presentation of ijji.com's upcoming offerings that, "At this point, yes, [Huxley is] microtransaction supported." We then asked whether or not the cross-platform component of the game -- once it's main selling point -- had been cut. Andy Hong confirmed to us the fact, though he added that that's only the case "at this point." Considering how long the game has been in development -- and the heavily twitch-movement focused gameplay -- we're putting our money on the cross-platform functionality never returning.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm still bat-shit-crazy about this game for some bloody reason.
Duke @ Jun 4th 2009 12:06PM
The interest in it is diminishing for me. They need to do some things to impress us all soon!
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 4th 2009 1:16PM
Yeah I'm going to have to disagree with you... to quote Bill from L4D: "Bull F***ING HORSE SH*T"
If you've ever checked out ijji's games, they're very much dinky "BUY THIS CRAP" games. They're fun, sure, but I hate microtransactions with a passion. I have a hard time getting over monthly fees already.
There goes my hype down the toilet. ;_;

It's surprising that there was a time where I was actually excited about this game.
Now? not so much.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jun 4th 2009 1:23PM
Well once you see games like MAG doing something similar, Huxley kinda loses its charm.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 4th 2009 12:09PM
The last impressions that they did for Huxley all but killed my interest in this game. These impressions have just put the finishing touches on that interest. Huxley is dead to me now.
jondastunna84 @ Jun 4th 2009 12:10PM

wonderweazel @ Jun 4th 2009 12:52PM

Final Fantasy XI is the only MMO that comes to mind that is cross platform--(PS2/PS3, X360, PC). I think Final Fantasy XIV will be as well.
waynski1457 @ Jun 4th 2009 12:21PM
Considering how well this formula works for a bunch of other ijji games, it still seems good.
Just hope they're strict on keeping the hackers out (I'm looking at you Gunz!).
The_Punisher @ Jun 4th 2009 12:27PM
I remember when this was an AAA title....
2005 was it?
Neuromancer @ Jun 4th 2009 12:37PM
Wait, free to play on the 360? I'll believe it when I see it.
Matt @ Jun 4th 2009 12:55PM
I think "free to play" as in no monthly subscription on top of the automatic XBL Gold membership.
Neuromancer @ Jun 4th 2009 12:56PM
Oh OK that makes sense.
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 4th 2009 5:17PM
Free-to-play means the game is free to play. There is no base price. The game is based off of microtransactions. Just go to ijji.com, download the game for free, then start playing.
VampireHunter Z @ Jun 4th 2009 12:58PM
What does "twitch-movement" mean? I just never got it.

umm....hello??? @ Jun 4th 2009 1:31PM
microtransaction based "at this point"......so they could possibly make it subscription based in the future? I'm partially interested again because I don't want subscription based games--however, I also don't want to be outgunned by someone with $100 worth of microtransactions.....
Duke @ Jun 4th 2009 2:00PM
Free to play*!
(*Unless you want a gun, clothes, vehicles, pets, virtual houses, the ability to move, textures, sound and whatever else.)
Vcize @ Jun 4th 2009 1:31PM
I guess this guy's name is "Boo" for a reason.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 4th 2009 3:00PM
free to play, this kiss of failure for an MMO
SuckItTrebek @ Jun 4th 2009 10:23PM
The flying rodent speaks truth! "You get what you pay for" REALLY applies with MMOs.
melbolt65 @ Jun 4th 2009 3:18PM
I have tried free, monthly subscription, as well as the micro-transaction model and my favorite was always the monthly subscription model, though there are some pretty good free ones but I don't like it when the person who is willing to shell out the most cash gets the advantage in a game, I think most people would rather just pay a monthly subscription.
Kevin949 @ Jun 4th 2009 3:27PM
it keeps it mostly fair in the melting pot with a monthly fee for all.
fallout3isthebestgameever @ Jun 5th 2009 12:48PM
I could deal with big Coca Cola billboards, and Fila slogans all over my cyber-armor, But they need to figure out how to make this game free.
