I've had 3 copies but people kept borrowing and moving away. or something
I got it a new copy off amazon marketplace for under $20 not too long ago.
This is by far the best FF in my opinion.

If others don't take care of their old games then yes. These discs aren't old enough to have degraded on their own so it's obviously had some abuse.

though many people might still have the discs, it is nice that you can put it on your PSP. Also for many gamers, this is their first time ever playing these games. One of my friends just started gaming 2 years ago and loved Crisis Core, now they can enjoy FF7 as well on their PSP.

If you have the discs, you can easily and legally rip them to ISO to play on your PSP.
Don't pay the $10 download!!!!

Yes it is; you own the machine. Distributing the software can, and is, fought against if it facilitates piracy.

Too little... to late, too expensive.

Granted, it's cool to be able to play them on my PS3, but why would I pay money to get what I have for free. I don't mean pirating. But legally, I'm allowed to own/play any ROM that I already own in CD format. In turn, I've been playing all my old PS1 games for some time now both on PSP and on PC. I'm now supposed to pay $9.99 a pop to play them on PS3? Screw that. That's why I have an AV cable to connect the PSP to my TV. LOL.

Not to mention, but 90% of these old-school games stink after the initial nostalgia wears off.
(Ok, I could play MGS1 over and over. But I can't think of any other PS1 game that I'd play for more than a little bit, except maybe the original Ridge Racer [that rocked]).

Good for you. I no longer have most of my old PS1 collection and purchasing a copy of FF7 in disc form on the second hand market is much more expensive than paying $10 for a download. So, this is perfect for me.

I would love for them to add some of the Tecmos Deception games and Jedi Power Battles.

Exactly, there are enough games that are still great today. Also, spoiler: Not everyone bought MGS first time round, myself included.

Sooo... how are we supposed to look up meryl's codec frequency, ya know, the one that the game tells you to look for on the back of the box? I guess they could just change that completely and give you the frequency in game.

maybe just google it ... i don't know ... but, I have this game so no worries for me. I tried playing it a few times recently and the camera angle is tough to adjust to after playing it in a true third person view.

These classic games come with the full color manual built in. Maybe they can put a scan of the back of the box in at the end of that? How does the Japanese version do it?

Well When i last played MGS on PSP i found out there's a few ways.

1) you can google it

2) if you bug the Colonel enough he tells you

3) Get the old manual and look on the back.

Good news, but I really don't like that $10 is the new price for big name titles these days.

Thumbs down at the $9.99 price point. I'm also disappointed that they're bringing out the "original" as opposed to the far superior Gamecube remake by Silicon Knights (though that might have more to do with ownership rights).

Nonetheless, the more Sony classics the better, it's just ashame they didn't maintain the much friendlier 4.99/5.99 price points...

The original Metal Gear Solid is far superior in all aspects other than graphics.

The remake was terrible and it was pretty much pointless to remake such a cinematic game only 5 years after it came out. Keeping the original script and then changing all the cinematics was a bad idea because 40 minutes after Snake tells Naomi it's hard to move around in his sneaking suit, he's doing backflips off a missile.

I hated how they dropped all the accents from the characters except for Liquid, even though his accent was easily the fakest one. Plus the voice acting in general was probably the worst performance out of the cast as a whole, they all seemed like they had no interest in re-recording the same lines again. To top it off they changed Gray Fox's voice actor.

The gameplay took the hardest beating because of the inclusion of first person shooting, which the levels were clearly not designed for at all, making the game ridiculously easy, when it was all ready easy enough in the first place. Then remove all the VR Missions and you've got yourself the worst version of the Shadow Moses incident you can possibly experience.

Also, why would they port a Gamecube game as a PS1 Classic?

I bought the 3 pack for 20 doll hairs. It came with Metal Gear Solid, MGS2 and MGS3. Although I prefer MGS3 Sub which I also have.

MGS was the very first game I beat. I replayed it completely about 7 times. Then my friend showed me how to stick c4 on an enemies back, throw him over the railing into the lava (on the last levels) and then blow the c4 just before he hits. Good times.

If Sony releases a PS1 game every Thursday and thats "if" we could be close to 100 PS1 games by the end of the year. It only took Sony two years to bring PS1 games over here to the States while Japan has been getting PS1 games every single week.

If I had a PSP I would buy this game only cause I want Silent Hill from Konami even Contra and other games I missed out on. $10 is cheap but as I have the MGS Collection for PS2 with all three games, I'll pass on it.

I suspect they're $9.99 because the original games were multi-disc. That said, I'd like to see how they deal with the "disc switching" bit in the PS3/P version.

probably the same as they did in the FFVII PSP/PS3 version (never beat that game, can't be bothered to play it on an HDTV, totally loving it on PSP); you press the PS key, and you can "switch discs" there.

I know it will be coming soon blah blah blah, but it seems like the EU allways gets the short end of the stick, when it comes to games/technology releases with sony.

I have a 60gb, so I can buy it, but its like what happened with socom.........We still haven't got any news on whether there's going to a vid store on the EU PSN store; it's been a year E3 finished and no word?????

@Jonathan - That's a pretty ignorant comment, clearly Super Mario RPG is made by Nintendo (along with all Mario titles) therefore would not likely ever appear on a Sony console (or Microsoft for that matter).

@Gillifgno - I won't address all your other points, because they're irrelevant, but I will address your final note about it being a Gamecube title. You are correct, a PS1 Classic is just that, a classic PS1 title. My point was more aimed at saying they should port that game to the PSN (or XBLA or Virtual Console) because in my opinion it was a superior game. Obviously, there are many hurdles for this to happen: the rights to MGS: Twin Snakes are likely owned in part by Konami, Silicon Knights (who are now owned by Microsoft) and Nintendo. Either way, my observation was more an "In My Opinion" point; my apologies if that was lost on you.
