It's not for everyone, in the sense that some people suck.

This, Heavy Rain, and Katamari Forever make me want a PS3. I was so disappointed that they didn't announce a price drop at E3. I'll keep my fingers crossed for one soon. Hard to justify the purchase when I already have a 360 and a wii.

We'll see...I'm not holding my breath anymore, though. When is TGS?

I just love the Katamari games, and Beautiful Katamari was really short.

I played Katamari on PS2. It was a cool game to play because of being so unique...but I wouldn't classify that series as a system seller.

TGS usually happens sometime in September. Sony typically loves that conference more than the others =P, but hey... can't argue with the giantorness that is 3E.

Free access to play your games online - only reason you would need. Ditch XBL.

Wow... Just wow. That game is definitely the top PS3 release this year in my opinion. Sony is very lucky to have Naughty Dog in their corner!

I've been playing the beta. The competitive is a little slower and more tactical. It's a lot like MGO. The co-op is like a mix of RE5 and Uncharted. Instead of a 2 player team, there' three. It's awesome!

I'm in the same boat. The game is really pretty and whatnot, but I don' t see the appeal to it. Basic controls, a neat little cover system, a short game. And that was really all I experienced. The Uncharted 2 beta is pretty nice. Cover system is still pretty neat, but I just don't see what everyone sees in this game.

I like that the writer here talked about Drake's actions. Bringing some ethos to what our hero is doing. Very nice, yet subtle observations and thoughts. I also like that the Naughty Dog writers brought back "last year's model". She went through some harrowing things with him-- are we to forget her? Naughty Dog says no-- we care about emotional continuity. This is very important, in art, especially in a new genre like modern video games. Who has done this, before? Count fingers.

And lastly, I like that the scope of things was pointed out, by this writer. The artists of Naughty Dog have some of the best cinematic scope of any game creators I've seen. I recall a part in Jak 2, (ps2) an ureasonably hard game (for me), where they would come into these areas and you would see this huge machinery around them, or you would see immense monoliths, things created by the inhabitants of this realm. The immense-ness of what they were involved in felt not just visceral and real, it felt strangely beatific; massive girders made by whatever civilization, things of stone and metal, an artifice in the distance, sounds, and wind, while we wend our way. And, back then, almost unheard of, and rarely accomplished successfully, Naughty Dog, on the ps2, had dynamic weather, great architecture, great jokes, a great story-- even when you look at the very first one-- play it again, the original Jak & Daxter (which I also found way too hard for my 30+ self, but rewarding), the lighting, the sets, the camera angles-- and at times when you thought you were just playing a game, but there was a director, so that you were in this huge play.

Naughty Dog have always done this the best of Insomniac and Sucker Punch, despite those studios' own tremendous strengths-- but N.D. was always too hard, and cost too much time, too many replays and attempts to fight something, to see their hard-earned work. Now I think an older generation will get to enjoy them as never before, and it is so exciting. If they can play into a certain psychosis of Drake, as the writer of this blog suggests, they could have a masterpiece. I think it's too late for that, on this game, but in terms of today's games, I think we can all agree that the first Drake was an amazing game, on all levels, and that this will be more of the same. Once they hit the psychological element questioned by the author above, and explore that in an empathetic way, we will see games which don't just stimulate us or make us salivate over the technology involved-- we will see games which make us sob. Will Naughty Dog do this? I don't know-- but I know they're laying the ground work and the talent involved here is some of the best in the world.
