The girl *is* the sword, or so the most popular theories speculate. I mean, look at her. The head and dress form the hilt perfectly, then the pommel stone on the chest, then the legs as the blade

So what, you grab her head and swing her around? Wouldn't that cause some severe whiplash?

Wow, I think you have a point there after all Link doesn't have his sword on his back.

That's a pretty good theory.

Given the posture of Link in the picture, since he is looking over his shoulder and displaying his back side (which doesn't seem to have a sheath anywhere). Then the female character is standing there.

Also, note the lack of a sword in Link's hand.

A lot of people on GoNintendo and Kotaku think her head is the blade. I think that's just dumb. The other way around makes much more sense.

@JXCgunrunna - No Miyamoto simply said that in the picture notice Link doesnt have a sword not that he wouldnt have a sword for the game unless you got a link to an interview that i haven't read yet.

@time - Well her head is sliver and comes to a point like a blade plus her legs have the same pattern as the handle of the MasterSword.

Her head IS shaped like the blade, with the raised portions in the middle and the edges to the sides. That said, he dress really does look like the hilt... I think it doesn't really matter, she's just supposed to be evocative of the MS overall.

I dunno, I think the Zelda narrative is way, way too shallow to read that much into it.

remember guys that it's just concept art. Judging from this one rendering it's safe to say the sword is alive and is female.

what if shes not JUST the sword, but all your attack weapons?

Or maybe shes the personification of the hint system...

Am I the only one that thinks she looks sort of like Midna?

I agree with what was previously said though; This isn't Team Ico we are talking about. Reading between the lines has been a bad idea before. I recall a certain teaser image of Twilight Princess in which a girl was in a black hooded outfit, and people were all "ohhhhh crapppp that is the traditional funeral dress of *insert culture here* I wonder who diedddddddd" and then it turned out that it was just an outfit (shocking).

I'm a bit worried that Miyamoto said he'd like to "show" Zelda next year (meaning at E3 I assume). Does that mean a late 2010 release date?

@ BananaBoat

He said he wanted to have it ready for sometime in 2010, yes. Ready to show and ready to ship

I would look to the Fall Media Summit, hopefully they have another in October this year

He said he WANTED to that doesn't mean he'll be able to. I heard he was hesitant to set 2010 in stone, so it's very possible it'll fall back into 2011.

I think this has been in development since before Twilight Princess was out, so it should be ready 2010.

@Banana: I'd assume this will be Nintendo's big game of E3 a year from now - so yes, end of 2010 if we're really lucky, otherwise 2011. Zelda games usually slip...

Art is nice, but I'll wait to form an opinion about the actual game :)

What if she's not a sword at all, what if she's a pole arm? That would explain the pointy head and the narrow legs.

Wasn't links hat already a bird? Does his sword need to be a little ghost girl?

I liked when this series was a bit more straight forward.

This. Forget the pseudo-realistic graphics a la Twilight Princess, a painting-like art style similar to the last Prince of Persia game would be PERFECT for a Zelda game.

I would say nothing until October, at the absolute earliest. I mean, last year, they revealed Wii Sports Resort at E3, then didn't say a single thing about it until early April this year. Pikmin 3 got a mention at last E3, then a single mention this year (and only because Shiggy was prodded)

sigh
