We were obviously far too busy at E3 last week to watch Conan O'Brien take over Jay Leno's post on The Tonight Show, and look what we missed: O'Brien's backdrop bears an uncanny resemblance to Super Mario Bros. Coincidence? Probably not, when one of your band members looks a lot like Mario in a Panama hat.
Serious Lunch noticed this and did some nice work in Photoshop, and seeing it come to life in video only makes us wish it was his actual backdrop. Head beyond the break to see the video, which sadly does not feature Andy Richter as Bowser.
I think the point is that the people coming to this site are expecting to find everything they want here - who wants to spend another 30 seconds searching out a video when they came to this site expecting everything to be here. If that is the case, maybe those people will go elsewhere where they can read the article and see the video in the same page. That would not be joystiq because they would then lose viewership and precious ad revenue.
That being said, the real issue (which has been pointed out already) with non-US residents not being able to view Hulu is due to the contracts with TV networks in other countries and if people really want to see it, then they are going to have to complain to those TV networks. Personally, proxy surfing is my preferred method to circumvent the issue but not everything is up to speed on that so it's not really a viable option.
What I'm saying is that AOL owns weblogs so obviously they want their sites to be using a service that scratches the back of their partners rather than a service that nets them zero profit or favor.
Kinda like me and Dark Wayne on the comments. Except I'm Conan and he's Andy. Like Jake and the Fatman. I'm Jake and he's the Fatman. Sometimes vise-versa. Sometimes.
I never thought about the Mario Bros. angle, I thought (mostly due to the art deco) that it resembled Rapture from Bioshock. The bit he did about the backdrop was funny though.
Mario's first adventure sends him on a rescue mission through the Mushroom Kingdom, as he must survive eight worlds to save Princess Toadstool from the evil Bowser.
