Gearbox has confirmed its casual E3 mention to Joystiq that it plans to release Borderlands this October. A company representative told us today that it's looking forward to breaking new ground this fall when the "role-playing shooter with strong co-op and split-screen gameplay" is released. The rep also confirmed that the post-apocalyptic action game will launch simultaneously on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Borderlands had been banging around for a while, then disappeared for an awkward period of time before ultimately reemerging – think: butterfly – with a new art style, which freshened up the title and removed it from "Fallout clone" territory. We'll have our E3 impression of the title up soon.

An open world game like Fallout but with loot like a Diablo game sold me on this right away, and it actually seems like a game I would go out of my way to play co op for once. Lookin forward to it.

I would have preferred the Fallout clone style graphics, the screenshots for it when it was revealed in Game Informer were waaaaaay better than this. If anything, the levels of gray and brown have gotten worse, the originals were some of the best graphics I'd ever seen. Don't really care for the billions of weapon combination's if they're all in that style

I agree. But I am still open to this art direction - I will make my own final verdict once I see this style in motion, because some of those screenshots look ugly with heavy black outlines.

It's going to be like GTA and Fallout 3 had a baby that was born with lootitis. You're going to be in an open world with RPG like missions that will help you level up your character. Unlike RPGs though this game is skill based so there's no dice rolls when you pull the trigger. There's going to be a loot system with thousands of item possibilities that keep you and your co-op buddies coming back for more. Did I mention I'm really looking forward to this game?

I'm starting to actually care about this game now that I know what genre it is, how did I not see that in every other post I've read here?
