Keep Samurai Showdown to its 2-D roots PLEASE people. Namco beat them to the 3-D weapons fighter and now it will only be seen as a pale comparison to Soul Edge/Calibur. If anything, then pull a SF4 and make it 3D but actually 2D.

After the disaster that was soul calibur 4, there's more than enough room for SNK to come in and show Namco how to not cock things up.

Isn't it funny the original Neo-Geo is still in moderate use, in arcades, to this very day - almost 20 years after it's release - Talk about a shelf life!

Yet the Hyper Neo 64 died a quick, painful, death?

If SNK would've released the home Neo-Geo for about $150 cheaper, and release the game carts at reasonble prices, most of us would still be playing them, even today.

I'd still be playing mine that's for sure. High prices, mail orders in a time when the internet was a twinkle in Al Gore's eye, and cartridges the size of a small dog are what led to us selling our Neo Geo for a 3DO...big mistake. I look back fondly on those giant cartridges now. The Neo Geo was easily in my top 3 favorite consoles of all time.

You could take your memory card and use it in the arcade...those were the days. Now get off my lawn.

Because these aren't the characters we know and love from SS. They are soulless, 3D machines. Look at how shiny they all are! It's a dead giveaway!

Yes, may exact thought.

I don't mind the 3D, but remain faithful to the game, like capcom did with SF4.

No blood, no art work, no beautiful environments.... what's left?

"What's left?" I'm finally ponying up the $10 to buy Samurai Shodown II on XBLA, since it appears to be the only 2D SS goodness we're likely to receive anytime in the relatively near future.

Please don't release this and destroy all the good memory of it! Soul Calibur has totally taken SS over and done it 100x better at the moment. From the graphic perspective, this looks like a rushed job...where are all the colors? All objects looks very dull and not a lot of lighting. Where are the textures? Don't just do a half job and put it on the shelf, not even a hardcore gamer would but this....

"Soul Calibur has totally taken SS over and done it 100x better at the moment." Um... what moment are you living in? I'm living in a post-SCIV moment, where Namco completely broke the franchise, crapped all over it, and killed it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. This doesn't look like Samurai Shodown at all.

This looks like Soul Calibur in a samurai skin.

With a viking.

...Whaaaat is this? What have they done with my franchise and why do I look like a plastic toy?

On the other hand, I do get to fight Ukyo again.. along with.. a viking! Hmm.

..Um, yeah. In all seriousness, I was expecting something much better from Samurai Shodown after the greatness of KoFXII. Obviously, I'll wait for the finished object before I pass judgment, but I can't shake this feeling of disappointment at SNK taking such a different approach to SS.

I looked at that first screen shot before reading any of the article and thought "Samurai Showdown looking like Bushido Blade." BB was a cool, now somewhat forgotten game.

Samurai Showdown FTW. This game will be amazing. All haters need to get back to Tekken. Showdown is for real gamers. Oh yeah Soul Calibur IV was amazing. People who think it sucks are no good at the game, unless they are not into fighting games. If they are they should challenge me.

Oh yeah.

柳生 十兵衞 三厳 FTW.

You idiot.

The main objection is that it's now more like Tekken, and they did a bad job on the 3D as well.

Not jumping to conclusions, but based solely on reviews, this game is absolutely nothing like its 2D predecessors. Could it still be a good game? Perhaps. I haven't played it yet; have you?

My complaints pretty much stem from the fact that it appears they've taken Samurai Spirits and turned it into Soul Calibur. As much as I like SC, I was hoping for the next SS game to take an approach similar to King of Fighters XII or even Street Fighter IV, with its 2.5D approach that still manages to retain a hand-drawn look on its characters. As I said before, I'll wait to actually play the game before giving a final judgment, but regardless, I hope this is to be a spin-off and that we haven't seen the last of 2D Samurai Spirits.

I'm not making any negative comments about the game... just because I'm really glad there's gonna be another SS game to look forward to. In this days when fighting games are almost a niche genre, and titles are far and in between, a new entry in a classic franchise is well received. Besides, the fatalities look kinda cool :D

Shame shame shame.

I don't mind the 3D. But the thing is they made it really bad.

Capcom on the other hand, made it brilliantly.

Damn, I hate it when a 360 game comes out that actually looks good. I'm not into sci-fi games or tur-based RPGs, so thankfully it doesn't happen often. This'll be my first green box since Onechanbara... :(

As one of very few fans of Warriors Rage on Playstation 1 (even over Samurai Spirits 4 on the Neo Geo), I will most likely be picking up this game.

Time will tell if the game is any good... but I doubt it'll measure up to the underappreciated awesomeness of SS64: Warriors Rage (not the PlayStation game).

I saw this post, and went.. hmm samurai showdown.. cool.. ok 3D .. interesting.. .. Bushido Blade comparison!!! what! I had to read on.. Unfortunately, as in any description where someone describes their game by a combination of 3 very different styles of fighter, you get a mish mash of junk.

I'm especially disappoined that the bushido blade tie in is some instant kill feature only accessible in the second round of a fight.. total crap.. not even the point of bushido blade..
