I have the Secret of Monkey Island sitting right next to me on my desk.

Never played it in my life lol. Is it fun?

(My aunt gave it to me a while ago and I never opened it)

From everything I've heard, I'm pretty exciting for some humorous adventu-gaming.

Ok where are the Monkey Island movies? I'm absolutely THRILLED that we're seeing a new Monkey Island (and yes nobody can play Guybrush Threepwood other than Dominic Armato)

Am I the only one who thinks that the Monkey Island games are perfect for the silver screen? I absolutely LOVED these games from way back in the day. I still have the original for the IBM stored away in a box somewhere. The humor in all the games was priceless! Lucasfilm should think about turning these into movies. If they copy the games dialogue and wit exactly and get a great cast these could be an awesome series to see in movie form!

Hooray for more Monkey Island!!!!

I don't know about letting Monkey Island get into the grubby mittens of Hollywood. They'd probably cast Brendan Frasier as Guybrush Threepwood.

I initially read your post as: "Lucas should think about turning these into movies." That made me cry a bit.

There's a Monkey Island play. Is that good enough?

I think the Pirates of the Caribbean movies lifted a number of things from the Monkey Island games. When I saw Johnny Depp using a coffin as a boat, I about shit my pants. But that was more to do with what I ate that day (coffee and raisin bran) than to do with the movie.

@Big: if I'm thinking about what you're thinking about, that YouTube play wasn't an official play; it was just a bunch of high school students screwing around with the Secret of Monkey Island plot.

. . . or at least I really, really, really hope so.

Murray:"I will stride through the gates of Hell holding your head on a pike!"

Guybrush: "Stride?"

Murray: "OK, roll, roll through the gates of Hell (must you ruin everything?)!"

Murray truly is a crazy character.

Murray is awesome. I hope they give the same treatment to whole trilogy.

I've only played the first two Monkey Island games for PC. I loved the first, don't remember much about the second.

All the Monkey Islands are godlike, with Escape being slightly less so, but still good.

Interesting they brought CoMI's Elaine back and not Escape's. I did miss the accent, so I'm happy.

Now all we need are the original writers.

They actually have them. Or at least some: Dave Grossman was one of the main designers of the first few versions, and Ron Gilbert contributed with some brainstorming too.

I'm the biggest Monkey Island fan in the world and I'm glad I'll be able to play the original in newer graphics and a voice cast on my 360 but I REALLY wished this was coming to XBLA. Seems kind of weird to JUST release a remake but not Tales for 360.

I will take new Monkey Island content anyway I can get it. It would be cool if it was on XBLA.

I like the idea, but Monkey Island (or any point and click adventure) is just not the same without the mouse. I have played a couple of the older ones on SCUMMvm using different systems, and I always find myself missing the mouse. I guess I just spent too much time as a kid glued to my computer trying to figure out if I could use stuff on other stuff. Good times...

SO glad that Dominic Armato is returning as Guybrush, but did you not hear that TERRIBLE voice they have for LeChuck in the trailer? God, I hope that's a temporary track.

Couldn't they have got Earl Boen to reprise his role? He was fantastic as LeChuck in Curse of Monkey Island! The new voice sounds like the got Random Joe from the Marketing department to record the voice so they didn't have to pay a true voice actor.

I'd be even more excited if this was coming out for the 360 or the PS3. I'm not looking forward to having to find a place to hook up my dust magnet Wii to play these.

MY GOD MY EYES. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BURN THEM SO, GUYBRUSH?

Having Dominic back is awesome though.. and as for the Voodoo Lady and LeChuck, I can't actually remember them too much, so as long as they don't suck completely I shouldn't have any issues adjusting to them.

But seriously, Guybrush's character model just is not that great (although the article shot looks better than that earlier one released). Biggest problem I forsee is that he's just not going to be very expressive.

Yeah, the telltale character-models seem to be very limited in terms of expressiveness. Also, 2 of the 3 pirates in this gameplay demonstration have the same face, only with different skin colors: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6211409/?tag=top_stories;play_btn;17

I pre-ordered this as soon as I heard of it. I'm so excited for a new game, that I honestly don't care how LeChuck sounds. As long as I have Murray and Guybrush, I don't care. As for the art... eh. I loved the animation from the Curse of Monkey Island, but this isn't bad. I'm just so stoked the series isn't dead!

The odd thing about Earl Boen and... I don't remember the Voodoo Lady's voice actress... not returning is that both have returned to do the Secret of Monkey Island remake.

You can hear this by watching various gameplay videos of the remake on Youtube.
