Play Gerard Butler in Gamer
In the horrifying world of the film Gamer, sweatpants-wearing nobodies are given the ability to control actual prisoners in the world's most visceral first-person shooter. That's right, someone's finally taken the leap and mixed The Most Dangerous Game with The Wizard and InnerSpace. Oh, and they put Gerard Butler in it!
We especially enjoy the film's official description which says its "set in a near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid." Wait, gaming and entertainment? Together? What hath God wrought?

But is Super Mario Bros. 3 going to be revealed at the end?
Garvey @ Jun 10th 2009 8:32AM
Prolly, and they'll be using the Powerglove to play it.
ArchiGamer @ Jun 9th 2009 11:05PM
An opus of the coming future of games?
Temidien @ Jun 9th 2009 11:05PM
When I saw the trailer in theaters I literally sank in my seat. For a whole 2 minutes, I was embarrassed to be a gamer.
Then I went home, fired up COD4, and all was well in the world XD
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Jun 10th 2009 2:37AM
In my country, Gerard Butler plays you.
Snipermike @ Jun 9th 2009 11:10PM
If they really want to capture the essence of gaming in the movie. The kid controlling Gerard Butler will teabag everyone he kills and talk trash about everyone's mom.
Dirty @ Jun 9th 2009 11:20PM
don't forget the racism.
ArchiGamer @ Jun 9th 2009 11:23PM
and calling other people gay or using the word..
Temidien @ Jun 10th 2009 8:04AM
Is it wrong that I really wanna see Butler teabag someone now? Does that make me a gay n00b?
Velsar @ Jun 9th 2009 11:11PM
I really wouldn't be surprised if gaming ever evolved into something like this, or similar to the running man.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:22PM
If full Body control gets implemented as a standard in the next generation of consoles we are a decade away from something like this.
Cody @ Jun 9th 2009 11:33PM
@Manly Mcbeefington
Well, Natal uses your full body as a controller...so maybe we're less than a decade away from this.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:43PM
Natal I think is scheduled for next year so I don't think we'll see FPS using body control until the next circle of consoles if it becomes a standard.
OLDMIKE @ Jun 9th 2009 11:53PM
if you realy think it will be out next year you must be on some good stuff
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:58PM
That's why I added [I think] as in maybe, open as a possibility, a perhaps.
The sooner is implemented the sooner we'll see something like this.

I'm sorry but I never thought I'd get to use the clip on Joystiq
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 10th 2009 12:06AM
my God man tell me you dont watch TMZ!
Obie @ Jun 9th 2009 11:15PM
THIS....IS....POWNAGE!
I feel bad for Gerard, he was good in 300, but has been in non-stop crappy movies since then. He needs a new agent.
cuteSAVAGE @ Jun 9th 2009 11:19PM
PS I love You was great.
Also how can you not like a Guy Ritchie film? RocknRolla was brilliant!!!!
Obie @ Jun 9th 2009 11:22PM
Meh, Rocknrolla, was not that great. Tho Mark Strong was good in that one.
cuteSAVAGE @ Jun 9th 2009 11:33PM
Aye, Strong was fantastic. He made that film. Toby Kebbell as well, one of my favorite performances ever.
Riley @ Jun 9th 2009 11:54PM
i thought it was one of his best movies, up there with his 1st 2 (I liked Revolver, too, but it was a different kind of movie)
Mikey @ Jun 10th 2009 1:01AM
I liked him in RocknRolla as well. That and 300 were the only good movies he has starred in.
But this movie might fail more than Ludacris' acting career, which oddly enough, is in this movie.
ignfan69 @ Jun 9th 2009 11:21PM
I'm new to joystiq, and this advertisement passed off as news kinda ruins the site for me. Am I to expect to put up with all kinds of "covert" ads like this?
Turd Ferguson @ Jun 9th 2009 11:23PM
you have joystiq figured out
Triscuit @ Jun 9th 2009 11:25PM
Or perhaps it's just supposed to be a humorous post?
mr nimblewick @ Jun 9th 2009 11:32PM
I guess I don't understand. Doesn't that make every post an advertisement for something?
This_Time @ Jun 9th 2009 11:37PM
Joystiq is a weblog offering news about video game *products*. These are things you buy, so I guess if offering news about a product is considered an advertisement, then yes, expect it all you want. You won't be disappointed, and you won't see much else.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:45PM
Yeah down with the man and his hate machine.
If you are not indie f**k you!

Please stop downvoting this guy. Someone named "IGN Fan" is expressing deep concern about the confluence of advertising and editorial content.
Entertainment this rich must be plainly visible to the whole world.
Blank-Mage @ Jun 10th 2009 12:43AM
Copa gets 4 hearts.
ArchiGamer @ Jun 10th 2009 1:30AM
Yeah, Fuck Joystiq and their ads! I'm going to IGN or Gametrailers or 1UP where there are no ads!
aristokrat @ Jun 10th 2009 4:00PM
I'm guessing you're also new to a good reply-chain inbox thrashing. Open wide, here comes da wittle airpwane...
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jun 9th 2009 11:23PM
I can confirm that in the near future, entertainment will be synonymous with watching prisoners kill each other for sport. It does wonders for prison populations and crime rates but never gets crossed with video games. That is pure fantasy.
Once the world runs out of prisoners, FOX starts up American Idol again, but they kill the bad singers in gruesome death traps. Coincidentally, the Great Killbot Uprising happens about that time.
Good luck with that, 21st century!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:32PM
I just can't stop reading that in the proffesor's voice.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 9th 2009 11:46PM
I replied to the wrong comment :/
Why did you change your avatar? The other one was perfect.
Shmil @ Jun 10th 2009 12:26AM
But the killbots will be easily vanquished. They have a set kill limit and will shut down once they reach that limit. All we have to do is send waves after waves of troops to their death and they will be defeated.
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jun 10th 2009 9:03AM
My Illudium PU-36 Expansive Voice Modulator is working perfectly, then! You can't help but read these comments in the sound of my voice!
And to think that young upstart Wernstrom said it couldn't be done.
Triscuit @ Jun 9th 2009 11:23PM
So, Death Race without the cars. Got it.
Shmil @ Jun 10th 2009 12:29AM
Odd... i replied to the wrong one as well. This be witchcraft.
mars @ Jun 9th 2009 11:39PM
will this movie about a game in which a gamer plays a real person have a horrible movie tie in game, too?
*fingers crossed*
CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 9th 2009 11:50PM
So, I can play as a dude who's playing as another dude who's actually real but programmed to be an avatar? I think this game will be better with hallucinogens.
ChuckBartowski @ Jun 10th 2009 12:05AM
Lol. PS9. Anyone remeber that commercial?
aristokrat @ Jun 10th 2009 4:03PM
I do, at least, for I asked the same question last week. Sadly, I think it's just the two of us, but we can make it if we try...
ChuckBartowski @ Jun 10th 2009 4:52PM
lol. Yeah, if anyone has no idea what im talking about, just search ps9 on youtube. its not that hard.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 10th 2009 12:05AM
i hope this gets a game tie in, just for the metaness
mars @ Jun 10th 2009 12:29AM
yeah haha thats what my comment said. that'd be hilarious
Blank-Mage @ Jun 10th 2009 12:48AM
I think The Sims has my meta quota filled already, thanks. I'm watching me play video games in a video game I'm playing...
mars @ Jun 10th 2009 1:53AM
