"I'd love to live in a world with fewer leaks and more meat," said SCEA's head of hardware marketing, John Koller, to Ars Technica on the circulating murmurs of a PS3 slim model. Koller admits Sony has had "a certain amount of frustration" with rumors that a slim-lined PS3 will hit retailers in the fall and he thinks it's more important to focus on the certainty of the present than the possibilities of the future.
Koller calls it a matter of what "may or may not happen," which is interesting, since he's not flat out denying it nor is he outright laying down the "does not comment on rumor/speculations" angle. Could it be that the slim model is real, though now with the beans spilled, Sony will postpone its release plans? Surmountable evidence suggests that it is, and even Koller's wording in the interview (read: use of "leak," not "rumor") fuels this thought.

I'd be frustrated as hell if I were Sony too. For once, crap is happening to them that isn't their fault. Almost everything at E3 leaked, and now this, which he pretty much confirmed.
At least the sweet video footage of the orb motion controller didn't leak before E3. I gotta say, that's my highlight. That ugly orb wand controller has so much potential I'm surprised it hasn't popped.

it just might have BC. now i'm a Sony supporter but wouldn't it be a HUGE dick move if they removed BC earlier cause they knew they would bring it back in a later model just to use it as the main selling point of that new model?

Obviously its coming out, or else someone has gone to incredible lengths to fool us all. Plus it synergizes with PSP Go!
They might as well announce it now, get the hype train rolling. Especially in Japan. The slim and FFXIII are going to really give Nintendo a run for their money

They are already giving Nintendo a run for their money without FF & the slim. If they drop the perfect storm of a redesigned SKU and bundle it with FF or release it wound the same time they will catapult into the stratosphere. I think the PSP GO is also going to be huge in Japan because they eat that kind of stuff up. Everything is lining up for them. But, like my mom always said if it's meant to be it's up to me. They are the ones who need to have a plan and not deviate from said plan. They are established and things are looking up for them this year.

i really wish they'd stop posting that fake box. it's photoshopped to the extent that a blind person could tell.
the black on the top of the ps3 does not match the rest of the colors on the box and it's spotty. someone grabbed the brush tool and clicked a few times.

I'd like a PS3 slim but I'd like a PS3 mini more (small overall instead of just flat).

Not totally sold on the box art. If you look where the box would crease part of the PS3 picture would be folded up to the top. I don't know though just my 2 cents.

Well if the psp GO tells us anything, the slim PS3 will launch for $600.
C'mon, you know they're not going to release the slim one for anything cheaper than what they currently have the prices set at, it will be more. The question then becomes: how much more?

This is different than the go. The purpose of the redesign and release is to have a more profitable device with less raw materials. I would even go as far to say that the PSP GO price is ther eot subsidize the PS3 price cut.

Actually the box art is what makes me doubt it. Being a graphic designer myself, that box art is really amateur. The PS3 logo is poorly designed too.

Frustrating? What's frustrating is not knowing whether we should buy something today, or wait three weeks just to have an upgrade announced. If this thing is in the pipeline, just level with your consumers so they can make a good choice.

Simply put, if there is no outright "NO", then it most likely is a "Yes".

TGS fits into the rumors it would be announced in August or September. Either available in retailers that weekend or Christmas time. The new bundle sku we saw surface a few weeks ago is probably to tide us over until the slim is released(and possibly even clear out the current stock). Heck, they might not be shipping as many now to get ready to release the slim into the market and have it be the only one on the shelf.
These new slim models will be released at a $50 or $100 price drop, depending on what they are including. If it's basically the same system with a 120 GB I think we'll see a $100 price drop. With a $50 price drop we will would probably see some improvements(maybe a slightly fast processor or more RAM). Heck at $50 you could throw in a decent game(LBP, Killzone 2, inFamous) in leu of a $100 price cut and I'd be happy.

I feel Koller on that. It does suck when folks in-house leak stuff to the public, in the face of signing agreements that say they won't do that lol. Oh well. I think the slim PS3 is probably legit as well.

Herein lies the question: every gaming console Sony has ever produced has met at some point with a size reduction, wouldn't it be logical to assume that the PS3 would also meet with a similar fate?
I personally think that the reason this leak is "frustrating" is because this represents a cheaper console, much like the PSOne (slimmed down PlayStation), PS2 slim and whatever they called the skinny PSP and news of a leak will deter sales of the current, more expensive PS3's available.

Agreed, the box art defies Koller's words!
