These changes became all the more apparent when we re-watched the original 2007 trailer for the title, featuring emo Sam Fisher in all his polygonal glory. What you see above is the closest approximation we could make of running both trailers concurrently, highlighting the incredible metamorphosis it has undergone in the past two years.

I hate emo's as much as the next guy but I still fail to see how having a beard and looking like a shaggy hobo makes Sam look like an emo in the '07 trailer.

You need to narrow your world view a bit more. Being sad/depressed, despite whether or not it's justified, immediately makes you emo by today's nomenclature.

It's the way his black, unkept hair is parted. Draping across his expressionless face as he eludes his pursuers. Sam wasn't out for revenge in 2007, he was on his way to a MCR concert and security was givin him the biness.

I think that his emo beard actually made sense. His daughter was murdered, he was betrayed by the Third Echelon, and it made him look like a different person. If he's trying to get back at the people who killed his daughter, not being immediately identifiable as Sam Fisher seems like a good idea

they should keep his emo beard in the beginning, and make him be a drunken hobo until he snaps and shaves it off and goes to kick some ass, like when jack bauer did it in the beginning of (i think) season 5

No, 24 is the worst place to get good plot points from. He keeps the beard until the end of the game when he fights the giant octopus and it rips it off of his face.

Wow! almost unrecognisable as the same game.
I remember being blown away by the 07 trailer at the time, as I'm sure so many of us were.
It really hasn't aged well. Even more so, when played side by side with it's modern-day counterpart.

I think that they should use some stuff from '07. I think they should have Sam dressed up as a hobo for one mission. It would be interesting.

I could have went with either game really. The first one would have been a nice change of pace for me but this version will do just fine too. Hell anything with good stealth espionage (sp? spell check didn't pick it up) action will do for me.

why do people act like pre ordering will get the game earlier?
its just like asking "can i just blow away my money earlier and then get the same final product at the same time as those who spend it later"
unless there are perks, i almost always just go buy the game at launch date, and get it at the same time as those that pre order. sure it doesnt always work for games that sell out in preorders, but that's not true for most.
my 2 cents.
if you disagree, please enlighten me on why preorder

i hope they keep the environmental interaction like throwing a chair or stuff that was such a big focus when they unveiled it the first time

I thought they ditched that stuff because it was too close to what Assassin's Creed was trying to achieve.
Actually I think it was the Joystiq podcast that mentioned that Ubisoft was concerned at how similar Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed were and decided to go back to the drawing board.

It seems they did. I mean, in the new trailer when you are interrogating that guy at the beginning (voiceover guy says you are in complete control), Fisher uses the guy to break a toilet, a mirror, and a door. It seemed like you could just use whatever was nearby to kick the shit out of people with. Then at the end of the trailer, Sam fluidly dispatched a baddie by throwing him out of the window.
:-) It was so badass.
The game.

I Imagine that the hobo bits will still be in the game. I imagine the game will start as a guy who doesn't care what he looks like any more and has checked out, and then he will get a mysterious message or and old friend will contact him and will say
'I have a lead on the man who killed your daughter' and then he decides to tidy himself up get himself a gun and some vengeance.

This is a small thing, but I really dig the projected objectives. It's almost overused by JJ Abrams, but it makes a ton of sense in a game, at least to me. More environmental integration of game elements lends to a cleaner interface, and I like that. Also, it gives me the feeling like Sam's seeing things, which makes sense in his mental state during this game. I'm way more excited about this than I was then, since the former just came off like a dirtier, but standard Tom Clancy game. I like.

Two questions that I have are what are they gonna do about multiplayer and what's next? I really hope they keep the mp from double agent. It was very easy to get into (I.e you didn't have to take a test ala chaos theory), and people actually stuck to their objectives and not turn every match into a deathmatch. ubisoft shangai isn't good in the single player department but they make up for it in the mp, I just hope montreal doesn't scrap the double agent mp.
If they were to work on the net code a little bit and fix some bugs, the mp would be perfect.
After conviction, what is ubisoft going to do with the splinter franchise? And more importantly, what are they gonna do with Sam? in my opinion they will either make the next game when same was younger or follow the missions of another splinter cell.
