Not gonna buy. As with the fan film, I hope there's going to be a fan-made MP3.

I don't mind the new look at all. Who cares? It's pretty much in character.

What I do fail to see, however, is the connection to Brazil. It's daylight. There are no fancy lobby shoot-outs or heavy rain brooding over a dark city. No subways or derelict five story buildings. No elevators acting like mobster clown-cars.

It's not that I really care how dense old Max's follicles are. It's not that I care for being old and filthy and miserable, because that's where Max has been heading all along. But a Max Payne game that's not noir, not trippy urban dark fantasy with a touch of angst? Good or not as it may be, that's not Max Payne. It'd be like declaring a prequel for Halo that's set in Victorian England and has no sci-fi elements what so ever. I really wish this wasn't the direction they went in, because no matter how good it turns up to be, I'll always resent it for not sharing the same soul as 1 and 2.

Of course, Brazil could be a small portion of the game and then I will eat my own hat.

I think its fair to say that if they decide on this image, the game will be a laughing stock and *no one will buy it*. It'd be like playing a photo-realistic fat italian plumber with hair and fashion issues. It's just not cute.

I am going to swear and rant, so I apologize in advance, though I feel it is necessary.

What the fuck, Rockstar? You don't need to make this game more appealing to the general audience and impulsive buyers. You had one of the greatest franchises in gaming history, at least for me, and you threw everything the fans loved away.
I don't know anything about the story, but this just looks like a 50 Cent game with a white lead character and without all the arcade elements.

I loved the incredible atmosphere, the dark, brooding buildings, the sad story, the rainy nights, the black coat, pretty much everything about the first two games. Why make it so drastically different? Why go for daytime levels? Why go for a bald head? The beard is okay, but... bald just isn't the Max Payne I know, and actually want to see.

I just can't say how much this dissapoints me. This was going to be a preorder for me, but I think I will pass, unless something really awesome completely changes everything about the game. This doesn't look like my kind of game at all.

It could have been awesome, but even if this is just one level, it still breaks with the Max Payne universe too much for me. Of course, it's their game, but it could have been my most anticipated game of this year. Yes, more than any of the games shown at E3.

Pay attention to the fans next time, Rockstar. Or, you know, just cancel this and start again...

I still hope I will be surprised by this, but I doubt it. My stomach honestly turned reading this. I am sad to see the series go this way.

I'm sorry, you are right. It just really bothers me to see a great franchise turned into this. I should wait before saying anything about this, but from what is shown so far, it looks nothing like Max Payne. I think evolutionary steps are a good thing, unless it goes against the things that made the first games so great. I mean, bullet-time is in nearly every game these days.

Like I said, I hope I, and everyone else, will be positively surprised. I doubt it though. We'll see this winter, but I doubt I will buy this, and I was not expecting this as I loved the first two games.

People need to realize that times have changed since the release of Max Payne, so it only makes sense for the franchise to adapt. No franchise should be static. I mean hell, there are plenty of times playing MP2 where I do wish that there is a cover system.

Besides it's ridiculous to say that because it has a cover system and it's in the daytime(who the fuck says that noir stories could only take place at night?), then it's not Max Payne. What made me love Max Payne is the dark, depressing story and the characters, and Rockstar has a penchant for putting out great games with great plots and memorable characters. Does it guarantee success? No, but I'm highly optimistic that Rockstar will get the job done.

Also guess what people? When people grow up, they don't always great. Especially someone who's been through so much like Max Payne.

Thought the game looks pretty, I agree with most here. If the game is to shed its "film noir" look and have mass amounts of daytime encounters...then you just removed what made Max Payne such a great IP.

As for the cover system. I say "sure put it in" but just don't lean on it to heavily. The fun part of Max Payne was opening a door to find a legion of baddies in which you dispatch of using bullet time and frantic dodging :D.

Geez! I guess you're right guys!
How could there be noir elements in a BRAZIL setting?? I don't think they even have a night time down there!
Maybe it's just a bunch of monkeys and jungles (all in day time of course - and in Sao Paulo, a big city that has no jungle whatsoever)!

/sarcasm

Ok, I really wanted to see Max Payne obliterating people in NYC in full 1080p with sick next gen graphics...not in Brazil..His look is a little too much to swallow at first glance. Theirs a cover system now? I dunno, I thought the simple ducking mechanic worked fine. Im looking forward to this game no matter what. I just wish it took place in NYC in the darkness of a snowy night in full HD glory...
