A 'majority' of back catalog PSP games available to download Oct. 1, all first party titles thereafter
Sony has confirmed that "just about" every PSP game releasing after October 1 -- the release date of the PSPgo -- would be available for download. PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein stated on Sunday (via Destructoid) that he couldn't speak about the availability of third party titles at that time.
We followed up with Rubenstein today and he told us, "The majority of back catalog PSP games will be made available for download around the launch of the PSPgo." We made sure to ask if he was speaking strictly about first-party titles and he told us he meant "the majority overall."
So, as of October 1: A "majority" of past PSP titles will be available for download.
After October 1: All first party titles will release as downloads on the PlayStation Network.

Why would an owner of a PSP not be excited about being able to download older games?
I guess when it's available for the 360 you can be excited you fucking Microsoft Anal Gland. Oh, hmm that's doesn't ryhme.

Sony Ponies originated from the following post. SaltyGary is the one who created it.

I thought it was agreed in the last thread that Sony Ponies was a funny and acceptable name. I'm trying to start the PSlim3 nickname catching on, not because I think it's a bad machine (I love my PS3 as much as my 360), but because I think it's hilarious.
It's also a lot easier to say in conversation, if you're fluent in leet.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 10th 2009 4:43PM
Ponies? well is still better than Lemmings,Cow ,Sheep etc etc.
(Any GS memeber here with us today?)

Nice attempt to troll and start a dumb fight.
People shouldn't be calling stupid names just because they like something. I can differ from them, but not calling them invented names.
placebo33 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:05PM
How much will they cost?
EGOvoruhk @ Jun 10th 2009 3:52PM
More than a used UMD version. They will also come with no case, or instructions
Mychas @ Jun 13th 2009 10:37AM
What are you talking about, the older games will have PS1 classic style manuals(pictures of the manual) and all new and first party games will probably have a digital version of the manual.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jun 10th 2009 4:04PM
too damn much...
LaughingMan @ Jun 10th 2009 4:54PM
I can confirm that Patapon 2 and all PSN PSone games have digital versions of the manuals that you can pull up any time.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 10th 2009 5:38PM
yea they handle the manuals well. it's great cause i can pull it up anytime and not have to go searching for it should i ever need it. manuals rarely have anything useful in them anyway honestly.
dogmaticatheist @ Jun 10th 2009 2:07PM
Maybe this has already been covered, but I haven't seen anything about it. Are the PSP 3000 and PSP Go going to coexist, or will the PSP 3000 eventually be phased out?
InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 10th 2009 2:10PM
yeah they are going to co-exist
joeybeast @ Jun 10th 2009 2:10PM
The fficial word is co-existence.
But we all know the truth.
jpw21683 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:13PM
They will co-exist, just like the Game Boy Advance & DS did...
Snowblind @ Jun 10th 2009 3:01PM
More like the GBA SP and the GBA Micro.
I don't see the Go sticking around for very long, even if it gets a serious price slash, I don't think there's too many people out there who are ready to switch over to 100% digital. People who already own a PSP may as well keep their physical library, and as someone who's looking into getting a PSP soon, I'm far more attracted to the 3000.
CJLopez @ Jun 10th 2009 4:17PM
Actually, it would be more like the DSPhat and the DS Lite.
Cant say much by the part of the DSi adn Lite, cuz there might be at one point DSi exclusive games (given the i has more horsepower than the Lite)
skyzbig @ Jun 10th 2009 2:08PM
Man , I really want a PSPgo, but the pricing on this thing is completely out of control at the moment.
ejamer @ Jun 10th 2009 3:28PM
Me too! I'd love a PSP Go, but my price limit for a portable system is in the $150-170 range. Maybe in a year or two -- although given Sony's aversion to price cuts that's probably not realistic either.
Sidebuster @ Jun 10th 2009 2:08PM
I bought a PSP when it first came out and got butt fucked by Gamestop having to buy like 6 games for it. I think I might buy it if I can get some metal gear games on the Go. I have to look into it a little more if it is gonna cost me $250.
Having said that, the UMDs become completely useless with this device right?
Duke @ Jun 10th 2009 2:18PM
Yeah UMD's won't work in it. What I wonder is i there will be some kind of pricing for people who bought a UMD game and then one of these. It seems that those folks would have to buy the game in DL form again, and that's just wrong.
By the way, I like ponies too Latin!
Neil @ Jun 10th 2009 3:00PM
That was one of the most brutally honest, yet jarring posts I have ever read. I literally started to crack up at my desk.
B3astofthe3ast @ Jun 10th 2009 6:09PM
@ Duke
Sony will be offering a UMD trade in program.
Fun DMC @ Jun 10th 2009 2:10PM
There you Go.
Henry @ Jun 10th 2009 8:42PM
...holy shit. Was that an attempt at a pun?
I want to cry...I don't even...
Professor Lario @ Jun 10th 2009 2:11PM
Is it just me or does the plastic on the far right and left hand sides on the top, below the speakers, look bumpy or slightly warped? Maybe it's just the lighting...
Ethan @ Jun 10th 2009 2:19PM
It something I think you get with injection-moulded plastics, just a factor of the way it sets. Mind you, I think Sony probably has something more advanced than my tech class did.
required @ Jun 10th 2009 2:47PM
I don't think that image is of the actual product, it was part of the initial set which I'm guessing used mockups. The latest imagery we have seen since does not look this way.
joeybeast @ Jun 10th 2009 2:12PM
Why the hell would you get this if 3rd party games may not be supported?
ryan_villa @ Jun 10th 2009 2:13PM
Cant wait for this its so much better without the UMDs my FIFA keeps freezing all the time ;(
Dreadhead541 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:16PM
You do know that ALL psp's can download games off the store, right? You don't need a pspGO to do it.
Jeff @ Jun 10th 2009 3:52PM
All PSPs may download games but not all PSP games may be downloaded, yet. I played LEGO Batman from the official UMD and from a memory stick on a modded PSP and really appreciated how quickly stages were loading on the latter. This might be the main argument to upgrade my console, once prices get more reasonable.
copa @ Jun 10th 2009 2:13PM
I don't understand what Sony's strategy is here.
As a pure gaming platform, the DS/DSi is significantly cheaper, and remains significantly more popular. PSP has some quality titles coming, but DS will remain the dominant platform in this space.
As a multimedia device, PSP GO is not equipped to take on iPhone/iPod Touch. And frankly, it has a very difficult battle even for second-tier status in a crowded field that includes Palm Pre and the new Zune.
For people who already enthusiasts of the PSP, I can see this being appealing when the price comes down. But where exactly does Sony believe they are going to get a bunch of new users from?
Vidikron @ Jun 10th 2009 3:15PM
At that price i have no idea. The design is nice and it has a good chunk of internal storage, but they should release it at or around the price of the current UMD models. Then it becomes a much more attractive balance between gaming and media.
rells009 @ Jun 10th 2009 3:28PM
Honestly, if you really want "full-bodied" portable games, you're either going with a DS or PSP, period.
They're not aiming for the iPhone, Pre or Zune crowd. They have other devices to combat those. I mean sure it'd be great to get those groups to migrate to the PSP platform, but that's not who they're targeting. The PSP (go or otherwise) is still primarily a portable gaming device with mutlimedia capabilities. The iPod Touch is primarily a multimedia device with gaming capabilities.
Methinks the go is an experiment for the PSP2, one with improved specs, a touchscreen and maybe finally a second analog stick.
ejamer @ Jun 10th 2009 3:28PM
Although I agree with your sentiment, I'm pretty sure that Sony has a large group of "loyal customers" (aka fanboys) who will pay a premium to get the latest Sony-branded gadget early on. They probably plan on getting the most profit per unit early on by selling to those early adopters, and then dropping the price when sales fall below expectations.
Pachter's comments about the pricing for PSP Go being a total rip-off didn't sound that far fetched to me. Then again, maybe it's just giving the current supply chain a chance to sell through instead of leaving all that old PSP hardware on shelves.
DangerMouse @ Jun 10th 2009 3:30PM
The exclusion of the touch screen is beyond stupid. That's what separates this generation handhelds from the last generation with regards to them being used as multimedia devices. Browsing the internet with a touch screen is made much easier with one, and having access on the go these days is a must. Now the user has to fiddle with a d-pad, while all the other competitors don't? At $250, why the fuck isn't there one?

Because it's a redesigned PSP, not a new-gen handheld.
