Seems like somewhat inconsequential news for us to report on, right? "Magazine subscribers get cool bonus item?" Who cares? Well, we care, you probably care, and anyone who has ever picked up a video game controller should care about the poster in question -- drawn by gaming obsessed artist Gary Lucken and packaged with the latest edition of Edge magazine, this pixelliustrated work of art contains references to every video game ever made.
Seriously, we were going to try to list the video games referenced in the poster (visible in somewhat higher res here), but really, it would probably be easier to list the games that aren't. Let's see ... Klax, and ... well, just Klax, we guess. Sorry, Klax!

There's a little bobble-headed Master Chief down and to the right of the Brain Age hot air ballon

Don't have a high-res version, but I did overlay a grid so it would be easier to share game characters and references we find:

A few I've seen pointed out in the other comments already:
Sub-Zero: M3-M4
Master Chief: S9-T9
Lara Croft: A8

The giant crab is a Patapon reference - which in of itself may be a giant enemy crab in-joke by the way...

There are tons of early PC games that are not represented...is it only done for console games?

Not to sound unappreciative but with all the generic people moving around on the street why didn't he add even more games by making them all game characters?

Unless you have an ever higher-rez version that shows some of those sprites being from Earthbound... well, I found a game besides Klax not represented.

It's a shame Edge magazine hates playing games which is evident by their consistently bad reviews.

I never thought Edge was too harsh. Then again, I haven't kept an eye on them lately.
Eurogamer, on the other hand, is moar like Eurohater amirite?

That's not true man, have you actually ever read the mag? Game scores are ridiculous nowadays, it has come to the point where a that scores beneath an 8 is actually considered to be mediocre. Edge uses the full 1-10 scale which I think is great. Do you just look at the score? They don't give a hyped game a bad score just to be counterculture, they give very well-thought personal arguments why they think the game isn't that great.
Pick it up sometime, the in-depth interviews with developers are a great read.

Finito, did you mean to say that edge are full of crap and their whole review process stinks and screams of elitism ? You would have hit the nail on the head if you said that..
Eurogamer are crap as well.
was that a 7 for infamous, why yes I do believe it was, a 7 for kz2 oh yes indeed.. a 10 for halo3.. wow and a 9 for gears of war2 and lets not forget f.e.a.r 2 gets an 8 (I dont think I have heard any one mention F.E.A.R 2, a week after it was released, thats how memorable a game it was)
If you want to be original and give a review based on content you wouldn't need to attach a grade, hence why Joystiq always gets a massive thumbs up..
If you want to generate hype over what turns out to be really lack lustre reviews written by some pretentious unnamed wankers that like to show how greatly versed they are in the English language and at the same time who completely manage to forget the whole point of the review is to point out the strengths and weaknesses of a game for would be purchasers then Edge should be right up your alley and you should definately get a subscription..

It seems to be an expansion of an illustration from issue 202 (the previous one, with Blur on the cover), as many of the elements, such as the Brain Training hot air balloon, are reused from that.

I wonder how big this poster is or how big the original was? A lot of the characters that are depicted are super tiny. You can barely make a lot of them out. Like Master Chief and Bomberman. And the further you go up the poster, the smaller things get.

The poster is approx 83x59 cm and is great, just need to find a place to put it so my girlfriend doesn't complain too much! :P
Personal favourites are the little Wave racers in the bottom left corner especially the one doing the little jump, really cool looking little dude.
